Langford’S Picks And Pans
River City
I’ve had my doubts about Will and Robbie’s relationship since the very beginning. They always seemed ill-suited for one another and I never felt they had much spark. And well, there are the incidents of domestic violence between the couple that put me against any future between them.
But this past week, with Will and Robbie getting married, I decided to put my doubts and previous impressions aside, at least for this episode and try and enjoy the story as presented in this particular episode. I found that it was a well-crafted piece of drama, well done in both writing and acting, though I do have a few issues.
I thought it was ridiculous that rather than tell Will about Edwards’ attempts to bribe him, Robbie gets stinking drunk. Clearly this only made the situation worse. Will had no idea what...

There was definitely something in the air with the gays of Salem last week on Days Of Our Lives. We had all been as patient as possible waiting for that first kiss between Sonny (Freddie Smith) and Will (Chandler Massey) but their buss didn't quite go as planned. Emotional mess Will then got into a fight with his father, Lucas (Bryan Datillo) before rushing all aflutter into the arms (and bed, I might add) of his former girlfriend (Camila Banus). And Sonny let another guy - hunky Brian (Brant Daugherty) - wipe latte foam from his lip and caress his cheek, which prompted Tad (Brendan Coughlin) to go into a gay hate rage and deck Sonny.
So what better time to take a trip to Salem, right? AfterElton sat down with Freddie Smith in between shooting scenes last week and got his take on all the recent happenings, whether we'll...

Sorry there was no column last week, but the big U.S. East Coast storm left me without power for several days. Thanks to all of you who wrote telling me how much you missed “Langford on Soaps.” It’s appreciated!
Langfords’ Picks And Pans
Good Times, Bad Times
When I heard that Gtbt was going to give Lucas a potential new love interest in the form of Bilal, a closeted gay Muslim, I hated the idea. And now that the story has begun to unfold, leading to the badly-played season finale in which Lucas and Bilal kissed, I hate it even more. To be blunt, this is a horrible, clichéd plot on a show that has long had problems with solid and consistent storytelling. I’d taken a hiatus from this show for most of the last season because it was unwatchable. And I’m already thinking of not...

There has been a brief uptick in killer bear flicks the last two years, and not all for the best. Now comes a new one simply titled Bear that, judging by its trailer, takes the T-Rex/jeep scene from Jurassic Park, ages the occupants in peril about 15 years, replaces the T-Rex with a very angry grizzly with vengeance on its mind, and builds an entire movie around it.
"Two young couples are driving through a remote forest when their car breaks down. When a run-in with a curious grizzly bear ends up with the bear being shot to death, the bear's mate arrives on the scene and vengefully attacks their van. The couples are trapped inside the disabled car and must come up with clever ways to survive. As they battle the surprisingly intelligent creature and contemplate their uncertain fate, secrets begin to emerge that threaten to tear the group apart before the bear does.

With a new English (originally it was called ‘Underground’) title under its belt, a first trailer has surfaced for Tinieblas Gonzalez's upcoming Spanish horror Asd: Alma Sin Dueno (aka 'A Soul Disowned'), and it's all looking very promising so far. His feature film debut, Gonzalez earlier works include a series of shorts and a gothic adaptation of Edgar Allen Poe's 'The Raven Nevermore.' Written by Gonzalez, Koldo Serra (Backwoods) and Txabier Alastruey, Asd is set in a labyrinth of subway tunnels and although it’s a Spanish production, the movie is actually being shot in English with Brendan Coughlin, Francia Raisa, Doug Haley and Deance Wyatt starring. Still in post production, the pic is due out in the new year.
