The world premiere of Bruce Goodison’s Black Cab starring Nick Frost will open this year’s Grimmfest, a UK horror and sci-fi fantasy festival held in Manchester October 3-6, 2024.

Frost stars in the Shudder title as an erratic cab driver who has no interest in taking the bickering couple he’s just picked up to their destination. Synnøve Karlsen and Luke Norris also star in the film which Sony Pictures Television and Stolen Pictures produce.

Grimmfest, Manchester’s renowned International Festival of Fantastic Film, has officially announced the first wave of titles for its 2024 edition. Scheduled to return to The Odeon Great Northern from October 3rd to 6th, the festival promises four days of exhilarating, genre-defining cinema.

Although the full programme of features, shorts, special guests, and related events is yet to be disclosed, the initial selection teases an eclectic mix of horror and fantastical narratives that will surely whet the appetites of attendees.

Festival Director, Simeon Halligan, expressed his excitement, stating, “That’s just a taster of the incredible movie premieres we are lining up for Grimmfest 2024. We don’t want to give too much away at this stage and there is still a whole body of premieres to be announced in late Summer. UK genre specialist has sold Federico Zampaglione’s gothic horror and Sitges premiere The Well to Uncork’d Entertainment for North America, for a theatrical release in July.

The Well is also set for a theatrical release in its native Italy, where it has been acquired by CG Entertainment. Other new deals include High-Fliers for UK, Premier TV for Benelux, Njuta for Scandinavia and Phoenicia for Middle East.

I have been a fan of Federico Zampaglione’s genre work since I saw his film Shadow in 2009. Then came the original cut of Tulpa back at Frighfest 2012. It’s safe to say I was one of the Only people who reviewed that screening and that cut positively (and then went on to review the recut just as glowingly) and saw what Zampaglione was trying to achieve.

With the announcement of this year's lineup of films playing at Sitges this year comes the push from individual films to stand out from the derth of programming. One such film that caught our attention at the production stages was Federico Zampaglione's supernatural horror flick, The Well.   It was primarily because his upcoming film cast Terrifier 2's Lauren Lavera in the lead role. That extreme dose of graphic horror was still doing bonkers business in the box office so Lavera quickly became a household name among horror fans. Genre festival to open with ‘Train To Busan Presents: Peninsula’.

South Korean zombie thriller Train To Busan Presents: Peninsula will open UK genre festival FrightFest on October 22 ahead of its UK release by Studiocanal on November 6.

The festival will host 34 features in central London from October 22-25 and has secured seven world premieres and two European premieres.

It will close with the world premiere of US horror Held, directed by Chris Lofing and Travis Cluff, the filmmaking duo behind The Gallows franchise.

This week sees the launch of the fundraising campaign for Start.Stop.Repeat., a documentary intended to explore the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic from the point of view of those working on the front line. By looking at events in the context of previous pandemics, the film will seek to learn lessons so that we can improve the way we do things in future.

While many filmmakers have found ways of engaging with the pandemic - such as Federico Zampaglione, who made shorts Tulpa & Shadow and Bianca: Phase 2 in his own home, and Rob Savage, who made Host with most of his actors shooting their scenes in isolation - Nidhi Gupta's film will be one of the first documentaries to address the pandemic head on. As well as being a filmmaker, Gupta is a doctor who has been directly involved in treating Covid-19 patients, an experience that.

Jackie (Benz), a troubled young woman struggling with addiction, is released from rehab and given a second chance with a new job and a furnished apartment at Havenhurst. Guilt-ridden over the loss of her 8-year-old daughter, Jackie is quickly drawn into the mysteries of Havenhurst, in particular the disappearance of apartment 1006′s previous lost soul, a young woman (Harris) she befriended in rehab who vanished without a trace. Aided by a hardened New York police detective (Stamberg) and a lonely foster child (Shouse) who lives under the sadistic shadow of her caretakers, Jackie must not only battle her inner demons… but the very real ones that live within the walls of Havenhurst.

