On one hand, you could say Joss Whedon had about as auspicious a Marvel Studios debut as possible when he wrote and directed "The Avengers." The blockbuster superhero team-up was really the first of its kind, bringing together disparate elements of a shared timeline and cementing the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the juggernaut blockbuster franchise we know it as today. It also made $1.5 billion, which helps. On the other hand, you could also argue that Whedon's foray into the MCU started in about as inauspicious a way as possible.
That's because Whedon's first MCU project cost an old friend millions. The director came to "The Avengers" after Zak Penn had already written a script. But Whedon decided to disregard the existing screenplay almost entirely, rewriting it from scratch and, in the process, establishing his comedic sensibility — previously on full display...

The MCU has a rich history that began with the release of Iron Man in 2008, and it continues to expand with many new characters joining the franchise.
However, despite its massive success, there are certain individuals who have been blacklisted by the head of Marvel Studios, ruling out their return to the franchise, regardless of the success of their past projects.
Kevin Feige has been quite transparent about his preferences for collaboration, and unfortunately, two individuals have ended up in the category of those he prefers not to work with. In the book MCU: The Reign of Marvel Studios, authors Joanna Robinson, Dave Gonzalez, and Gavin Edwards investigate the behind-the-scenes issues at Marvel Studios that led to Feige banning Joss Whedon and Edward Norton from future MCU projects.
If the Inhumans could be rehabilitated, apparently everyone in MCU history was on Feige’s call list. Except Edward Norton, the franchise’s first Bruce Banner,...

At this point, MCU has a long history. Starting with ‘Iron Man’ released in 2008 the cinematic universe keeps expanding and we can look forward to plenty of new faces joining the franchise.
Still, despite its enormous success, we can also definitely rule out some faces possibly forever since the head of Marvel Studios blacklisted them despite the success of their projects.
Feige has been pretty open in the past regarding who he likes to work with and who he doesn’t like to work with, and two names, unfortunately, found themselves in the latter category.
In the book ‘MCU: The Reign of Marvel Studios,’ authors Joanna Robinson, Dave Gonzalez, and Gavin Edwards explore behind-the-scenes problems at Marvel Studios that resulted in Kevin Feige banning two individuals from future MCU projects. Since the Infinity Stones saga ended, Marvel has tried to expand the stories on the television screen. The MCU has flourished on the small screen, as it allows more room and time for character development.
The studio has found critical success, and the quality of the stories was not affected by the change. However, as several series came under the expanded universe of Marvel, Disney is still far from making one of their most beloved shows part of the current MCU timeline—Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Will Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. return with a new series? ( Photo Credit – IMDb )
The Marvel Cinematic Universe’s series experienced initial acclaim with productions such as WandaVision, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and Loki, marking a significant journey into television in recent times. However, subsequent series exhibited a rapid descent into formulaic narratives, eliciting viewer fatigue towards Disney+ offerings. A notable shift emerged with the revelation to revive cherished pre-Disney+ era shows, notably X-Men: The Animated Series and Daredevil. These continuations, as evidenced by X-Men ’97 and Daredevil: Born Again, have reignited audience interest. Consequently, there exists a palpable sense of anticipation among audiences for the potential revival of another cherished Marvel Television program, named Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

During a recent interview with Agents of Fandom, Marvel Studios Head of Television, Brad Winderbaum, teased that Marvel might want to return to the “Agents of S.H. I.E.L.D.” It premiered on A.B.C. in Sep. 2013 and concluded with its seventh and final season in Aug. 2020.) show after they film “Daredevil: Born Again.”
According to C.B.R., Winderbaum told Agents of Fandom, “We’re in production on Daredevil: Born Again in New York. They’re shooting as we speak. I’m seeing text messages come up from the set. “Agents of S.H. I.E.L.D.” is probably the next show that [we’re] going to kind of revisit and revive… a really strong… and one of my favorite pockets of our universe and our fandom. Joss Whedon's decision to create Agents of Shield explains why its connection to the Marvel Cinematic Universe was doomed from the beginning. Marvel Studios never wanted Agents of Shield to happen and preferred Whedon to focus on Avengers 2. The lack of reference to Agents of Shield in the main franchise confirms that it is not part of the Sacred Timeline, but still exists in an alternate reality.

