The sharks in a supermarket flick Bait 3D (review) was met with a fine reception from most fans for a good reason - it was a lot of bloody fun! That being said sequel talk has begun chumming the waters.
Twitch reports that Arclight Films has announced a sequel to the Australian shark-in-a-supermarket thriller Bait, directed by Kimble Rendall, and starring Xavier Samuel, Julian McMahon, Sharni Vinson, Phoebe Tonkin, Martin Sacks, Alice Parkinson, Alexander Russell, Qi Yuwu, Adrian Pang, Lincoln Lewis and Damien Garvey.
The original intense 3D thriller tells the story of a group of survivors in a sleepy beach town who suddenly find themselves trapped inside a submerged supermarket following a freak tsunami. As they try to escape to safety, they soon discover that there is a predator among them more deadly than the threat of drowning—vicious great white sharks lurking in the water, hungry for fresh meat.

A film centred around sharks attacking people in a flooded supermarket isn.t often compared to the work of Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright and actor Sam Shepard. But leave aside the unique challenges of shooting in water for nine weeks with actors (including children) standing on shelves, and a mix of animatronic and computer-generated sharks . all captured in 3D . and that.s exactly what you.re left with according to director Kimble Rendall.
.Once we were working with the actors it was a bit like doing a Sam Shepard play on the stage because it really was like a theatre. There were eight actors out on the set and they don.t really leave,. although he laughingly adds .some of them leave . not by choice..
It is still a shark movie after all.

Director: Kimble Rendall. Writers: Shayne Armstrong, Duncan Kennedy, John Kim, Shane Krause, Justin Monjo, and Russell Mulcahy. Cast: Phoebe Tonkin, Xavier Samuel, Julian McMahon, Sharni Vinson, Cariba Heine, Alex Russell, Lincoln Lewis, and Alice Parkinson. Tagline: "Cleanup on aisle 7." Bait 3D joins a long list of killer shark movies. From Jaws (1975) to Deep Blue Sea (1999) and more recently to Open Water 2: Adrift (2006), there have been many reasons to be afraid of the water. With this latest Australian entry into the genre, fans of thrillers can relax because computer enhanced sharks and false looking tsunamis will create very little fear. Really, Bait simply flounders as the shallow characters and weak storyline massage you into apathy. Speaking of storylines, Bait focuses on the plot devices rather than the characters. There are rogue tidal waves, bank robberies, roaming sharks and the threat of electrocution. But, none of these elements create for an.

To peek our continued interest in Kimble Rendall's Australian shark flick thriller 'Bait' those thoughtful promotions people have decided to swarm my computer screen with gorgeous wet ladies that include homemade Aussie hotties Sharni Vinson ('Blue Crush 2') and Phoebe Tonkin ('The Secret Circle'). Thank you so very much. Theatrically speaking 'Bait 3D' is screening throughout this month via Tugg but if you're willing to wait just a little longer to sink your teeth into the new shark-based thriller then it'll be heading to 3D Blu-ray, Blu-ray, DVD and Digital Download Combo Pack from 18 September courtesy of Anchor Bay. Anchor Bay Films are set to unleash Kimble Rendall's Australian shark flick 'Bait' into homes this coming September. Coming your way in all sorts of forms such as DVD, Blu-ray, DVD and Blu-ray Combo pack and of course on Blu-ray 3D the thriller with bite sadly has a notably lacklustre list of bonus features which don't appear to stretch much further than a gallery of storyboards. Hopefully more is planned for the release when it hits all of these modern day digitial discs on 18 September across the Us. No word just yet on a UK release but I would envisage this going straight to DVD as well probably around October time. Check out the new Blu-ray artwork below, which is actually identical to the recent one-sheet we posted. Ryan Kwanten might be most famous for his role as Soo-keh Stackhouse's beefcake brother in "True Blood," but his movie career is taking off faster than Eric Northman can whip off his ridiculous track pants. Jason Stackhouse is definitely not suitable for children, and Kwanten's next project probably won't be either.
Kwanten will play a "freewheeling guy in the prime of his life" who finds out his biological clock is ticking quite quickly. In fact, he only has a month before he starts shooting blanks, so it's time to get busy! But the movie is called "Not Suitable For Children," so you can't say they didn't warn you.
This Aussie comedy costars Alice Parkinson ("Sanctum," "X-Men Origins: Wolverine") Ryan Corr, and Bojana Novakovic ("Devil," "Edge of Darkness") as cohorts and possible baby-havers as Kwanten's character races to spread his seed.

