Arrowverse Stars Snubbed from ‘Flash’ Crossovers After Salary Showdowns
Image
The Arrowverse came to a close last year after Superman & Lois wrapped up its fourth season in December 2024, marking the end of The CW’s superhero lineup. But fans might not know the full story behind some of the biggest crossover events that happened earlier in the franchise’s history, especially why certain fan-favorite characters didn’t show up as much as expected.

Danielle Panabaker, who played Caitlin Snow/Killer Frost on The Flash, opened up about some of the behind-the-scenes drama on the latest episode of Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum.

She explained that a big reason some actors disappeared from the popular crossover episodes was because of pay disputes. When actors asked to be paid the same amount they earned on their main shows for their crossover appearances, they were often written out instead.

Panabaker shared that in The Flash’s first season, the crossovers with Arrow were pretty simple.

Supergirl: We Take a Look at All the Actresses Who’ve Played the Role Before Woman of Tomorrow!
Image
I just watched every movie and TV show featuring Supergirl with one goal in mind: to figure out why I’m so excited for the upcoming Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. Now that James Gunn’s Superman is out, I can finally say it: Supergirl is introduced in the film. And her introduction is one of the strongest parts. Superman (2025) takes the bold approach of skipping traditional origin stories. You’re just dropped into a party where everyone already knows each other—and they don’t feel the need to explain their shared pasts. But Supergirl’s arrival hits a little differently. To be honest, I’ve always had a bit of a blind spot when it comes to Kara Zor-El. I loved some Superman stories as a kid, but I’d never seen the 1984 Supergirl movie until this week. I skipped the CW show because, well, there were like a hundred Arrowverse series.

Eric Bana’s 77% Rotten Tomatoes 'True Detective' Replacement Is a Major Global Hit
Image
Netflix has unearthed yet another global hit in Untamed, a new murder mystery series starring Eric Bana. Released on July 17, 2025, the six-episode limited series wasted no time in shooting up the charts, becoming the No. 1 most-watched show on the platform in both the United States and globally. Within days of its premiere, Untamedracked up an astonishing 24.6 million views before its debut week even came to a close.

Created by screenwriting duo Mark L. Smith (The Revenant) and Elle Smith, Untamed is set against the rugged backdrop of Yosemite National Park. The series centers on Kyle Turner (Bana), a special agent with the National Park Service’s Investigative Services Branch. Still reeling from the recent loss of his young son, Turner is pulled into a murder investigation when an unidentified corpse is discovered deep within the park grounds. He’s forced to team up with a green rookie from the Nps,...

Yellowstone’s Long-Lost Twin? How The Waterfront’s Harlan Is the John Dutton of the Bayou
Image
Netflix’s The Waterfront arrived on screens June 19, promising a Southern crime saga with all the hallmarks of Yellowstone’s rugged family empire drama. But in the murky swamps of North Carolina rather than Montana’s open plains.

Created by Kevin Williamson, known for Scream and Dawson’s Creek, the show centers on Harlan Buckley (Holt McCallany), a grizzled patriarch struggling through a second heart attack while clutching a glass of whiskey. Alongside his wife, Mae (Maria Bello), and their fractured children, the Buckleys juggle a commercial fishing business with a darker, illicit drug smuggling trade.

Critics and audiences alike have spotted the spitting image of Yellowstone’s Duttons in the Buckleys, as The Waterfront shot straight to the top of Netflix’s charts in a matter of days (per Tudum). But it has also left viewers polarized. As FandomWire observes, the series feels like Dawson’s Creek or The O.C. for...

James Gunn On Milly Alcock's "Rougher" Girl Of Steel & Krypto's Fate In Supergirl Movie - Spoilers
Image
Superman introduces Milly Alcock as a take on Supergirl fans probably weren't expecting, as we see a drunk Girl of Steel show up at the Fortress of Solitude to collect Krypto from her cousin towards the end of the movie.

James Gunn has already said that this version of the character as a bit of a "mess" due to growing up in a far less stable environment than Clark Kent, and during a new interview with Rolling Stone, the DC Studios co-ceo shared some more details on this incarnation of Kara Zor-El and how she will differ to her comic book counterpart.

"When I took this job, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow [the graphic novel that inspired 2026’s Supergirl] was, like, number one for me of the things I knew I wanted to do. Ana Nogueira just killed the script right away, and saw what I saw in how the comic could be adapted to film, where...

