Marc Smit runs and owns film distribution company Cinéart from Amsterdam, having been a strategy consultant and fund partner prior. In 2024, MUBI took a majority stake in Cinéart.
Since 2020, Marc has started to invest in film development, equity and exec production - via the CCM joint venture (based in London, with Curzon and Madman as fellow shareholders) but also directly as Cinéart. With about 15 projects in development so far, the slate boasts high levels of conversion to films getting shot. Great films in the making including Ed Berger's Ballad of a small player (with Colin Farrel), Etzler's Bad Apples (with Saoirse Ronan), Jimpa by Sophie Hyde (with Olivia Colman and John Lithgow), Rise by Sandra Winther (produced by Darren Aronofsky's Protozoa).
