Rambo Prequel Movie In Development, Sylvester Stallone's Involvement & Filming Details Revealed In Report
Image
A Rambo prequel is officially in development. The iconic action movie franchise, which stars Sylvester Stallone in the role of John Rambo, kicked off in 1982 with the smash hit First Blood, which followed the Vietnam veteran character being targeted by Washington law enforcement, unleashing memories of his time as a prisoner of war that caused him to react violently to the situation. The first movie grossed $160.3 million against a reported budget of $15 million, spawning a multimedia franchise that now includes five Rambo movies, the most recent of which was 2019's Last Blood.

Per Deadline, Millennium Media is bringing a prequel titled John Rambo to the Cannes market. The movie, which is scheduled to begin shooting in Thailand this October, will follow the character's exploits during the Vietnam War. The project has a team attached that includes director Jalmari Helander and screenwriting team Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani. Sylvester Stallone is...

Rambo Prequel in the Works With Exciting Director Attached
Image
A new Rambo movie is in the works, but there's a catch: it's going to be a prequel. This means that the role of John Rambo will be recast as the film looks to explore the character's roots with a younger actor before the events of 1982's First Blood, the film that launched the hit action franchise.

Per Deadline, a new prequel, dubbed John Rambo, is going to be shopped at the Cannes market. The film comes from Millennium Media, the company behind the Has Fallen, Hitman's Bodyguard, and Expendables franchises. It may excite fans of the genre to learn that the prequel is set to be directed by Jalmari Helander, known for directing Sisu — a film widely hailed as one of the best action movies in years. Filming is expected to start in Thailand in October.

“We are thrilled to introduce a fresh new chapter to the Rambo legacy.

Boll also wrote the script, about a vigilante who becomes a social media sensation, drawing the ire of the local police chief.

Hammer set the jobs up himself. He was dropped by his agency, WME, and publicly ostracized after multiple former partners came...

Now, after Hammer has said he was “not welcome” in Hollywood anymore, the “Lone Ranger” actor is playing one of three outlaw criminals for “Frontier Crucible.”

The feature is produced by “Bone Tomahawk” and “Dragged Across Concrete” producer Dallas Sonnier, and is being billed as “Reservoir Dogs” meets “Bone Tomahawk.” The film is set in the Arizona Territory of the 1870s, and follows a former soldier...

The Daily Wire Sets Streaming Launch Date For Record-Breaking Documentary ‘Am I Racist?’
Image
Exclusive: After becoming the highest-grossing documentary at the U.S. box office in the past six years, the Daily Wire’s breakout feature Am I Racist? has been set for an October 28 streaming launch on the platform.

Directed by Justin Folk, the film sees conservative commentator and Daily Wire contributor Matt Walsh “investigating diversity, equity and inclusion practices, exposing absurdities through undercover social experiments.”

To date, the film has grossed more than $12M at the theatrical box office after launching in theaters nationwide on September 13, debuting in the top five films in the country on its opening weekend.

The movie has a 71% rating on Rotten Tomatoes from 14 reviews, but Daily Wire says the movie has been “largely ignored by mainstream critics, likely for fear of having to acknowledge its success.” The right-wing site also claims that the film has faced boycotts from some independent theaters over “safety concerns”.

Producers are Kirby Williamson,...

Matt Walsh Satire ‘Am I Racist?’ Hits 1,500-Plus Theaters as Ben Shapiro’s Daily Wire Bets Big for Movie Dominance
Image
Every now and then, a low-budget film emerges from outside the studio system and catches fire with the largely ignored right-leaning demographic, leaving mouths agape in Hollywood’s executive suites.

The Daily Wire hopes to add to the list of films that includes “The Passion of the Christ,” “I Can Only Imagine” and last year’s “Sound of Freedom” with the satire “Am I Racist?” — which marks the conservative media company’s first wide theatrical release. Starring comedian Matt Walsh, the “Borat”-style mockumentary takes aim at the Dei movement and is set to open in 1,510 theaters today, representing the most ambitious swing for the 9-year-old company founded by Ben Shapiro and Jeremy Boreing.

“They’re leaving plenty of money on the table, and we’re happy to come in and take some of it. Because, at a minimum, you are explicitly refusing to serve 50% of the audience,” Walsh says...

Conservative Media Voice Matt Walsh Goes Undercover as Dei Trainee in ‘Am I Racist?’ Doc
Image
Conservative politico, podcaster, media personality and provocateur Matt Walsh is on a mission to answer a complicated question in the forthcoming documentary Am I Racist?

The Justin Folk-directed film, described as a “social experiment,” comes from the Daily Wire and Digital Astronaut and will mark the company’s first theatrical launch for an in-house production with distribution handled by Sdg Releasing.

To introduce the doc, Daily Wire dropped a trailer on Tuesday that finds Walsh on said mission as he attends anti-racism workshops, crashes private intellectual dinner parties and conducts sit-down interviews with experts and everyday Americans alike on the fiery subject, all the while playing the role of “a bumbling, zealous Dei trainee,” per Daily Wire. One such expert is author Robin Diangelo, who penned White Fragility: Why It’s So Hard for White People to Talk About Racism.

“Growing up in the ‘90s, you never thought much about race.