Marvel Studios initially didn't want Agents of Shield to be made, despite positive response, leading to a successful seven-season run. The creation of Agents of Shield sparked debate and influenced the approach to Disney+ shows a decade later. Marvel Studios' lack of experience with television hurt the MCU in the long run, but they plan to create a dedicated television team and learn from Agents of Shield's success.
A decade after the premiere of Agents of Shield, Marvel Studios’ thoughts on the spin-off have finally been revealed. The show is notably the MCU’s first-ever television series, paving the way for future Netflix and Disney+ series. Following The Avengers character Phil Coulson and the life of other agents from the organization Shield, the show successfully garnered acclaim and a following that the recent MCU shows have struggled to replicate.

It always bothers me when Joss Whedon is referred to as being the chief creative force behind "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.," and not just because of everything that's come out about his workplace misconduct and toxic behavior since 2017. While he did, in fact, develop the Marvel Television show with his brother Jed Whedon and sister-in-law Maurissa Tancharoen, it was the latter duo who sculpted the series into one of the best projects to emerge from the House of Ideas since the Marvel Cinematic Universe began its industry-changing run.
Of course, circa 2012, "Joss is Boss" was a tenant among Joss Whedon fans. Having already created the fan-favorite series "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and cult space Western show "Firefly," the multi-hyphenate only fortified his genre credentials that year by helming the McU's hugely popular "The Avengers." That basically gave Whedon carte blanche to do whatever he wanted in the Marvel universe, which included...

Joss Whedon is apparently not a good person. You've heard this, we've heard this, everyone has heard this. Another thing that everyone knows is how deeply ingrained he is not only in popular culture but in successful and beloved popular culture. Whedon's writing credits include "Toy Story," "Firefly," and "Marvel's Avengers." His directing credits include the latter of those two projects, as well as "The Office" and "Glee." See what we're saying? Before Hollywood realized that he was a financial taboo, Whedon was everywhere.
You'll notice, too, that his credits often came in clumps. Whedon tended to serve as both writer and director on his projects. The man valued his creative control, wherever he could find it. So it might be surprising, then, to know that he valued the opposite for his service to "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.," a series for which he is credited as a co-creator and an executive producer.

Emergency call handling is one of the highest-stress jobs that take place in an office environment. Handlers need to keep their head as they extract information from panicked and injured callers, who are often in dangerous situations. There can be highs, like the first call taken by Iain de Caestecker’s lead in BBC One thriller The Control Room – over the phone, Gabe talks a scared couple through the emergency roadside delivery of their child and they name the baby after him, their own angel Gabriel. The lows of the job are intense, particularly for Gabe who one day receives a call that unravels his life.
At the start of The Control Room, Gabe’s isn’t much of a life at all, de Caestecker tells Den of Geek over Zoom. “From the very start, I don’t think his...

The Nevers should be a triumphant TV homecoming for Joss Whedon. It’s the first series in more than a decade solely created by the man responsible for Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, and Firefly. (He co-created Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. back in 2013 with brother Jed Whedon and sister-in-law Maurissa Tancharoen, and wasn’t really involved past the pilot episode.) It is his first dance with premium cable, after spending the earlier phase of his career working for broadcast networks with either low budgets or minimal faith in his ideas.

It appears that Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. was planting much more than a fun Easter egg in Season 4, when it put Anton Ivanov’s severed head inside a jar.
Based on new intel from one of the ABC series’ executive producers, it sounds like the groundwork was indeed being laid, in late Season 4, for the introduction of the highly unusual-looking Marvel villain known as M.O.D.O.K. Fans at the time speculated as much, seeing as Watchdogs leader Ivanov (played by Zach McGowan) had told Aida his Lmd body was “only designed for killing” — and M.O.D.O.K. stands...

