The gates of Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria are creaking open once again, and this time, survival might not be on the menu. Blumhouse Productions has debuted the first teaser trailer for Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, the hotly anticipated sequel to 2023’s runaway horror hit, and early glimpses suggest the franchise is doubling down on its unique brand of animatronic mayhem.

Set to open exclusively in cinemas on December 5, the sequel marks the return of director Emma Tammi, who co-wrote the script with franchise creator Scott Cawthon and Seth Cuddeback. ‘Five Nights at Freddy’s 2’ Teaser: Josh Hutcherson and Matthew Lillard Are Back with Demonic Freddy Fazbear in Blumhouse Horror Film
Image
The viral sequel for “Five Nights at Freddy’s” could be titled….10 nights at Freddy’s? But alas, it’s “Five Nights at Freddy’s 2,” with the original cast of Josh Hutcherson, Elizabeth Lail, Piper Rubio, and Matthew Lillard all returning for more mayhem at the paws of Freddy Fazbear.

Hutcherson is back as Mike, the security guard who was trapped in a literal dead-end job at a Chuck E. Cheese-esque arcade and restaurant with five haunted animatronics, including Freddy Fazbear, Bonnie the Rabbit, Foxy the Pirate, Chica the Chicken, and Carl the Cupcake. After he’s forced to bring his 10-year-old sister Abby (Rubio) along for the night shift, Mike has to survive the evening with the help of cop Vanessa (Lail).

“Five Nights at Freddy’s” was a box-office hit in 2023, grossing $297.2 million on a $20 million budget. It was released simultaneously in theaters and on streaming service Peacock. This time however,...

Jason Blum Reveals ‘Five Nights at Freddy’s 2’ Trailer in Full Costume
Image
Blumhouse head Jason Blum got into costume, as he is known to do, to debut the first trailer for Five Nights at Freddy’s.

At CinemaCon on Wednesday, the producer was dressed head-to-toe in a get-up resembling one worn by the murderous animatronic figures in the franchise that adapts the popular video game series.

“The first Five Nights at Freddy’s was Blumhouse’s biggest hit,” Blum boasted from the stage. He acknowledged that exhibitors weren’t thrilled that the first movie was released day-and-date on Peacock but assured the crowd that the new film would launch exclusively in theaters.

The trailer teases more mysteries involving the pizzeria where Josh Hutcherson’s character worked. “They’re out there, Mike,” Elizabeth Lail says in the footage. After Hutcherson asks what that means, she clarifies, “Everywhere.”

Piper Rubio and Matthew Lillard so-star in director Emma Tammi’s sequel to the 2023 original film. Five Nights at Freddy’s 2...

‘Five Nights At Freddy’s 2’ First Look: The Animatronic Creatures Have Broken Out Of The Pizza Parlor – CinemaCon
Image
The bear from Five Nights At Freddy‘s wobbled onstage in full plastic regalia. But surprise! It was horror cinema architect Jason Blum at Universal’s CinemaCon presentation Wednesday in Las Vegas.

“I love to save money,” said the producer known for thrifty genre budgets. “And on the first movie, I was in the suit the entire time.”

He then showed off the crowd how he loves to play dress-up with photos of him dressed as the Wicked Witch from Wizard of Oz (“The Wicked people backstage didn’t like it”), his get-up as M3GAN, and a family photo where they all dressed up as a night at the movies.

Blum announced to great cheers from theater owners in the crowd that the sequel is coming out exclusively in theaters, not day-and-date with Peacock.

Matthew Lillard Says Five Nights At Freddy's 2 Will Be A More 'Fan-Centric' Film
Image
Although Five Nights at Freddy's received a lukewarm reception from critics, the movie was a hit with viewers. Still, Matthew Lillard promises a more "fan-centric" experience when the sequel hits theaters in 2025.