I am incredibly pleased to announce that one of my favourite giallo of all time (and I say that without a hint of sarcasm or irony – just go back and read my reviews of the film to see that), Tulpa is Finally getting a UK release! High Fliers Films and Jinga Films have this week announced the long awaited UK DVD release of Federico Zampaglione’s sensational neo-giallo horror – which is set to hit UK stores on May 9th 2016.

Watchmen writer Alan Moore to attend world premiere of his screenwriting debut, Show Pieces.

Film4 FrightFest is to screen a record 20 short films, 12 of them world premieres, at this year’s August 23 event in London.

World premieres include Show Pieces, comprising three tales written by Alan Moore, the writer of graphic novels including Watchmen, The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen, From Hell, Constantine and V For Vendetta.

It marks the first time Moore has written for the screen and the short is directed by his close friend and acclaimed photographer Mitch Jenkins.

The interconnected trilogy kicks off with Act of Faith in which a young woman looking for the next step in sexual excitement finds it with unfortunate consequences. When a film ends and the audience walks out the doors of a movie theater, shuts off their TVs, or switches the channel, there’s a certain reaction that is expected. That reaction can be excitement, anger, derision, joy, and so forth and so on. The gist is that a movie should engender some sort of reaction from the audience. Shadow is the type of film that fails to elicit any type of reaction from the audience. It’s so poorly made that being derisive towards the film serves no point. The proceedings in the film are so bland that there’s nothing to get excited about. Shadow is stupid on a level that doesn’t even allow for anger from the viewer. Italian actress Claudia Gerini is best known to UK audiences for appearances in The Passion of the Christ, Penelope Cruz’s Don’t Move and as a memorable villain in the TV adaptation of Kate Mosse’s Labyrinth. Audiences will soon be able to see her in the mad Italian sex-thriller Tulpa, directed by her husband Federico Zampaglione, whose previous film was the neat little horror, Shadow. A throwback to the classic Italian giallo horror-thrillers of the 1960s and 70s, Tulpa concerns a beautiful banker, Lisa (Gerini) whose life becomes a nightmare when members of the sex club she frequents begin turning up dead.

Synapse is planning to bring Demons and Demons 2 to Blu-ray later this year and have revealed new details on an upcoming limited edition steelbook release:

A brand new and kind of disturbing one-sheet for the Italian giallo-esque thriller Tulpa has hit the world weird web, and we have every scarred up pixel of it right here for your perusal. Check it out!

Tulpa will premiere at Fanta Festival in Rome on June 16th before rolling out to 100 screens across the country on June 20th. Meanwhile, at the recent Cannes Film Festival, international sales agent Jinga Films secured distribution for Tulpa in Germany, France, Scandinavia and South Korea. Tulpa will recieve its Russian premiere at the prestigious Moscow International Film Festival in June and will also premiere in Switzerland at Neuchatel Fantastic Filmfest and in Germany at Fantasy Fest. No word yet on a domestic release.

Tul-pa (from the Tibetan): meaning a magically produced illusion or creation. The concept of a being or object which is created through sheer discipline alone. It is a materialized thought that has taken physical form.

Italian rock star turned director Federico Zampaglione made a splash in 2009 when his first film Shadow played to a packed audience at London’s Frightfest. Returning some three years later, Zampaglione unleashed Tulpa on an eager and willing horror-hungry audience. I originally reviewed Tulpa after the Frightfest screening last August in London and whilst I loved the film for it’s classic giallo trappings and gloriously Ott murders, many attendees felt differently.

Okay, kids. Time to drool a little bit as we're about to show you two amazing packages for Synapse Films' upcoming Blu-ray releases of the classic flicks Demons and Demons 2. The word "badass" is an understatement.

Say what you will about his recent output, Dario Argento is still a legend in the horror community. The Italian director has released so many quality horror films and has given us so many nightmarish images over the years that I’m surprised that I can sleep at all at night. Two of these classics from the director will be making their way for the first time on Blu-ray in the states. Phenomena and Tenebrae will both be seeing a hi-def release courtesy of Synapse Films later this year. Arrow Video has previously released both of these in the UK and abroad, but U.S. fans will finally get to see the gory details of these two films on Blu-ray.
