Lights, Camera, Take Action! aired live on Ktla (Channel 5 in Los Angeles) on Sunday, December 8, with presenting sponsors City National Bank and UCLA Health leading the charge on the philanthropic endeavor. Yvette Nicole Brown and Tom Bergeron returned as hosts and served as two of the producers for this uplifting, entertaining evening of stories, songs, and celebrities. Ktla’s Dayna Devon returned to host the live Celebrity Lounge, and Tiffany Smith hosted the Tote Board throughout the evening.

The Motion Picture Television Fund telethon Lights, Camera, Take Action! returns for its third edition Sunday, airing live in Los Angeles on Ktla-Channel 5 from 7-9 p.m. Pt.

Yvette Nicole Brown and Tom Bergeron return to co-host the event, overseeing an evening of stories, songs and celebrity appearances to help raise funds for Hollywood crew workers in need. Also returning this year are producers Phil Rosenthal (Somebody Feed Phil) and writer-critic-producer David Wild.

The MPTF telethon’s first year raised more than $850,000 and scored an L.A. Area Emmy nomination. Last year, the show raised $750,000 at a time when workers were impacted by the summer-long WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes.

Organizers have set a $750,000 goal for tonight’s event, which will feature Ktla’s Dayna Devon as host of the live Celebrity Lounge, and Tiffany Smith hosting the tote board.

MPTF’s first telethon received an LA Area Emmy nomination and raised over $850K to provide for the entertainment industry’s most vulnerable community members, and last year’s telethon raised over $750K to meet the needs of tens of thousands of industry workers impacted by the two strikes in 2023. A goal of $750K has been set for this year’s two-hour broadcast.

James Franco’s casting as Fidel Castro in “Alina of Cuba” has been met with swift backlash on social media.

As confirmed Thursday by TheWrap, the actor will portray the Cuban revolutionary in the upcoming indie film about his daughter Alina Fernandez.

Actor John Leguizamo, a vocal advocate for greater Latino representation in Hollywood, led the charge on Instagram.

“How is this still going on?” he wrote in a Friday post. “How is Hollywood excluding us but stealing our narratives as well? No more appropriation Hollywood and streamers! Boycott! This F’d up!”

Adding that it would be “seriously difficult” to represent Castro “without aggrandizement,” the “Encanto” star said: “I don’t got a prob with Franco but he ain’t Latino!”

On Friday, TV festival SeriesFest announced its official selections for this year’s international pilot competition.

The fourth annual event, held in Denver, Colo. from June 22 to 27, will welcome 56 pilots from nine countries across the categories of “Independent Pilot,” “Digital Short Series” and “Late Night.” This year’s work features stars like Dan Harmon, Adrian Grenier, Blythe Danner, Laura Linney and James Lafferty.

“It’s amazing to see how this competition has grown,” said Randi Kleiner, founder and CEO of SeriesFest said in a statement. “I’m so thrilled with the quality of work and the diversity of voices. This competition is truly the heart and soul of why we do what do.”
