Sanzigen Studios’ upcoming sci-fi fantasy anime series “Guilty Gear Strive: Dual Rulers”, directed by Shigeru Morikawa, based on a video game created by Daisuke Ishiwatari in 1998, stars Issei Miyazaki as ‘Sin Kiske’, Jouji Nakata as ‘Sol Badguy’, Yui Ishikawa as ‘Unika’ and Tomokazu Sugita as the narrator, releasing in 2025:
“…after the decline of the once robust fields of science and technology, a new energy source known as ‘magic’…
“…fuels the modern era. Humanity creates forbidden biological weapons: ‘Gears’.
“Those Gears eventually stand against humanity in a rebellion. Although they manage to overcome in the struggle for survival known as the ‘Crusades’, humanity’s losses are so great that even after several decades pass, their emotional wounds remain unable to fully heal.
“‘Sin Kiske’, the child of a human and a Gear, heads to the wedding ceremony of his father ‘Ky’ and mother ‘Dizzy’.
“Their wedding breaks the ultimate taboo:...

Despite the utter glut of fighting games out there right now, the sad fact is that things are winding down for most of them. Games like Street Fighter V, Mortal Kombat 11, Tekken 7, and Dragon Ball FighterZ are reaching the end of their post-launch content roadmaps, which means we need some new blood out there soon.
Luckily, Arc System Works has been teasing its next big Guilty Gear game for a while now, and now we know when we’ll be able to play Guilty Gear Strive. The game will be available on April 9 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Steam. The Ultimate Edition and Deluxe Edition will be available digitally on April 6. The news was announced in this trailer:
Last weekend, Arc System Works held an event called Arcrevo in Japan, which included online tournaments based on some of their kickass fighting games like Under Night In-Birth and BlazBlue: Centralfiction. There was...

Sol Badguy and his convoluted plot about cyber mutants will return in a new Guilty Gear game and it's going to be a feast for the eyes.
Arc System Works had a pretty eventful run at this year’s Evolution Championship Series. Dragon Ball FighterZ had another big tournament and revealed upcoming characters Janemba and Gogeta. The cult hit Under Night In-Birth Exe: Late[st] got a rather large spotlight and led to the announcement of another weirdly-named revision, Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late [cl-r]. BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle got to be on the big Sunday stage and led to the announcement of even more Dlc characters, including an under-animated tank with a skull on it.
Anime fighters are weird, man.
Even with all this going on, there was still an empty void in the Evo roster. There was no Guilty Gear game with an appropriately questionable sequel title. We...

It won’t comes as a surprise given how many of them I review, but I am a Huge fan of fighting games – in particular the 2D fighters of old – having played just about Every 2D fighting game ever released on any system, from side-scrolling days of the Nes, to the classic Snes/Streetfighter 2 era, to more modern takes on the genre such as Guilty Gear Xx (PS2) and Blazblue (Xbox 360) and current-gen games like Dragonball FighterZ, Blade Strangers and Nitroplus Blasterz. Seriously, if it’s a fighting game I’ve played it. Though of all the franchises I’ve played over the years Guilty Gear and its spiritual successor BlazBlue have always been a solid favourite.
Which is why I was so excited for the 20th anniversary release of Guilty Gear.
It’s also why I paid out the money for the super-expensive limited edition version of the game,...

toco toco is a YouTube-based program where Japanese artists and creators introduce places in Japan that inspire them. Every episode showcases a different guest, from all creative fields. With no scripts or guidance, the shows guests speak naturally and are free to choose any place they like. With a new episode released each 1st and 15th of the month, with subtitles in English & French, toco toco looks like The place to go to get a real insight into Japanese artists and creators…
Fyi: The title of the show, toco toco is described as the onomatopoeia to describe the sound of footsteps in Japanese, for the “walks we go on together with our guests,” according to the series creators.
Having already interviewed the likes of video game creators SUDA51 and Daisuke Ishiwatari (definitely check both of those out too), the two latest episodes feature two gore masters of Japanese cinema – and...

PQube have announced that they will be publishing Arc System Works’ Guilty Gear Xrd -Revelator- for EU territories on June 10, 2016 for PS4 and PS3. So that should make up for the abomination that was the UK release of Guilty Gear Xrd -Sign- (I bought the Us release Just to get a physical copy).
Guilty Gear Xrd -Revelator- is the latest entry in the long running 2D fighting series and features amazing 3D visuals, gorgeous animation, fast and intense battles, excellent netplay and a fully animated story mode (something Street Fighter V doesn’t have, yet)… After the discovery of magic, humankind began using it to create weapons, ultimately birthing the biological weapons called Gear. The GEARs eventually rebelled against their masters. Thus began the Crusades, a 100-year war to determine the fate of the mankind. In the distant future, humans stand victorious in a world ravaged by war, but the...

A new Guilty Gear game will appear on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Arc System Works business development director Tomo Ohno said that the series will be returning to current generation consoles. Though I’ve seen the Anime Expo advertisements on buses in years past, 2009 is the first year I’ve ever attended. While aspects made it sound like a good time to be had, the prospect of wading through a sea of smelly, poorly costumed cosplayers (some of whom were sure to be men as characters of the opposite gender) wasn’t especially appealing to me. It all seemed some barbaric gathering of people with low artistic standards and strange rituals.
Enter a friend of mine who shall be nameless for the moment. After his bringing up the upcoming Anime Expo, I got a tad nervous at the idea of actually going for once. Yet, my spirit of adventure and curiosity about the art of anime (my interest had laid dormant since the day I decided to stop liking Pokemon) wrung from me a final verdict of “Why not?” Moe enthusiasts and yaoi fangirls aside,...