3 Superhero Must Watch Before Superman and Fantastic Four Hit Netflix
Image
James Gunn’s Superman, starring David Corenswet, is in theatres, and Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Fantastic Four is about to arrive in theatres soon. While it will be quite some time before the two films arrive on streaming, it is unlikely that Fantastic Four will get a release on Netflix since it will arrive on Disney+.

As for Superman, there are no reports that suggest the film will be released on Netflix as well, as it is most likely to stream on HBO/Max. While we await their release on streaming platforms, possibly 5 or 6 months after their theatrical runs end, here are three standout superhero titles that you definitely should watch now to get grounded before the splashy arrival of these two superhero icons.

3. Project Power (2020) Project Power | Credits: Netflix

Where to Stream All the Arrowverse Shows Right Now: From ‘Superman & Lois’ to ‘The Flash’
Image
If you’ve seen “Superman” in theaters already, you might be itching for a bit more live action DC in your life, though maybe not in film form. That’s easy though, as TV’s Arrowverse still exists for you to relive.

Originally started on The CW — with a brief detour to CBS in the first season of “Supergirl” — superheroes including Superman, The Flash, Green Arrow and more existed on the small screen for years. So, if you’re looking to form your own ranking of live-action Man of Steel portrayals, you’ll definitely want to make a pit stop here.

Here’s where you can stream each of the series now.

Netflix's 'Ozark' Replacement Continues To Be a Global Streaming Success
Image
Netflix may have said goodbye to Ozark, but its spiritual successor is holding the fort — and then some. The Waterfront, the streamer’s new gritty crime drama, has proven to be a major global hit, dominating Netflix’s Top 10 English-language shows list for three straight weeks before finally dropping to No. 2 in its fourth week. The series, which features a sharp ensemble cast and moody slow-burn storytelling in the tradition of Ozark and Bloodline, has pulled in over 36 million views globally and racked up 229 million hours of watch time. While it finally slipped from the top spot this week — replaced by The Sandman Season 2 — The Waterfront’s initial run has been nothing short of a win for Netflix.

Created by Scream and Dawson’s Creek mastermind Kevin Williamson, The Waterfrontfollows the Buckley family, owners of a North Carolina fishery with a long history of shady side hustles. But despite the pedigree...

Supergirl Star Milly Alcock Shares Meme Making Fun Of Kara's Drunken Dcu Debut
Image
The first teaser poster for DC Studios' Supergirl, which recently dropped "Woman of Tomorrow" from the title, features the tagline "Look Out," and if you saw the Girl of Steel's Dcu debut in Superman, you should have a pretty good idea why.

In the closing moments of James Gunn's reboot, Kal-El's little cousin makes quite an entrance when she shows up to the Fortress of Solitude to collect Krypto. Kara is clearly more than a little tipsy, having spent some time partying on a planet with a red sun (a Kryptonian's physiology prevents them from feeling the effects of alcohol on Earth).

This take on Supergirl is evidently going to have some issues (Gunn has already referred to her as a "mess"), and something tells us she won't take her responsibilities as a hero quite as seriously as her cousin.

Now, Alcock has taken to Instagram to share...

The Supergirl Movie Poster Shows How James Gunn Is Building On Superman's Best Moments
Image
This article contains spoilers for "Superman."

"Superman" has now successfully introduced James Gunn and Peter Safran's DC Universe to the big-screen. Maybe more importantly, though, the movie has also crafted a feeling among audiences that they should expect different things from each Dcu project. Indeed, Gunn has repeatedly said each entry in this cinematic universe will feel different and there's no real "house style" to speak of. Now, the filmmaker has unveiled the first "Supergirl" poster on social media, and it seems to back up his claim in a big way.

In the first poster for "Supergirl," Milly Alcock's Kara Zor-El is shown defiantly leaning on a wall drinking a frozen convenience store beverage -- one that's clearly not your average Slurpee -- in front of a mural of the symbol adorned by her cousin Superman (David Corenswet). Of course, the "Superman" tagline of "Look Up" is scrawled...

