1972 Abitur. Studied medicine, ethnology and psychology, 1981 diploma in psychology at the Philipps University in Marburg, certified psychologist and licensed psychotherapist, 1987 doctorate at the Faculty of Natural Sciences of the Albertus Magnus University in Cologne.
Lecturer at the Albertus Magnus University in Cologne with numerous publications, including on the subject of "Migration/Integration and psycho-social consequences", 1981 to 1997 family counseling at the City of Cologne, project development and implementation on the subject of "community-based psychology", since 1992 deputy head of department, implementation of the new administrative structures in the psycho-social area of the City of Cologne, 1997 to October 2002 head of the State Center for Immigration NRW in Solingen.
Member of ver-di and the AWO, founding member of the association "Kindernöte e. V." (Intercultural Association for the Promotion of the Integration of Children in Cologne-Chorweiler) as well as of the Association for the Promotion of the Town Twinning Cologne - Istanbul, numerous activities on the topic of migration and integration policy.
Member of the SPD since 1982, member of the executive committee of the SPD sub-district of Cologne since March 2001.