To the very end, the Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. producers were good sports about the knocks the show has taken over its seven-season ABC run.

(Warning: The following story contains Major spoilers for the two-part series finale of ABC’s “Agents of Shield” on Wednesday.)
Unless the McU decides to go back into the past again, it’s likely that Wednesday’s series finale of “Agents of Shield” represented the final appearance for Clark Gregg’s Phil Coulson.
Aside from Robert Downey Jr. or Chris Evans, Gregg has probably appeared the most in the McU between his small roles in Marvel’s batch of films, where he primarily existed to serve as the connective tissue between all the various films, and his starring gig on “Marvel’s Agents of Shield,” Marvel’s first crack at extending its universe to the small screen.
It’s been a wild journey for Gregg, who has been brought back from the dead, twice (though the second time it was as a Life Model Decoy), played an evil doppelganger version...

“Never Have I Ever” star Darren Barnet has landed a guest star role on the Season 7 premiere of ABC’s “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” Variety has learned exclusively.
In the show’s final season opener, titled “The New Deal,” Coulson (Clark Gregg) and the agents are thrust back in time to 1931 New York City, where they encounter Barnet’s character. It’s unclear how many episodes Barnet will be featured in the role, although his character could have a lasting impact on the “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” universe.
Fan favorite Patton Oswalt also returns to the series in an unspecified new role; in past seasons, Oswalt has portrayed iterations of the Koenig siblings, a family with close ties to S.H.I.E.L.D.
Barnet is most recently known for his portrayal of teen heartthrob Paxton Hall-Yoshida on Netflix’s comedy series, co-created by Mindy Kaling and Lang Fisher.

We spoke to the Agents of Shield showrunners to get a better idea of what it is we really saw in the surprising season 6 finale.
This interview contains spoilers for Agents of Shield season 6.
The Agents of Shield finale left us with a lot of questions, and while we did our best to explain the ending ourselves, we had to at least make an attempt at getting some answers from showrunners Maurissa Tancharoen, Jed Whedon, and Jeff Bell. They were noticeably tight-lipped with some of our probing inquiries, but we did succeed in getting them to speculate about audience reaction, the impacts on various characters, and the specific context of where things will begin in season 7.
Den Of Geek: How unusual that for this Agents of Shield season 6 post-mortem, you already know what’s going to happen in season 7!

The Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. cast and crew came to San Diego Comic-Con and premiered a new extended trailer. During the Thursday panel in Hall H the cast: Clark Gregg, Ming-Na Wen, Chloe Bennet, Elizabeth Henstridge, Iain De Caestecker, Henry Simmons, Natalia Cordova-Buckley, and Jeff Ward, were also joined by executive producers Maurissa Tancharoen, Jed Whedon, Jeff Bell, and Jeph Loeb.
They reflected on the show's journey by showing video recaps of each season and sharing random stories about production and casting. The whole panel had the specter of the show’s end hanging over it. Thankfully, they get to close out the show with one more season, but it's going to be sad to see Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. end, but also surprising that the show made it as far as it did. It always seemed like the McU kept throwing the show curveballs...

It's been a long and successful run for Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., but the team will blast off for one final mission before wrapping up the series for good in 2020 after its seventh season.
Marvel TV chief Jeph Loeb broke the news to Deadline, confirming that it will allow the writers to “build a season that will tie up any threads that are there. To make sure that we come to a conclusion that’s satisfying to the fans, to the cast, to Marvel, and to ABC.”
While it's bittersweet knowing that the show is ending, it's great to know that there will be a conclusion for long-time fans.
But that also opens up the possibility of some wild twists that could render some of the characters out of commission ... for good.

Exclusive: Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will end after its upcoming seventh season.
“When you know that’s what you’re doing, you can take greater risks, of life and death,” Marvel TV boss Jeph Loeb says of the conclusion of ABC’s Clark Gregg-led superspy series, which is currently in the last weeks of its explosive sixth season. “Those kinds of decisions suddenly now are real on the table because you’re not playing how do we undo this when we get to the next season. You’re playing that this is going to be the end of the story.”
A regular and often circumspect presence at Comic-Con over the past decade, Loeb will be joining Gregg, fellow cast members Ming-Na Wen, Chloe Bennet, Elizabeth Henstridge, Iain De Caestecker, Henry Simmons, Natalia Cordova-Buckley and Jeff Ward in S.H.I.E.L.D.

