Thanks to a comic book spin-off, the greatest possible sequel to Krampus is just waiting to be adapted into a feature film. Nearly a decade after the 2015 horror film was released, fans still look back on the original, wondering why nothing more came from the incredibly creative holiday film.

The 2015 film by Michael Dougherty focused on a small family whose Christmas spirit was long gone, causing them to be visited by Santa Claus' malevolent companion, Krampus. The movie was a hit among fans everywhere, but despite acclaim from fans and critics, as well as a decent box office showing, the film stands alone. However, there's another tale in the Krampus universe, and it would make for the perfect sequel.

Krampus: Shadow of Saint Nicholas is an anthology graphic novel that was released a week before Krampus hit theaters.

Warning! Spoilers ahead Krampus!Fans can finally put this issue to bed, because Krampus' tie-in comic gives an official answer to the film's open ending. The 2015 horror/comedy has become a holiday staple for many, but the final shot of the movie has spurred debates among many. Thankfully, the lesser-known 'sidequel' gives fans all the answers they want.

In Krampus: Shadow of Saint Nicholas by Todd Casey, Michael Doughtery, Zach Shields, Laura Shields, Christian Diabari, Maan House, Stuart Sayger, and Michael Montenat, three individuals are visited by Santa's sinister companion, who puts them all through trials that help them find the Christmas spirit.

Thankfully, just like Max and his family in the film, each of these individuals learn the lesson they need to. As they celebrate the holiday with a renewed sense of life and purpose, they all find the same gift, a bell left by the Krampus to remind them he's still watching.

It's true that plenty of sci-fi movies are more plot-heavy than character-driven, but that doesn't mean that the best additions to the genre don't include complex and well-developed characters. However, in most movies, not just speculative fiction, there are sometimes scenes that fit in well with the plot but end up undermining the arc of an otherwise well-written character. Though this doesn't take away the other moments that exemplify the character's nuanced and complex emotions and motivation, it does give the viewer pause and make them wonder why these scenes are included.

Occasionally, these characters' moments give great sci-fi movies disappointing endings since what happens to the characters is typically the most emotionally compelling piece of a story. Many of these characters are portrayed by brilliant actors who balance the contradictions within their roles and make them work within the narrative. On the new Trick ‘r Treat 4K Ultra HD edition — out today from Arrow Video — writer-director Michael Dougherty provides an update on the long-gestating sequel, first announced all the way back in 2013.

In a new commentary moderated by Dead Meat’s James A. Janisse and Chelsea Rebecca, Doughtery confirms that he wrote Trick ‘r Treat 2 with his Krampus collaborators Todd Casey and Zach Shields and it’s already storyboarded, but getting it made within the studio system is complicated.

“It’s tricky, because I think we really did capture lightning in a bottle with this one, and it nearly killed me. The subgenre of "Christmas movies" has been a curious one of late. While new movies set during the holiday season or others explicitly concerning it are released every year (especially holiday horror), it feels like we haven't gotten a new classic, gotta-watch-this-every-year holiday movie in a while. That's because, in all honesty, most classics aren't made, they're grown; it takes a few years for most films to prove their durability, and some that are overlooked upon their initial release get rediscovered and slowly morph into seasonal staples.

Filmmaker Michael Dougherty is intimately familiar with this process, as it's happened to him at least twice with two movies about two different holidays. His anthology of Halloween hijinks, 2007's "Trick 'r Treat," barely got a theatrical release before word of mouth allowed it to gain a cult reputation strong enough that a sequel has been rumored for years, and may actually happen.

Fans have been waiting 14 years for director Michael Dougherty to get around to making a sequel to his Halloween-themed horror anthology Trick ‘r Treat, but Dougherty has stayed busy as the years have gone by, making the Christmas-themed horror film Krampus, directing Godzilla: King of the Monsters, and contributing to the scripts for X-Men: Apocalypse, Godzilla vs. Kong, and the upcoming Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. Earlier today, Warner Bros. finally released the first Trailer for Godzilla vs. Kong, their epic monster mash-up. Of course, the film is as well known for being part of WB’s plan to release their entire 2021 slate on HBO Max as well as in theaters, where available. That, and streaming services like Netflix attempting to pay a king’s ransom to buy it off of them. Well, it’s staying at WB and will out at the end of March. Then, we’ll see Godzilla and King Kong face off once again. This Trailer, which you’ll see below, really does set the stage for something quite fun. Count me in. While promoting the summer film Godzilla: King of the Monsters, actor Thomas Middleditch played the part of reporter for Interview magazine to ask questions of the film's screenwriter Zach Shields. Godzilla: King of the Monsters didn’t exactly make a Kaiju-sized splash at the box office, but for many fans, it was still great to see the atomic breathing lizard back on the big screen. Director Michael Dougherty counts himself amongst those fans and tried to fill the sequel with as many hidden Easter eggs for franchise buffs as possible, from lore-inspired characters and weapons, to hidden roles for some of the geekiest celebrities in Hollywood. There is such a clear disdain for the human element in Godzilla: King of the Monsters, one wonders if there wasn’t a way to make this sequel with monsters alone. Co-written (with Zach Shields) and directed by Michael Dougherty, this film picks up five years after the wreckage of the first. The loss of life was devastating for many, the Russell family included. After the death of their son, Mark (Kyle Chandler) fell into a bottle and ran away while Emma (Vera Farmiga) fell into her work for Monarch, the agency devoted to discovering and protecting/destroying these mammoth creatures, which they call titans. While Mark and Emma’s daughter (Millie Bobbie Brown) tries to keep the relative peace between her parents, Emma perfects a device that allows humans to communicate and pseudo-control these beasts.

Since Mark was one of the initial creators of this device, he’s forced back into the fold.

Let’s get ready to rumble! Everybody’s favourite giant green monster is back for the third instalment of Warner Bros’ and Legendary Entertainment’s ongoing MonsterVerse series, following Godzilla and Kong: Skull Island, with Godzilla vs Kong due out next year. As such, Godzilla: King of the Monsters has its fair share of flaws, but it delivers what you want from a Godzilla movie, namely spectacular monster battle sequences and city-levelling on an epic scale.

Picking up roughly where Gareth Edwards’ 2014 Godzilla left off, the new film centres on crypto-zoological agency Monarch, who have been secretly keeping giant monsters – known as titans – in super-sized containment facilities around the globe.

Damn straight you want to go to the movies, shove popcorn in your face and watch giant creatures from a digital lagoon kick each other’s ass. The title alone means most of us are in the tank for Godzilla: King of the Monsters. Besides the jolly green giant lizard, we get Mothra, Rodan, the three-headed Ghidorah, a.k.a. Monster Zero and the barest hint of King Kong (we have to wait till next March to see Kong and Godzilla go head to head as part of Legendry studio...

“Aladdin” exceeded box office expectations with a $112 million Memorial Day weekend, but its lasting power in theaters will be challenged as the next two weekends will be loaded with new releases that will cater to family and musical-loving audiences that served as the Disney remake’s core demographic.

But the film projected to take No. 1 this weekend has more stomping and smashing than singing.