Supergirl: Everything We Know About Milly Alcock's DC Universe Movie
Image
Superman might still be doing a victory lap after a great opening weekend at the box office, but now all eyes are on his cousin Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl (Milly Alcock). Among the fun cameos that made their way into James Gunn's Man of Steel movie, Superman's cousin dropped in faster than an intoxicated bullet to pick up her pooch, Krypto, before flying off out of the new door she made for the Fortress of Solitude. The passing visit might've come as a shock for some viewers, but for Gunn, it's all part of the ever-expanding plan being laid out for the DC Universe -- and Supergirl is next up on the movie slate.

But is that really the kind of Supergirl we'll be meeting when her standalone movie arrives? What kind of antics will she be getting up to, and how does the Man of Steel's new...

Superman: First Official BTS Look At Milly Alcock Suited-Up As Supergirl Released
Image
Superman is now in theaters, and in addition to introducing the world to the Dcu's new big-screen Man of Steel, Milly Alcock's Supergirl makes her debut in a fun scene towards the end of the movie.

When Supes returns to the Fortress of Solitude after saving the day, his cousin Kara drops by to pick up Krypto. The Girl of Steel has been partying on a planet with a red sun (the only way a Kryptonian can get drunk), and is more than a little merry.

After playing around with her super-pooch for a bit, Kara departs with a "thanks for watching him, bitch."

Now, Alcock's hairstylist Lindsay McAllister Pritchard has shared our first behind-the-scenes look at the House of the Dragon alum suited-up as Supergirl. An official still from the movie has yet to be released, but there's a good chance Kara will get her own character poster...

Superman: DC Comics' 10 Strongest Kryptonians, Ranked
Image
It's a bird... it's a plane... it's... James Gunn's "Superman" finally crashing into theaters! After what feels like an eternity in orbit, the long-awaited David Corenswet-led relaunch of the DC Universe is approaching our atmosphere, having poetically escaped the destruction of the doomed world that came before.

As Warner Bros. looks to revive the public image of their biggest source of intellectual property, Gunn has decided to eschew the previous iteration of the Man of Steel's emphasis on god-like power to instead strike a more human tone -- one which is already resonating with audiences. Though this will likely lead to a more moving, character-driven story, some Super-Fans will miss seeing Kryptonians battling it out with unparalleled strength, speed, and invulnerability (at least for now).

Fortunately for us, we still have the comics. DC has thoroughly explored the bounds of Kryptonian strength over the past several decades,...

Superman: What Does Lex Luthor’s Pocket Dimension Mean? Will He Create His Battle Suit?
Image
Every different iteration of the Superman story has its own version of Lex Luthor scheming and plotting to take down the Man of Steel—each sharing certain similar eccentricities and egomaniac tendencies but retaining individuality at the same time. Gene Hackman portrayed a classic version of the billionaire supervillain in Christopher Reeve’s Superman movies, whereas Michael Rosenbaum’s frenemy relationship with Tom Welling’s version of Superman in Smallville was unmatched. Both Jon Cryer and Michael Cudlitz were excellent as menacing, vengeful Luthor in CW’s Arrowverse as they opposed Tyler Hoechlin’s version of Superman and Melissa Benoist’s Supergirl. Performances like these already posed a challenge for Nicholas Hoult, who played the most recent iteration of Lex Luthor in live action in Superman, and after seeing the movie I can easily say that he not only carried the burden of expectations with ease but also set a...

Whether it’s a hopeful farm girl learning to control her powers or a hardened warrior ready to face apocalyptic threats, every version of Supergirl has reflected the era and universe she belonged to. James Gunn's Superman Introduces A Major DC Comics Hero Hidden From Marketing
Image
We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.

Spoilers for "Superman" to follow.

To answer the first question I'm sure you're asking after the headline, I'll quote the "Simpsons" episode "Marge vs. the Monorail" — "It's not Batman!"

(Though you can get a glimpse of the DC Universe's Dark Knight in "Creature Commandos.")

Now, onto "Superman." As critics, including the Atlantic's David Sims, have pointed out, James Gunn's new movie is the first one to embrace how zany Superman's world is by putting him alongside other superheroes from the beginning. This Clark Kent (David Corenswet) wasn't the dawn of the Dcu's age of Gods and Monsters, he merely shines the brightest of all its heroes.

During "Superman," Kal-El works alongside the so-called "Justice Gang," which is composed of Green Lantern (Nathan Fillion), Hawkgirl (Isabela Merced), and Mister Terrific (Edi Gathegi). Later, he also meets the elemental...