When Agents of Shield season 6 was still in production it was announced that Anthony Michael Hall would be joining the cast, but nothing was shared about what role he would play. “Your job is to put together a team you trust,” Agent Coulson (Clark Gregg) tells Mack (Henry Simmons), S.H.I.E.L.D.’s new Director, in the first Season 6 trailer for Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. “If you think about everything you’re up against all at once, you’ll crack.” Sage advice — especially from a ghost.
Just after those words are spoken in this first look at the upcoming new episodes, a none-too-subtle graphic takes over the screen: Agent Coulson Is Dead. The ailing team leader last was seen at the end of the Season 5 finale, titled “The End,” retiring to Tahiti to spend his final days.
Also touched on in the new trailer for ABC’s superhero tale is the fate of Fitz (Iain De Caestecker) — who, we are reminded, is “frozen out in deep space somewhere.” But before you can...

We speculate as to how the events of Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame might shape the future of Shield in seasons 6 and 7...
This article comes from Den of Geek UK.
Warning: contains spoilers for Agents of Shield season 5 and Avengers: Infinity War.
At exactly the same time as Thanos was clicking his fingers to erase half of the universe's inhabitants, some meta reflection of this righteous and clinically brutal act was happening in the offices of Disney and Marvel. The Marvel Cinematic Universe and its TV cousins was over-populated, and beginning to atrophy. Only a cull could ensure fresh growth and re-growth across the universe.
While Thanos' cull was - as far as we're aware - wholly arbitrary, Disney was a little more Darwinian in the pursuit of its aims. Only the weakest, the worst, and the least-watched would taste oblivion.
For a tense time near the turn of last summer,...

I’ve got some great news for those of you who are still fans of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. ABC has renewed the Marvel series for a seventh season!
Network executives must like the direction that the series is going in the upcoming Sixth season. It’s been about six month since Season 6 was announced.
Season 7 is a long way off so we can’t really speculate at this point where it might be headed. Hell, we don’t even really know what to expect from Season 6 yet! It’s not supposed to even air until summer of 2019. It will also only consist of 13 episodes. I imagine Season 7 will have the same amount of episodes.
I’m not a huge fan of this show but there are aspects of it that I enjoy and I’m curious to see how the story for these characters end up playing out.

ABC has handed out an early renewal to “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” picking up the series for a seventh season, the network announced on Friday.
The news comes months ahead of the drama’s sixth outing, which was pushed to Summer 2019 earlier this year. At the time, it caused some speculation about the aging show’s future, but the network insisted the move did not reflect a lack of confidence in the show or portend an imminent cancellation.
“By putting it in the summer, we feel like we’re going to be able to super-serve the fanbase that loves that show, and hopefully give it an opportunity to continue on longer than it would if it lived in season,” ABC Entertainment president Channing Dungey told reporters earlier this year when the news was first announced, adding that she believed the most recent season to...

Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog became a huge hit in 2008 from Joss Whedon's Mutant Enemy Productions.
Starring Neil Patrick Harris, Nathan Fillion, and Felicia Day in a three-part romantic comedy musical web series, Whedon claims to have earned more from Dr. Horrible than from writing the first Avengers film. Fans swear by Dr. Horrible, and we think you should too.
The series aired in three parts, creating an iconic miniseries that we know and love today. The show combines the perfect mix of heart, comedy, and star power to create a cult classic that has expanded into a series beyond a cult classic -- it's the true epitome of geek culture.
The series follows the eponymous evil villain, Dr. Horrible, through his quest to join the Evil League of Evil and win the heart of his crush, Penny.
However, he is consistently thwarted by the handsome, buff superhero Captain Hammer,...
