A lonely spinster living on Staten Island, having inherited the house she once shared with her dearly departed mother, Doris has taken to hoarding household objects in an attempt to mediate her loneliness and longing. She has a friend, Roz (Tyne Daly), but spends most of her time inputting data at a fashion company that doesn’t appreciate her and speaking to a therapist at the insistence of her brother’s family who want Doris to sell the house and split the inheritance.

Sally Field plays Doris Miller, a 60-something accountant with a Walter Mitty-like imagination who becomes fixated on a younger new co-worker John Fremont (Max Greenfield), in Hello, My Name Is Doris. The comedy from director/co-writer Michael Showalter (“The Baxter”) has plenty of indie film quirkiness but what makes the film work is Field’s performance as Doris, a character who in lesser hands could have gone so very wrong.

Doris is a data entry worker in accounting working at a hipster fashion magazine who is suddenly smitten when she meets a handsome young new co-worker named John Fremont, a nice Midwestern who is new to the city. The two appear in a sneak peek at Monday's episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show to promote their new movie Hello, My Name is Doris – and have a steamy makeout session on the couch.

The smooch happens after the costars team up for a game of "Heads Up" with host Ellen DeGeneres. Greenfield, 36, and Field, 69, portray dog walking, a security pat-down and a proposal before drawing a more intimate challenge: making out.

The two instantly grab each other and launch into a (very touchy) makeout session. Naturally, the studio erupts in applause.

"Do you guys know Doris? She's kinda weird." The trailer has debuted for a quirky, cute, charming indie drama called Hello, My Name Is Doris starring Sally Field. After a quiet few years in her career, Field has roared back recently playing Aunt May in The Amazing Spider-Man, not to mention Mary Todd Lincoln in Lincoln. She's back in a leading role again here, as Doris, an older woman pining for the young new guy at her work - played by Max Greenfield, from "New Girl". One of the break-out hits of this year’s South by Southwest Festival was the latest film by Michael Showalter and his first in a decade, Hello, My Name is Doris. Picking up the audience award there, it stars Sally Field as an eccentric Brooklynite who finally finds friendship and more. In his SXSW review from March, Scott Weinberg (Nerdist.com) writes, “… it’s Sally Field’s show from stem to stern. In Michael Showalter's new film Hello, My Name is Doris, which bowed Saturday night at SXSW, Max Greenfield plays John Fremont, a charming artistic director and the love interest of Doris, an accountant at the same company played by Sally Field.
