Netflix has shared a first look at Apple Cider Vinegar, which is a true-ish story based on a lie about the rise and fall of a wellness empire, the culture that built it up, and the people who tore it down.

Set at the birth of Instagram, Apple Cider Vinegar follows two young women who set out to cure their life-threatening illnesses through health and wellness, influencing their global online communities along the way. All of which would be incredibly inspiring if it were all true.

Directed by Jeffrey Walker, the true crime series was inspired by The Woman Who Fooled The World: Belle Gibson’s Cancer Con, and the Darkness at the Heart of the Wellness Industry by Beau Donelly and Nick Toscano.

Samantha Strauss, Anya Beyersdorf, and Angela Betzien (Total Control) are the writers of the series.

The streamer is revealing a sneak peek Tuesday of its forthcoming Australian limited series Apple Cider Vinegar, a playfully fictionalized take on the story of Belle Gibson, the Australian single mother who launched a wellness empire by convincing the world she had brain cancer but was successfully curing herself with an all-natural lifestyle.

“This is a true-ish story based on a lie, about the rise and fall of a wellness empire; the culture that built it up and the people who tore it down,” Netflix’s official summary reads.

Netflix unveiled a batch of first-look images and a teaser video this morning featuring star Kaitlyn Dever (Booksmart, Dopesick, Unbelievable) as Belle during various stages of her improbable journey from anonymous striver to globally disgraced grifter.

Last King of the Cross is not going anywhere. After a breakout season in Australia, Paramount+ has renewed the crime drama for a second season while it works out details for it to air in other parts of the world, per Variety. Season one of the series is expected to air in the US later this year.

Starring Lincoln Younes, Tim Roth, Callan Mulvey, Claude Jabbour, Matt Nable, Maria Tran, and Tess Haubrich, the series, produced by Helium, is based on the autobiography of nightclub owner John Ibrahim and his life living in Sydney’s King Cross during the 1980s and 1990s.

They’re back. Rlje Films presents the Stephen King reboot Children of the Corn by Kurt Wimmer on 500+ screens. It’s a redo of the classic 1984 slasher-horror film about kids possessed by a demonic spirit in a dying cornfield, with bloody, rampaging results.

King’s iconic short story features a 12-year-old Nebraska girl who recruits the kids in her small town for a killing spree of all the adults, and anyone else who opposes her. A bright high schooler who won’t go along with the plan is the town’s only hope of survival. There are some new twists, in Wimmer’s version, the corn is genetically modified. Starring Elena Kampouris, Kate Moyer, Callan Mulvey and Bruce Spence.

The story is great, spawning numerous spinoffs beginning with Children of the Corn II: The Final Sacrifice in 1992 followed by Children of the Corn III: Urban Harvest in 1995. Most went direct to video.

Transfusion opens somewhere in the Middle East as an Australian special forces unit infiltrates an enemy bunker. Back in Australia, tragedy strikes again when his wife Justine, pregnant with what would have been their second child, is killed in a car accident leaving him to raise their son Billy alone.

It's now arriving in the US in March this year, after first playing in Australia earlier in January. A former Special Forces is operative thrust into the criminal underworld to keep his only son from being taken from him. In between performing his roles in the Avatar sequels for James Cameron, which were filmed in New Zealand, Sam Worthington took on this role. He plays a father suffering from Ptsd and without identity after retiring from the Special Air Service regiment (Sas) of the Australian Army. The thriller also features Phoebe Tonkin, Edward Friday Carmody, Matt Nable, Jeremy Lindsay Taylor, and Sam Cotton. It looks pretty generic overall, though there might be some good performances.

You can’t blame the guy: not long ago Worthington was swimming in shimmering oceans on a picturesque planet populated by lanky smurfs. Now, in this sombre Stan original film, Worthington plays Ryan Logan, a former sniper for the Australian Army who is struggling to adjust to normal society. He starts selling wine he knows nothing about before getting in over his head, entangled in a narrative reminiscent of a Liam Neeson B-thriller.

Comcast-owned pay-tv group Sky has snatched up rights across its European footprint for the upcoming Australian crime drama Last King of the Cross.

In a deal announced on the eve of international television market MIPCOM Cannes, Sky took exclusive rights across the UK, Ireland, Italy and Germany for the 10-part series starring Tim Roth and inspired by John Ibrahim’s best-selling autobiography about his rise from a poverty-stricken immigrant to Australia’s most infamous nightclub mogul. Goran Stolevski’s “Of An Age” won Australia’s richest film prize of A100,000 at CinefestOz at a gala closing night over the weekend in Busselton, Western Australia.

The Macedonian born, Melbourne based writer and director Stolevski also presented his much-lauded first feature “We Are Not Alone” at the festival.

The CinefestOZ film prize is dedicated to new Australian-made films and consisted of four finalists.The others also included Gracie Otto’s comedy “Seriously Red,”, the world premiere of Matt Nable’s intense drama “Transfusion,” starring Sam Worthington and audience favorite, “Sweet As,” the first-time feature by local indigenous director Jub Clerc.

Australia’s CinefestOZ has announced that the finalists for its lucrative annual film prize are Gracie Otto’s Seriously Red, Matt Nable’s Transfusion, Jub Clerc’s Sweet As and Goran Stolevski’s Of An Age.

The winner of the 68,000 prize will be revealed at the 15th edition of the festival, which is set to run from August 23-28 in the Margaret River region of Western Australia. It is the country’s only film festival dedicated solely to Australian cinema.

Roth takes on the role of antagonist Ezra Shipman in the Helium Pictures-produced serialized crime drama after McShane withdrew due to health concerns.