This is the Pure Movies review of Sanctum, produced by James Sanctum, directed by Alister Grierson, and starring Alice Parkinson, Dan Wyllie, Ioan Gruffudd, Rhys Wakefield and Richard Roxburgh. Written by Suki Ferguson for Pure Movies. Mr Cameron has a penchant for setting dramas deep underwater - he did it in The Abyss, he did it in Titantic, and here he does it in Sanctum. Unlike most exec producer top-billings, Cameron seems to have had his hand firmly on the tiller for this particular project - he mentored the director, Aussie newcomer Alister Grierson, and pressed his own Fusion 3D camera technology upon him. Still, the main reason we know that Sanctum is Cameron's work is the nursery-level simplicity of the story. In Titantic, we had the forbidden rich girl-poor boy love affair; in Avatar, the eco-warriors versus corporate monsters. Here we have an unsubtle take on troubled father-son relationships.

Sanctum 3D
Stars: Richard Roxburgh, Ioan Gruffudd, Dan Wylie, Rhys Wakefield, Alice Parkinson | Written by John Garvin, Andrew Wright | Directed by Alister Grierson
Frank McGuire (Roxburgh) is a successful and respected cave diver, exploring one of the last unexplored cave systems in the world, Esa-Ala. Accompanied by his billionaire sponsor Carl Hurley (Gruffudd) and his son Josh (Wakefield) amongst others, his expedition takes a terrifying turn when a cyclone traps the explorers in the cave. With colleagues topside already assuming the party is dead, the only way they can escape is to explore the caves further and hope to find a route to the sea.
Sanctum is based on screenwriter Andrew Wright’s real life experiences and while this is marketed as a James Cameron produced picture (Cameron has worked on documentaries previously with both John Garvin and Andrew Wright), the only obvious Cameron trademark on this is the 3D.

The Bait Trailer and Bait Poster has premiered. Kimble Rendall‘s Bait (2011) movie trailer, poster stars Sharni Vinson, Julian McMahon, Alice Parkinson, Xavier Samuel, and Phoebe Tonkin. Bait (2011)’s plot synopsis: “In a sleepy beach community shoppers at an underground supermarket are terrorized by a crazed bandit when the unimaginable occurs: A monstrous freak tsunami swallows the town. Now trapped, with rushing water threatening to entomb them in a watery grave the survivors discover they are not alone. The tsunami has brought unwanted visitors from the depths. Not only must they overcome the threat of drowning and the predator within their midst, but a threat far more deadly and far more bloodthirsty – hungry great white sharks.”
This film looks so much better than Shark Night 3D in my opinion (notice that movie trailer has not been posted on this site) but there has not been a good shark film on screen since Jaws.

Chicago – If “Avatar” stood as a reminder of James Cameron’s undying popularity with audiences, “Sanctum” stands as proof that Cameron’s name alone can’t always sell a picture. Though the filmmaker merely served as executive producer of this murky thriller, the screen overflows with his signature tropes: underwater landscapes, 3D photography, hokey characters and pedestrian dialogue.
It nearly comes as a shock to discover that “Sanctum” was in fact not written and directed by the technologically ambitious, proudly commercial auteur. This sophomore directorial effort from Alister Grierson (“Kokoda”) is the sort of trash entertainment that undiscerning FEARnet subscribers may appreciate. The film prides itself on being devoid of the usual knee-jerk scares in cave-bound pictures, though it’s no less formulaic or artificial than any run-of-the-mill studio product.
Blu-Ray Rating: 2.5/5.0

James Cameron has a thing for water. And almost-impossible-to-film storylines…this time, he’s done it again: he’s the producer of Sanctum, a new movie about a cave-diving team having to face their worst fears when they get stuck inside the least accessible cave in the world.
I had the chance to speak to the lovely Alice Parkinson, who stars in the film in the role of strong and tomboyish Victoria. Alice gave me an interesting insight on gruelling training, learning to dive and filming underwater.
—————-
HeyUGuys: Sanctum is a high tension movie and your role is very physical and demanding. What did you think when you first read the script – where you a bit nervous, or just excited?
Alice Parkinson: Excited, most definitely. With that kind of story, I knew it was going to be hard work and gruelling – and it was. But I was excited.

