It is often said that there is a distinct dearth of good roles for women over a certain age, and if that is indeed the case then it seems Sally Field must have won the jackpot when she signed on to play Doris. A lonely spinster living on Staten Island, having inherited the house she once shared with her dearly departed mother, Doris has taken to hoarding household objects in an attempt to mediate her loneliness and longing. She has a friend, Roz (Tyne Daly), but spends most of her time inputting data at a fashion company that doesn’t appreciate her and speaking to a therapist at the insistence of her brother’s family who want Doris to sell the house and split the inheritance.
That is, until John Fremont (Max Greenfield) steps into the elevator one morning and compliments her glasses. This small and seemingly...

Sally Field plays Doris Miller, a 60-something accountant with a Walter Mitty-like imagination who becomes fixated on a younger new co-worker John Fremont (Max Greenfield), in Hello, My Name Is Doris. The comedy from director/co-writer Michael Showalter (“The Baxter”) has plenty of indie film quirkiness but what makes the film work is Field’s performance as Doris, a character who in lesser hands could have gone so very wrong.
Doris is a data entry worker in accounting working at a hipster fashion magazine who is suddenly smitten when she meets a handsome young new co-worker named John Fremont, a nice Midwestern who is new to the city. But Doris is no sexy cougar; she is an oddball character that would have been out of his league even if she were 20 years younger.

Fresh off their playful make out session on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Sally Field and Max Greenfield are at it again. In an exclusive clip from their new comedy-drama, Hello, My Name is Doris, Field finds herself in very close quarters with Greenfield, who sheds his shirt in a hilarious office scene. The funny and poignant film, directed by Wet Hot American Summer's Michael Showalter, tells the story of Doris Miller, an extreme late bloomer, who pursues her younger, hipster co-worker, John Fremont. In the clip, things heat up between Doris and John when she spills coffee on his shirt,...

Things are getting hot and heavy for Sally Field and Max Greenfield.
The two appear in a sneak peek at Monday's episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show to promote their new movie Hello, My Name is Doris – and have a steamy makeout session on the couch.
The smooch happens after the costars team up for a game of "Heads Up" with host Ellen DeGeneres. Greenfield, 36, and Field, 69, portray dog walking, a security pat-down and a proposal before drawing a more intimate challenge: making out.
The two instantly grab each other and launch into a (very touchy) makeout session. Naturally, the studio erupts in applause.

After a lifetime of being overlooked and ignored, a woman of a certain age finds her world turned upside down by a handsome new co-worker and a self-help seminar that inspires her to take a chance on love in Hello, My Name Is Doris, a witty and compassionate late-life coming-of-age-story.
When Doris Miller (Sally Field) meets John Fremont (Max Greenfield), her company’s hip new art director, sparks fly-at least for Doris. Her first encounter with true romance (outside of the pages of a novel) convinces Doris that she and the mostly unaware John are meant for each other. In the cluttered house she shared with her late mother, Doris mines the Internet for information on her one-and-only, guided by the 13-year-old granddaughter of her best pal Roz (Tyne Daly).
When Doris begins showing up at John’s regular haunts, she wins over his Williamsburg friends with her eclectic vintage wardrobe,...

"Do you guys know Doris? She's kinda weird." The trailer has debuted for a quirky, cute, charming indie drama called Hello, My Name Is Doris starring Sally Field. After a quiet few years in her career, Field has roared back recently playing Aunt May in The Amazing Spider-Man, not to mention Mary Todd Lincoln in Lincoln. She's back in a leading role again here, as Doris, an older woman pining for the young new guy at her work - played by Max Greenfield, from "New Girl". The entire cast includes Natasha Lyonne, Kumail Nanjiani, Peter Gallagher, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Tyne Daly and Beth Behrs. This is adapted from a short film by Laura Terruso and looks occasionally funny, but not really my kind of character study. Take a look. The official trailer for Michael Showalter's Hello, My Name Is Doris from Yahoo (via The Film Stage): When Doris Miller...

One of the break-out hits of this year’s South by Southwest Festival was the latest film by Michael Showalter and his first in a decade, Hello, My Name is Doris. Picking up the audience award there, it stars Sally Field as an eccentric Brooklynite who finally finds friendship and more. Also starring Max Greenfield, Natasha Lyonne, Kumail Nanjiani, Peter Gallagher, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Tyne Daly and Beth Behrs, the first trailer has now landed ahead of a spring release.
We said in our review, “The second feature directed by Showalter, adapted from a short film by Laura Terruso, the director marries themes previously explored in his 2005 feature The Baxter with a more nuanced character study. Masterfully portrayed by Field, Doris Miller is out of place despite harboring tenancies and wardrobes that the 20/30-something hipsters of Williamsburg around her aspire to have. Simply put, she fits in more easily than the...

In his SXSW review from March, Scott Weinberg (Nerdist.com) writes, “… it’s Sally Field’s show from stem to stern. Not only does Ms. Field seem to bring out the best in her wide array of co-stars, but clearly she’s still got the skills required to steal an entire movie through sheer force of good humor, good timing, and plain old natural sweetness.”

In Michael Showalter's new film Hello, My Name is Doris, which bowed Saturday night at SXSW, Max Greenfield plays John Fremont, a charming artistic director and the love interest of Doris, an accountant at the same company played by Sally Field. What ensues is a semi-awkward and endearing pursuit between an older woman and a younger man. Vulture sat down with Greenfield in the historic Driskill Hotel in Austin before the premiere and discussed everything from making out with an acting legend, getting "unhealthily addicted" to CrossFit, and how there’s a little bit of Schmidt in everything he does. How do you feel about making out with Sally Field? It was great. She might be the best kisser. It really felt right for the film and the characters and not gratuitous, so when we would [make out] it was rewarding. It felt like a release, and there is that element...