McShane was originally cast as Shipman in late March. He is also set to reprise his role opposite Keanu Reeves in John Wick: Chapter 4. Deadline has reached out to his reps.

Aacta has revealed those in contention for the major film, television and short-form prizes at this year’s awards, with High Ground leading the charge in the film categories and The Newsreader ahead in television.

The nominations follow those revealed for feature documentary in July, with the technical craft categories still to come.

Aacta also announced today that this year’s awards will move from The Star to the Sydney Opera House, with the ceremony to be held December 8.

There has also been a change in broadcast partners from Seven to 10, where the ceremony will air first followed by an encore on Fox Arena on Foxtel, Binge, and Aacta TV.

High Ground has earned eight nominations, including Best Film. Also nominated for the night’s major prize are Nitram, which earned seven nods, The Dry, which has six, as well as The Furnace, Penguin Bloom and Rams.

With Greater Sydney facing another two weeks in lockdown, the growing Covid-19 threat has led to mixed reactions regarding productions in the state as movements become more constricted.

More than 900 people have been infected in Nsw since the Bondi cluster was discovered last month.

The outbreak has led Victoria – which is due to begin a snap five-day lockdown of its own from midnight on Thursday – to close its border with Nsw and Act as of this week, with Queensland also extended border restrictions to all of Greater Sydney, including the Central Coast, Blue Mountains, Wollongong, and Shellharbour.

Meanwhile, Western Australia has reinstated border restrictions with Queensland and Nsw, while South Australia has closed its border with Nsw, the Act, and some parts of Queensland. Tasmania remains closed to people from greater Sydney.

The rise of the Delta strain is another blow to productions that have already had to navigate the unpredictable nature of the pandemic.

In the film, an American family takes a dream trip to the Australian outback and soon draws the attention of notorious serial killer Mick Taylor. A hellish nightmare ensues as the couple’s two children escape only to be hunted by Australia’s most infamous killer.

John Jarratt will reprise his role of Mick Taylor. Rachele Wiggins will direct from a screenplay by Duncan Samarasinghe.

Wolf Creek creator Greg McLean will produce through his Emu Creek Pictures banner, alongside Bianca Martino (“The Darkness”) and Kristian Moliere (“The Babadook”).

Matt Nable will make his directorial debut with Stan Original feature Transfusion, a thriller set to star Sam Worthington and Phoebe Tonkin.

Shooting now in Sydney, the film sees Worthington play Ryan Logan, a former Special Forces operative who is battling to cope with life after the loss of his wife (Tonkin) and is thrust into the criminal underworld to keep his only son from being taken from him.

Nable directs from his own script and will play a character known as Johnny. Also starring is new talent Edward Carmody, who will play Billy Logan, Ryan’s son.

John and Michael Schwarz from Deeper Water Films are the producers, with Transfusion marking the second Stan original film for the company following Anthony Hayes’ Gold.

Cailah Scobie, Paul Wiegard, Will Clarke, Andy Mayson and Mike Runagall are the executive producers.

Sam Worthington (“Avatar”) has signed on for crime thriller “Transfusion.” Altitude Media Group will represent the project at the upcoming Cannes Marche du Film (June 21-25).

The feature is helmed by actor, writer and director Matt Nable (“Arrow”) and represents his directorial debut. He previously wrote biker film “Outlaws”.

It began shooting in Sydney, Australia earlier this week.

Worthington is joined by fellow Australian Phoebe Tonkin (“The Vampire Diaries”) in the film, about a former Special Forces operative who finds himself in a criminal underworld as he tries to keep his son from being abducted.

Robert Connolly’s new film, The Dry, is a mystery at heart: An investigation into a small-town murder-suicide that inevitably kicks up the dust of other peoples’ secrets and picks the scabs on barely-healed wounds. Yet for all its depiction of police procedure and the ins and outs of investigation, it’s this other stuff — much of it backstory — that radiates from the film’s center. The circumstances of the crime, specifically the secrets of the man who ostensibly committed it, bleed into matters of the heart, and of memory.

Aaron Falk (Eric Bana) wasn’t ever planning on coming back. Leaving wasn’t his choice, but at a certain point the present replaces the past. Hearing that his best friend from high school killed his wife and son before turning the gun on himself wasn’t therefore going to change his mind. If anything, knowing that truth and the fact that Luke was gone might have been the final nail as far as never returning at all. But that’s when the card came with a cryptic message more or less blackmailing Aaron into attending the funeral. It was sent by Luke’s father and stated that he knew they lied twenty years ago. What was the lie? We don’t yet know. Whatever it was, though, it worked. Aaron was heading home.

Created, written by and starring Scott Ryan, the Sydney-shot series follows charismatic yet volatile hitman Ray Shoesmith as he juggles his roles of father, ex-husband, boyfriend, and criminal for hire.

The character was first introduced in Ryan’s 2005 mockumentary The Magician.

Mr Inbetween is directed by The Magician editor and producer Nash Edgerton, and produced by Michele Bennett, who also produced the original film.

Australian drama “Mr Inbetween” will end with its upcoming third season on FX, the cable channel announced Thursday.

The half-hour series — created by, written and starring Scott Ryan and directed by Nash Edgerton — will premiere its nine-episode final season on May 25 at 10/9c, with the first two episodes airing back to back. One new episode will air each subsequent week.

“Mr Inbetween” stars Ray Shoesmith (Ryan) as someone who “takes care of people” — collecting debts, relieving them of drugs and guns and often taking care of them on a more permanent basis, per FX. Ray demands respect and does not tolerate others disregarding his very clear code of ethics. As Ray’s increasingly volatile work collides with his imploding personal life, he finds himself struggling to stay atop the complex web he has woven.