"To have a franchise like that is very exciting," Lillard, who will reprise his role as William Afton in Five Nights at Freddy's 2, told Entertainment Tonight. "'I always come back' is my last line of the movie, so I'm coming back, that's good, "Here's the great news I think the fans fell in love with what we did, I think [creator Scott Cawthon] is the shepherd of this incredible project and I think collectively the filmmakers listened to some of the criticism that they got, and they're growing. I think this film is going to be tonally a little different. I think we're going to have a lot more. I think it's going to be an action-packed film.

‘Five Nights At Freddy’s 2’ Poster Unveiled As Blumhouse Shows Wares At Nycc
Image
Jason Blum couldn’t reveal details today about Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 but he brought New York Comic Con attendees the poster for the sequel to last year’s highest grossing horror movie.

The first movie opened during the actors strike, day-and-date on Peacock and defied all hurdles during last fall’s marketplace. The movie based on the hit videogame was an anomaly performing equally well in theaters and on Peacock since it was a hot fan frenzied franchise. Five Night’s Freddy‘s was Peacock‘s most-watched film or series ever in its first five days, besting previous record-holders Halloween Ends, The Super Mario Bros. Movie, Bel-Air and The Best Man: The Final Chapters.

Blum gave props to the pic’s screenwriter Scott Cawthon for having the foresight that it would be a hit. The movie won over fans in its faithful-to-the-videogame production design, down...

‘Five Nights at Freddy’s 2’ Announced by Universal
Image
Turn on the security cameras, because Freddy Fazbear is on the loose again. “Five Nights at Freddy’s,” one of 2023’s most unexpected box-office sensation, is getting a sequel from Universal Pictures and Blumhouse.

Jim Orr, Universal Pictures President of Domestic Theatrical Distribution, announced the news on Wednesday, during the company’s CinemaCon presentation in Las Vegas. No other news about the film — such as a release window, creative team, or cast — was unveiled.

The announcement comes six months after “Five Nights at Freddy’s” became a hit at the October box office, where it grossed $297.2 million on a mere $20 million budget. A sequel film was probably greenlit by Act 3 of the first one.

The success of the film, an adaptation of the viral indie horror video game franchise by Scott Cawthon, was especially impressive given Universal’s decision to release it simultaneously in theaters and on the streaming service Peacock. The...

Stars: Josh Hutcherson, Piper Rubio, Elizabeth Lail, Matthew Lillard, Mary Stuart Masterson, Kat Conner Sterling, David Lind, Christian Stokes, Joseph Poliquin | Written by Scott Cawthon, Seth Cuddeback, Emma Tammi | Directed by Emma Tammi

It’s an established fact that popular video games rarely make good movies, and so it proves with Five Nights at Freddy’s. Produced by Blumhouse and co-written by game creator Scott Cawthorn, the film should have been a fun little scarefest packed with creepy suspense moments, but instead it’s a drab disappointment thanks to a dismal and messy script that fails to capitalise on the game’s core appeal.

Josh Hutcherson stars as Mike Schmidt, who accepts a job as a security guard after a meeting with his careers counsellor (Matthew Lillard), in part because he needs financial security in order to stop his interfering aunt (Mary Stuart Masterson) from taking custody of his young sister...

But Blumhouse’s luck turned around three weeks later. That’s when their video game adaptation Five Nights at Freddy’s (read our review Here) reached theatres – and that movie has officially become their highest-grossing production!

Cool Stuff: Five Nights At Freddy's Brings The Animatronic Terror To 4K Blu-Ray In December

While several big-budget movies have experienced quite a bit of trouble at the box office both this year and since the pandemic first started in general, one genre continues to stay afloat consistently: horror. And when such movies are geared toward younger audiences and inspired by source material with a rabid fanbase to begin with? Well, that's when you know you probably have a hit on your hands.

That's exactly what happened with "Five Nights at Freddy's," the movie based on the cult video game franchise that promptly smashed box office records the weekend of its release.
