U.K.-French film company Alief has boarded supernatural drama “Horizonte” by Colombia’s César Augusto Acevedo, winner of the 2015 Cannes Camera d’ Or for his debut feature “Land and Shade” (“La tierra y la sombra”). “Horizonte” is Acevedo’s sophomore feature, which had its world premiere at the 49th Toronto Film Festival in early September.

“We have been fans of Cesar Augusto since his first film, ‘Land and Shade,’” said Alief’s Miguel Angel Govea who described “Horizonte” as a “solid story of regret and redemption.”

It’s pretty impressive that Bruno Heller and Danny Cannon, who twisted Gotham into a funhouse mirror image of the comic book source material, got invited to do it a second time with their Epix series Pennyworth, purportedly the origins of Alfred. But which Alfred? And for which version of Batman?

Pennyworth: The Complete Second Season, with Covid-19 interruptions, finally arrived at the end of 2020 and is now available on a two-disc Blu-ray set from Warner Archive. You can decide for yourself if the series needed its connections to the Batman mythos, needed to exist at all or is entertaining. As with Gotham, the chaotic and uneven storytelling continues here in this weird, alternate reality of the world.

While it looks like the 1960s, the politics of England is decided more fascistic, and lots of secret organizations are having a secret war with the kingdom’s fate at stake.

Exclusive: After two seasons on Epix, DC origin series series Pennyworth is plotting a move to HBO Max for a potential third season.

I hear negotiations between Epix and Pennyworth producer Warner Bros. TV are still ongoing, and they involve hammering out a deal for the existing two seasons of the show, which premiered on Epix, to also be available on HBO Max. If an agreement is reached, and there is a Season 3 pickup, I hear Epix would get a second window, I hear. Reps for Epix, Wbtv and HBO Max declined comment.

The development is not surprising. Pennyworth was sold to MGM-owned Epix months before Wbtv parent WarnerMedia announced plans to launch its own streaming service, which became HBO Max. Season 2 of Pennyworth is supposed to plant the biggest seed yet, when it comes to the origin of he who will one day become Batman. But from the looks of this exclusive sneak peek, almost-lovebirds Thomas Wayne and Martha Kane have at least one major obstacle to first overcome.

Pennyworth Season 2 is coming soon to Epix, continuing to fulfill the show’s touted remit as a prequel to the Batman mythos, notably with Alfred’s eventual arrival in Gotham City.

Having debuted on July 28, 2019, Pennyworth is the product of creator/executive producer/writer Bruno Heller and executive producer/director Danny Cannon (CSI franchise), and served as a quick reunion of key personnel from another Batman prequel series, Fox’s Gotham, which had just ended its five-season run that April. However, any associations end there, since Pennyworth is set in London in the 1960s, therefore—after doing some quick math—eliminating the notion of any continuity connection with the contemporary-set Gotham. Indeed, Pennyworth turned out to be a colorful crime series with swinging ‘60s aesthetics and a slightly over-the-top charm that’s not bound by its nevertheless-looming pre-Batman status.

DC FanDome: Explore the Multiverse welcomed the producers and cast of the DC drama series Pennyworth and they just dropped some huge news for the upcoming season two: Martha Kane is pregnant!

The panel featured cast members Jack Bannon, Ben Aldridge, Paloma Faith, Emma Paetz, and executive producers Bruno Heller and Danny Cannon as they looked back fondly at the first season and talked about what to expect for the sophomore season. During the panel, Heller dropped the huge news that Martha (Paetz) is pregnant — with the future Bruce Wayne aka Batman, we are assuming. “Pennyworth” is putting a Bat in the oven.

Epix’s Batman prequel has revealed that in its second season, Martha Kane will be pregnant with Thomas Wayne’s child. Any DC Comics fan will immediately know just who that child grows up to become.

The announcement was made Saturday during the second part of DC FanDome.

As previously revealed, Lucius Fox will be appearing in the second season. Fox most memorably portrayed by Morgan Freeman in Christopher Nolan’s “Dark Knight” Trilogy (he was also played by Chris Chalk in Fox’s “Gotham”). Also joining the show for season two will be James Purefoy, Edward Hogg, Jessye Romeo, Ramon Tikaram and Harriet Slater.

Tony Hale has been cast in the upcoming Hulu original series “The Mysterious Benedict Society.” Based on the best-selling novel of the same name, “The Mysterious Benedict Society” tells the story of four gifted orphans who are recruited to go on a secret mission. Hale has been cast in a dual role, playing the children’s eccentric benefactor, Mr. Benedict, and his villainous twin brother, Mr. Curtain. The show comes from Sonar Entertainment and Twentieth Century Fox Television. Darren Swimmer and Todd Slavkin serve as showrunners.

Production has begun on Season 2 of Epix’s “Pennyworth” series, and the origin story for Batman’s butler Alfred has added five new series regulars to its cast.

The new cast members are James Purefoy, Edward Hogg, Jessye Romeo, and Harriet Slater (“Faunutland” and the Lost Magic”). Ramon Tikaram returns from season one in a more regular role.

The 10-episode season has been shooting since January at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in the U.K., where it shot Season 1. Season 2 is expected to premiere this summer.

English actor James Purefoy, whose many TV credits include Rome, The Following and Hap and Leonard, has joined the Season 2 cast in the role of Captain Gulliver Troy, Alfie’s former Sas Captain. Director Abner Pastoll’s icy Irish thriller opens brilliantly with a blood smudged woman showering while an ominous score throbs in the backdrop, implying something petrifying is about to happen. The music explodes into a terrifying crescendo as the scene flits into a low gliding aerial view of a suburban neighbourhood, recalling the eerie intro to Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining.

We then dart back in time to meet protagonist Sarah (Sarah Bolger): a twenty-something, single mother, battling grief following the recent death of her husband. Sarah’s life is then hurled into further turmoil after local ruffian Tito (Andrew Simpson) breaks into her home to hide a stash of cocaine he stole from local gangsters.

Barnaby Southcombe’s contrived film fails to humanise the illicit relationships between two students and their teachers

Even without looking at the credits, it’s easy to surmise that this was originally a stage play, given the small ensemble cast, limited use of locations, knowing use of repetition and gotcha plot twist. Lo and behold, this film is indeed based on the play of the same name, written 11 years ago by Fiona Evans. It started on the Edinburgh fringe before transferring to the Royal Court. While the writer-director Barnaby Southcombe has changed the original two-act structure, the core idea of the story hasn’t aged well in the intervening years. Being translated to film has in some ways made the inherent problems, like the prurience of the premise, worse not better.

It has taken a while for Adult Life Skills to make its way to theaters. After debuting back in 2016 at the Tribeca Film Festival, it’s approaching the three year mark as the movie now hits cinemas. Often, a delay like that can be a sign of trouble. Luckily, that’s in no way the case here. This comedy/dramedy is a quirky character study/coming of age tale with a winning performance at its core.