Executive produced by James Cameron, Sanctum is a surprising thrilling film about survival, and features some incredible action sequences. Although Cameron.s name is front and center in big bold letters on the cover, the film was directed by Alister Grierson with a screenplay by John Garvin and Andrew Wight (who also wrote the story). It stars a cast of mostly unknown actors including Richard Roxburgh, Ioan Gruffudd (probably the most recognizable thanks to the Fantastic Four films), Rhys Wakefield, Alice Parkinson, Dan Wyllie, and Christopher Baker. The film follows a group of explorers as they attempt to map out one of the world.s largest cave systems in New Guinea before a tropical storm forces them to leave. The...

More shark attacks occur on the eastern coast of Australia than practically anywhere else in the world. Now, they're stalking the local Coles & Woolworths.
Forget that "Shark Night 3D" rubbish, filmmaker Russell Mulcahy ("Highlander," "Resident Evil: Extinction") has gone one better with "Bait 3D" which centers on, wait for it, sharks in a supermarket. It's "The Mist" meets "Deep Blue Sea".

It seems to be shark week with all of the shark movie trailers swimming around the internet. Earlier we shared David R. Ellis' Shark Night 3D trailer. The film stars Jesse Spencer, Xavier Samuel, Julian McMahon, Sharni Vinson (below), Cariba Heine and Alice Parkinson.

I needed a few minutes to regain my composure after watching the sales trailer for Kimble Rendall's Bait 3D, yes, that other 3-D shark movie. The footage is absolutely hilarious as nearly every single aspect looks staged - it's like watching a stunt show at Universal Studios or something (kind of reminds me of their ongoing "Waterworld" show). The shark popping out of the water looks like the cheap Jaws effect on the studio tour, and the way the set is dressed makes it look terribly staged. Even the shotgun blast at the end reminds me of when the tour boat captain on Disney's "Jungle Cruise" shoots at a wild Hippopotamus. Xavier Samuel, Julian McMahon, Sharni Vinson, Phoebe Tonkin, Martin Sacks, Alice Parkinson, Alexander Russell, Qi Yuwu, Adrian Pang, Lincoln Lewis, Damien Garve all star.

Finally, we get our first peek at new stills from Russell Mulcahy's new 3D shark thriller 'Bait'. It's set to hit Australian theatres this September but will be interesting to see whether it sinks or floats amongst the other host of shark-related flicks that'll be emerging over the coming months. 'The Twilight Saga: Eclipse's Xavier Samuel stars alongside 'Nip/Tuck's Julian McMahon and two sweet-assed hotties Sharni Vinson and Alice Parkinson ('X-Men Origins: Wolverine', 'Sanctum'). Film: ‘Sanctum’; Cast: Richard Roxburgh, Ioan Gruffudd, Rhys Wakefield, Alice Parkinson, Dan Wyllie; Director: Alister Grierson; Rating: *** – a tribute to the spirit of adventure.
Somewhere at the middle of the film as the characters are fighting for survival, there’s a line when one says, ‘For the cave, we are just passing dust.’ And that is indeed how it is for the world where humans, no matter how great we are, are merely passing.

New 'Sanctum' movie delivered lots of intense drama & death scenes. Universal Pictures released their new drama/thriller flick "Sanctum" into movie theaters this weekend. I just checked it out,and thought that it was pretty good. It was a very intense and emotional movie. It stars: Richard Roxburgh, Rhys Wakefield, Ioan Gruffudd, Alice Parkinson, and Dan Wyllie. "Sanctum" revolved around a group of underwater cave divers who appeared to be having a great time when they arrived at one of the most beautiful and least accessible cave systems on planet Earth. Unfortunately, there good times wouldn't last long. The group consisted of about 7 or 8 people, but that number quickly dwindled down as the movie rolled along. The group was led by character Frank who was a very experienced master diver. One lady drowns to death when her oxygen line accidentally gets cut while diving deep with Frank. They...

