Their mutual friend was Tina Romero, a filmmaker and daughter of late zombie maestro George A. Romero, the revered Night of the Living Dead director.

The younger Romero wrote West a note, recalling how before her father’s death in 2017, she received his blessing on her own project, a movie called Queens of the Dead. Paramount+ revealed the eight queens that will be returning to the runway for Season 9 on Tuesday. They are: Angeria Paris VanMichaels, Gottmik, Jorgeous, Nina West, Plastique Tiara, Roxxy Andrews, Shannel, and Vanessa Vanjie.

Season 9 begins on May 17 with two episodes. For the first time ever, the queens won’t be competing for their own cash prize. Instead, they’ll be competing for charity.

Each of the eight queens has chosen an organization to which they will donate their $200,000, should they snatch the crown this season. The donations are provided by a private foundation called The Palette Fund.

The 74th Annual Ace Eddie Awards, held on March 3, 2024, named The Holdovers as the Best Edited Feature Film winner, and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse took home the Best Edited Animated Feature Film prize.

Presented by American Cinema Editors, this year’s Ace Eddie Awards was held at UCLA’s Royce Hall and hosted by Nina West. In addition to announcing winners in the competitive categories, the 2024 Ace Eddie Awards presented John Waters with the Ace Golden Eddie Award. Kate Amend and Walter Murch were recognized with Career Achievement Awards, and Stephen Lovejoy was honored with the Ace Heritage Award.

Oppenheimer and The Holdovers continued their awards season success this evening by taking home the top industry prizes for editing at the Golden Eddie awards. Ace member Jennifer Lame and the organisation's president, Kevin Tent, will be celebrating at an after party with DJ Lance Rock.

The Los Angeles ceremony was hosted by Drag Race star Nina West, who kicked it off with a spectacular performance of a new song. It also saw John Waters receive the Ace Golden Eddie Filmmaker of the Year Award for distinguished achievement in the art and business of film, with his past collaborators Mink Stole and Ricki Lake there to applaud him.
