Mirtha Vega is a Cuban-American indie writer/director/producer.
Honors include: Selected Producer at Cannes' Producers' Network, Selected Talent under the Berlinale Talents program as a Director at the Berlinale (Berlin International Film Festival), Personally invited by Gabriel Garcia Marquez (Nobel Peace Prize winner) as one of only 10 filmmakers from around the world to and attended his "How to Tell a Story" workshop at the Film School in San Antonio de los Baños, Cuba, Selected Producer by NALIP (The National Association of Latino Independent Producers) to attend their Producer's Conference, Placed in the top 10% in the Nicholl Screenwriting competition, Won Best Original Screenplay at the Rhode Island International Film Festival.
Filmography: Tryst (2003) This first feature is a claustrophobic thriller set in a boutique hotel room and shot in San Francisco, CA. Won Best Thriller award at New York International Film Festival. It was brought in two days early and under budget. Sold by Insomnia World Sales to Singapore, the Middle East, and Russia.
The Human Solution (2021) Based on historical facts - and shot in the UK - the second feature, The Human Solution is a harrowing drama that deals with the topic of eugenics and is set in 1938 and 1953 Sweden. This film is a ReFrame Stamp recipient for 2021 for gender parity in film. It premiered on Laemmle Virtual Cinema in January 2021. No film festival circuit, as this happened during lockdown. It went on to stream on Amazon Prime.
She has several other dramatic features in various stages of development, including: The Rebuilding, a dystopian thriller set in 2050 Final Witness, a cold case/legal drama with an award-winning script set in Marin County, CA, Jesiah, a claustrophobic thriller, and Saint a horror/supernatural story.