From this day forward, when you think of large, dark, smelly holes that entice with both their mystery and their danger, you will think of James Cameron’s Sanctum. That’s the ill-advised hope anyway on behalf of Cameron and friends as they toss what amounts to a glorified 3D tech demo onto thousands of movie screens across the country. He didn’t direct this film, but his Executive Producer stamp is all over it (as the marketing is happy to remind you). It’s playing under the guise of being an action/adventure, and while there are some tense scenes scattered throughout it’s mostly a beautiful-looking misfire populated by characters you won’t give two shits about speaking dialogue that would embarrass even Cameron himself. Carl (Ioan Gruffudd) has just arrived in Papua New Guinea with his his girlfriend Victoria (Alice Parkinson) to survey the progress of an epic exploration of the Esa-ala cave system...

While many decry the use of 3D in today’s movies, occasionally the technique can be one of a film’s few saving graces. Certainly, this is true in the case of Sanctum, produced by James Cameron (as you’ve no doubt been reminded of ad nauseum in every promo). Without its beautiful cave locations and impressively photographed extra dimension, the movie’s cornball, B-movie story mechanics would be laughed off of the screen.
Set in the remote New Guinea rainforest, the story follows a group of divers out to chart a labyrinth-like cave system deep within the earth. Stock characters include a famous but hard-headed diving expert Frank (Richard Roxburgh) and his estranged teenage son, Josh (Rhys Wakefield). Joining them on the adventure is Arctic mountaineer Victoria (Alice Parkinson) and Luko (Cramer Cain). Luko is a local New Guinean assistant, which is code in these types of films for...

Maybe you’re even wondering why no one on the entire internet has said anything about them. Strange, we know. You should Not read this if you haven’t seen James Cameron’s: Sanctum, Produced by James Cameron, because I’m going to be giving lots of stuff away; not in hostile ranting, because I like disaster movies and I had fun with Sanctum. However, as a female with an Iq higher than a bag of bricks and the ability to not disintegrate into useless hysterics, I feel someone should stick up for our gender – someone who is actually pretty solid in an emergency.

Plot: An underwater cave diving team go exploring through undiscovered Earth. When a storm hits, and the cave starts to flood, they must survive and try to find another way out.
Who’S It For? Explorers will finally feel like they have their movie, especially with the 3D.
Expectations: James Cameron’s name is all over this project … as an executive producer. That’s a huge different than director. The cast is pretty much unknown, so I wasn’t excited to see anybody. I even watched a preview, but the whole time I was trying to figure out why in the world this movie was rated R.

On paper it sounds like a winning formula: your movie's story is about a group of adventurers get trapped in a flooding underground cave system and have to hope there is another way out by pushing on into the unexplored regions that lie ahead. The movie will be shot using the best 3D cameras so you won't be getting a crummy post-3D look to it and, get this, the guy who made the best 3D movie ever has agreed to be an executive producer on the film. Sounds like you can't go wrong, right?
Sanctum is what happens when it goes wrong.
It's not a bad movie but neither is Sanctum a good movie either. The premise is great, and the ingredients are there for a helluva thriller. But what's wrong with Sanctum are three things: bad dialogue, bad acting and lost opportunities in the direction.

"Avatar" this ain't gonna be. "Sanctum" is the first film with James Cameron's name in the credits since his blue-alien blockbuster in late 2009, but he only served as executive producer on this latest 3-D adventure, and "Sanctum" isn't likely even to cross the $15 million mark this weekend. It'll have to settle for second place at the box office behind the PG-13 thriller "The Roommate".
At issue — above and beyond the decidedly mixed reviews — is a largely unknown cast, an R-rating and a less-than-commercially-appealing storyline. The plot goes as follows: Frank (Richard Roxburgh) and his team are exploring a massive, mostly underwater cave system in Papua New Guinea when a freak cyclone floods the area and forces everyone to swim, scuba and climb toward escape.

The Avatar man is executive producer for a film about one of his pet topics, deep-water exploration – in this case, in a huge cave network in Papua New Guinea. By Peter Bradshaw
This cave-diving drama-cum-disaster-movie is not actually written or directed by James Cameron, but he is its executive producer, and it very much bears his stamp. He has a well-attested fascination with the gung-ho world of deep-water exploration. Richard Roxburgh plays Frank, an experienced caver leading a team exploring a huge cave network in Papua New Guinea; Ioan Gruffudd plays Carl, the blowhard business mogul who's bankrolling the project. Disaster strikes and the team start dying one by one. It's a reasonable film, unpretentious in its way.
