On the heels of the recent teaser trailer, IGN has shared a new behind-the-scenes featurette for the upcoming Red Sonja reboot, and it highlights some action-packed new footage of the She-Devil with a Sword laying waste to her enemies.
In addition, the movie's official Instagram page has posted some new stills and a BTS photo of star Matilda Lutz wearing Sonja's iconic (not to mention infamous) chain-mail bikini.
The trailer actually shows the bikini right at the end - but not with Lutz in it! We assume Sonja will wear the two-piece armor for a few brief scenes as she competes as a gladiator at the behest of the villainous Draygan before returning to her (slightly) less revealing and more practical costume.

A reboot of Red Sonja spent nearly fifteen years in development hell before going into production in 2022 with director M.J. Bassett (Solomon Kane) at the helm. Before Bassett signed on, the project had passed through the hands of directors Robert Rodriguez, Simon West, Bryan Singer, and Joey Soloway, with Hannah John-Kamen, Rose McGowan, and Amber Heard being considered for the lead role. Matilda Lutz ended up starring in the film, which is set to receive a theatrical release (courtesy of Samuel Goldwyn Films) on August 13 before arriving on digital on August 29. With those dates swiftly approaching, a behind-the-scenes look at the film’s stunts, fights, cast, and horses has been shared on social media, along with a selfie Lutz took while wearing the title character’s iconic chainmail bikini.

It’s finally here, folks. After years of delays, with names like Robert Rodriguez and Rose McGowan once attached, the remake of Red Sonja is about to be released. Samuel Goldwyn Films snagged the U.S. distribution rights for the Millennium Films production. Matilda Lutz dons the metal bikini this time around in the role that Brigitte Nielsen previously played in the 1985 film, which also featured an appearance by Arnold Schwarzenegger as Conan. Samuel Goldwyn Films has now released the trailer and Red Sonja is due to hit screens on August 15 before arriving on digital on August 29.

It had been so long since we had any updates on the Red Sonja reboot that a lot of fans had given up hope of ever seeing the movie, but we got word that the project had found a US distributor in Samuel Goldwyn Films back in March, and the first official trailer has now been released (via EW).
The teaser finds the She-Devil with a Sword (Revenge star Matilda Lutz) captured by the ruthless Dragan (Robert Sheehan) and forced to fight in a gladiatorial-style arena. Sonja manages to escape, and joins forces with a group of fellow warriors to seek vengeance against Dragan and his wife, Dark Annisia (Wallis Day).
There's plenty of bloody action, some fantastical creatures (brought to life with surprisingly decent CGI), and Sonja's infamous chain-mail bikini even makes an appearance - though not with her in it!
Check out the trailer below along with a new poster.

The myth comes from Rambo III’s original dedication to the “gallant people of Afghanistan” fighting the Soviets in 1988. At the time, the U.S. supported Mujahideen fighters, some of whom were loosely linked to Osama Bin Laden. But the film never mentioned him, directly or indirectly.
The dedication was later edited, but conspiracy theories took over. Is it an internet myth that spiralled out of context? Here are the juicy details.
Rambo III and Osama Bin Laden connection: Is this real, or is it just fantasy? Let’s rewind the myth Sylvester Stallone in Rambo: First Blood | Credits: Orion Pictures
Rambo III never gave a shoutout to Osama bin Laden. The alleged statement, which became a widely circulated myth in the conspiratorial circles, supposedly attributed during the ending of the film, “This film is dedicated to the brave Mujahideen fighters of Afghanistan,” is completely fake.

Millennium Media, the force behind action mainstays such as The Expendables and The Fallen franchise, is charting new territory with the Rambo saga.
Currently making waves at the Cannes Film Festival, the studio is shopping a prequel that will delve into the origins of John Rambo, an origin story that notably will not star Sylvester Stallone in the lead role (though a cameo isn't entirely off the table).
Millennium is financing the project and actively seeking distribution partners at the festival, with production anticipated to begin in October.
This trip into the past follows Millennium's previous franchise installments, Rambo (2008) and Rambo: Last Blood (2019). A Rambo prequel is officially in development. The iconic action movie franchise, which stars Sylvester Stallone in the role of John Rambo, kicked off in 1982 with the smash hit First Blood, which followed the Vietnam veteran character being targeted by Washington law enforcement, unleashing memories of his time as a prisoner of war that caused him to react violently to the situation. The first movie grossed $160.3 million against a reported budget of $15 million, spawning a multimedia franchise that now includes five Rambo movies, the most recent of which was 2019's Last Blood.
Per Deadline, Millennium Media is bringing a prequel titled John Rambo to the Cannes market. The movie, which is scheduled to begin shooting in Thailand this October, will follow the character's exploits during the Vietnam War. Millennium Media will march into this year’s Cannes Film Festival armed to the teeth with entertainment for action fans when it brings John Rambo, an origin film featuring the iconic action hero portrayed by Sylvester Stallone, to the annual market event. John Rambo is a prequel to 1982’s First Blood, the movie featuring Stallone as John Rambo, a veteran Green Beret forced by a cruel Sheriff and his deputies to flee into the mountains and wage an escalating one-person war against his pursuers.
Jalmari Helander directs John Rambo, based on a script by Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani (Black Adam). Filming could start in Thailand in October if everything goes according to plan.
The plot of John Rambo’s story is unknown, though we know it takes place before the events of First Blood. The project focuses on the Vietnam War vet’s early days, and casting is in the early stages.