Bridget Hoffman in The Evil Dead (1981)
The Must-List: 13 Spirit Award Nominated (and Winning) Horror Titles. So Scary!
Bridget Hoffman in The Evil Dead (1981)
It’s that time year again—when one might, upon their daily neighborhood perambulation, casually stumble upon a man dressed in a blood-splattered full-body jumpsuit and think to themself, this is perfectly fine and normal. But that’s the Halloween season for you, when the ghosts and goblins and AMC-obsessed Nicole Kidmans are out in full force for their yearly Halloween rituals.

Aside from meticulously inserting razor blades into the apples we all intend to hand out to local children, everyone’s favorite part of the Halloween season is—of course—the excuse to binge-watch our favorite horror movies, from the silly-scary (Hocus Pocus), to the fun-scary (Trick R Treat), to the scary-scary (The Evil Dead) or the really scary-scary (any news channel). In fact, horror movies have long been an integral part of the indie film ecosystem—turning minuscule budgets into huge box office numbers and launching the...

Image
Exclusive: The Daily Wire’s streaming service DailyWire+ is lining up a September start in Europe for what it is calling its biggest-budget production to date, a fantasy series inspired by Arthurian legend.

The Daily Wire confirmed to us that it won’t be needing an interim agreement from SAG.

The drama will be inspired by the first two books of the series written by Stephen R. Lawhead. The Pendragon Cycle is a retelling of the Arthurian legend, set not in the high Medieval age of knights in shining armor, but in the wake of a Roman-occupied Britain,...

Image
Exclusive: Convicting a Murderer, the docuseries response to Netflix’s popular true crime series Making a Murderer, has found a streaming home with DailyWire+, the SVOD platform of right-wing media company The Daily Wire.

The ten-part series, which has been six years in the making, is due to launch in summer 2023 with firebrand commentator Candace Owens narrating and fronting the project.

Directed by Shawn Rech, the series will re-examine the story of Steven Avery, who served 18 years in prison after a wrongful conviction for sexual assault and attempted murder, but was later convicted of the 2005 murder of Teresa Halbach.

The Emmy-winning Netflix series was a ratings and critical hit but also drew fire from some corners, including prosecutor Ken Kratz who claimed that key evidence from the trial was omitted from the documentary.

According to the conservative media company, their debut original, the action thriller Shut In, recently drew more than 500,000 viewers in its first 72 hours across YouTube and its own website. The popularity of that launch inspired a repeat of the model, the company has told us.

Scandal Is No Object: With Its First Film Slate, Daily Wire Embraces Those Out of Hollywood’s Favor
Image
The Daily Wire wants to make conservative movies to take on liberal Hollywood, which might sound like a lost cause from the start. But today it’s releasing a movie based on a Black List screenplay with a compelling genre hook that almost looks commercial — and just happens to sneak conservative values into the heart of its story.

The right-wing publication sells Leftist Tears travel mugs and hosts a podcaster who believes doctors who perform gender-affirmation surgeries are “treating kids like Frankenstein’s monster.” However, it might be able to succeed where Dinesh D’Souza, Steve Bannon, and other conservative filmmakers failed: Adapt a red-state approach to movies that sublimates politics into the story rather than turning it into obvious propaganda.

Today the site premieres its first original feature, “Shut In,” a thriller from “Disturbia” director DJ Caruso. Rainey Qualley stars as a single mother who, after being locked in her...

Vincent Gallo Returns To Acting In The Daily Wire Movie ‘Shut In’
Image
Cult and controversial actor-director Vincent Gallo is returning to acting after a near decade-long absence from features.

Quietly, Gallo took on one of the lead roles in D.J. Caruso’s movie thriller Shut In, which is the first original movie from conservative media outlet-turned film producer The Daily Wire, which just revealed the casting.

The project marks Gallo’s first feature acting role since 2013 film The Human Trust. The actor-filmmaker, now 60, is best known for directing controversial indie movie The Brown Bunny (2003) with Chloe Sevigny and Christina Ricci starrer Buffalo 66 (1998). In 2010 he won the best actor prize at the Venice Film Festival for his turn in Jerzy Skolimowski’s well-received movie Essential Killing.

Gallo is also known for making incendiary and provocative comments. His website — described by The Daily Wire as “satirical” — has come under fire for discriminatory passages. As an avowed Trump fan and a political conservative,...

Frightfest Glasgow Interview: Kyle Rankin talks ‘Run Hide Fight’
Image
Ahead of FrightFest’s UK premiere of Run Hide Fight at the Glasgow Film Festival, director Kyle Rankin talks about the personal tragedy that inspired the film, the influence of 70s cinema and the huge importance of film festivals.

Run Hide Fight was inspired by a tragic incident in your own past so did that make it a harder script to write?

In 1999, my best friend and fellow filmmaker, Shayne Worcester, was gunned down during a mugging in San Francisco. It came to light years later that the event was a gang initiation — meaning guys who wanted to be part of a gang were tasked with going out and killing a random civilian that night. He was only 29.

I think about him all the time, so I wouldn’t say that writing Run Hide Fight was harder…it was instead maybe cathartic.

Add to that the fact that my producer,...

I am sending out a direct message of hope to everyone living in fear of cancellation by the totalitarian mob. I have only just begun using my voice which is now freer than ever before, and I hope it inspires others to do the same. They can’t cancel us if we don’t let them.”