After the origins of Batman, James Bond, and Han Solo were shown on the big screen, it looks like Rambo is next. Alongside Rocky Balboa, John Rambo is one of the defining roles of Sylvester Stallone's career and helped cement him as a cinematic icon. Stallone has since split from the Rocky franchise due to a falling out with producer Irwin Winkler, who owns the property. Now it looks like Stallone's other big title franchise is about to move on without him as a prequel to John Rambo is being developed six years after Stallone said goodbye to the character in Rambo: The Last Blood.
Deadline reports that Millennium Media is developing a Rambo prequel titled John Rambo and shopping the movie for buyers at the Cannes Film Festival. John Rambo is set to be directed bySisu filmmaker Jalmari Helander, with a screenplay by Black Adam writing duo Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani.

A new Rambo movie is in the works, but there's a catch: it's going to be a prequel. This means that the role of John Rambo will be recast as the film looks to explore the character's roots with a younger actor before the events of 1982's First Blood, the film that launched the hit action franchise.
Per Deadline, a new prequel, dubbed John Rambo, is going to be shopped at the Cannes market. The film comes from Millennium Media, the company behind the Has Fallen, Hitman's Bodyguard, and Expendables franchises. It may excite fans of the genre to learn that the prequel is set to be directed by Jalmari Helander, known for directing Sisu — a film widely hailed as one of the best action movies in years. Filming is expected to start in Thailand in October.

One of the most divisive action movies in the repertoire of Hollywood icon (and now a so-called "Special Ambassador" tasked with saving the industry) Sylvester Stallone is climbing the charts on Netflix. Released back in 2019, Stallone leads the final outing for one of his most beloved characters, John Rambo, in Rambo: Last Blood, which finds the hero battling a cartel after someone close to him is kidnapped.

Directed by Adrian Grünberg from a screenplay co-written by Matthew Cirulnick and Sylvester Stallone, Last Blood stars Paz Vega, Sergio Peris-Mencheta, Adriana Barraza, Yvette Monreal, Genie Kim aka Yenah Han, Joaquín Cosío, and Óscar Jaenada alongside Stallone. Matilda Lutz ended up starring in the film, and while we still don’t know when we’ll get to see her version of the title character in action, a set pic has just arrived online to give us a look at a blood spattered Lutz wearing a version of the character’s iconic bikini armor. Hellboy: The Crooked Man will be the fourth live-action movie featuring the Mike Mignola-created superhero. Recently, the reboot has come under fire for reportedly using AI to design its creatures, a claim that the movie's director Brian Taylor has publicly debunked.
The Motion Picture Association recently published a discussion with Jonathan Yunger, President of Millennium Films, at the 74th Berlin International Film Festival, which quoted Yunger as stating that he had used AI to replace a character that was shot practically: "I was able to make 3000 creature designs in an hour. So now I can start to cherry-pick and edit those and then send it to visual effects." Yunger's comments were not received favorably by the Hellboy community, with many expressing disgust at the forthcoming reboot for replacing a practical character with AI. However, Taylor has now released a statement claiming that Yunger was misquoted.

Hellboy: The Crooked Man has been accused of using generative AI to design its creatures. It hasn’t (but another demon film has).
Feature image: Ron Perlman as Hellboy in Guillermo Del Toro’s Hellboy, which emphatically didn’t use generative AI.
Update: A previous version of this article was written before the film’s director issued his clarification, in which he stated that producer Jonathan Yunger’s comments were incorrectly attributed to Hellboy: The Crooked Man.
The use of AI is perhaps the most hotly debated subject in the arts today. Only a few weeks ago, we reported that AI was used in Late Night With The Devil to create the inserts seen in the film that follows David Dastmalchian’s talk show host chatting to an actual demon. Many took to social media to condemn the film’s use of it, arguing it took jobs away from real artists.

There has been a constant battle of human vs AI in art as the technology now seems to be tempting to many artists. Sure, sometimes, AI does marvel bringing out the acute wonders our minds can imagine with prompts. But how can prompts be an art form? Fans now question Millennium Films’ President’ justification as he openly admitted using AI in the new Hellboy film.

Back in June of 2021, it was announced that Julian Sands, best known around here for playing the Warlock in the 1989 horror film fittingly titled Warlock and then coming back for the sequel Warlock: The Armageddon, had signed on to star in a new genre project called The Piper, which puts a horrific twist on the legend of the Pied Piper. Sadly, it was only seven months later that we heard Sands had gone missing while hiking on California’s Mount Baldy. Six months later, his body was found. He did get to work on The Piper before he passed away, though, and the film is now ready to make its way out into the world.