Star of Netflix's 'Yellowstone' Dupe's 22% Rotten Tomatoes Thriller Is a Sleeper Hit on Streaming
Image
Following his reprisal of Eric Foreman in the long-awaited sequel seriesThat '90s Show, the brilliant Topher Grace set his sights on a new project, made in the shadow of the Western genre's recent renaissance. That series was The Waterfront, created by Scream mastermind Kevin Williamson, which, like many others, has ridden the coattails of Taylor Sheridan's Yellowstone and found fair success on streaming.

Starring the likes of Holt McCallany, Maria Bello, Melissa Benoist, and more alongside Grace, that series debuted and shot straight to the top of Netflix’s global viewership rankings, helping plenty of the main ensemble, including Grace, receive even further-reaching notoriety. In doing so, some have dived deeper into Grace's filmography to find similar performances in dramas with just as many thrills and spills, including the forgotten 2011 thriller The Double, which also starred the likes of Richard Gere, Stephen Moyer, and Martin Sheen.

Melissa Benoist Met Her Husband Thanks to CW’s Supergirl
Image
Melissa Benoist’s love life really proved the phrase ‘After a hurricane comes a rainbow.’ After being in a traumatizing, toxic marriage with Blake Jenner, she seems to have found true love with Chris Wood, her current husband. And, surprisingly enough, she met him on the sets of CW’s Supergirl – the very show that made her a household name in Hollywood.

While Benoist joined the series as the titular DC superheroine aka Kara Zor-El, Wood played her love interest, Mon-El, onscreen. And this onscreen chemistry between their characters ostensibly melted down to offscreen ‘true love’ between the actors as well.

In 2016, when they first met, Benoist was still married to Jenner. However, she filed for divorce the same year, which was finalized in 2017 (per People). Wood, on the other hand, was linked to Hanna Mangan-Lawrence at the time.

The Waterfront Secretly Mirrors That 71%-Rated Classic And It’s Wild No One’s Noticing
Image
In the brimming world of crime dramas, it’s rare to find a show that eerily mirrors another cult-classic DNA without being an exact replica. But The Waterfront, Netflix’s latest addition to the genre, seems to be doing just that- quietly reflecting the haunting legacy of Showtime’s 71% rated Dexter.

In just a few days of its release, fans have already started to draw parallels when it comes to the back stories of both the show’s leads. And honestly? The similarity is striking- yet surprisingly under-discussed. Could Dexter’s chilling origin story now have a compelling contender? Or has The Waterfront tried to pay a subtle homage? Or is it all just a big coincidence? Let’s dive into what makes the new show feel so similar to one of our favorites.

Netflix’s ‘Yellowstone’ Replacement Tumbles Down Streaming Charts Thanks to Final Season of Platform’s Most Popular Show Ever
Image
Netflix's latest attempt to replicate the explosive success of Taylor Sheridan's Yellowstone has already hit a major speed bump. The Waterfront, created by Scream mastermind Kevin Williamson and starring Holt McCallany, Maria Bello, Melissa Benoist, and Topher Grace, debuted impressively. But now, Netflix’s blockbuster Yellowstone replacement appears to be sinking fast—blamed squarely on the premiere of Squid Game Season 3, which has reclaimed the top spot on the charts.

Upon its June 23 release, The Waterfront skyrocketed to #1 on Netflix’s global viewership rankings. The eight-episode series follows a North Carolina fishing dynasty struggling to survive—a family legacy drama steeped in betrayal, power, and economic pressures—intended to scratch that Yellowstone-style itch.

Critically, it was met with lukewarm reception: 64% on Rotten Tomatoes from critics and 71% from audiences. Collider’s Samuel Murrian even dubbed it “one of this year’s best shows,” cautious to note that it could...

Is Melissa Benoist Really Blake Lively’s Look Alike in Hollywood?
Image
Fans are convinced Blake Lively has a long-lost twin in Tinseltown, and it is none other than Supergirl, Melissa Benoist. For years, the two highly successful women have come up when conversations are about Hollywood look-alikes, and we definitely see some resemblance.

While the similarities aren’t blinding, it is easy to mistake one for another if you aren’t really paying attention. From Benoist‘s blonde locks era to their similar-sounding voices, there are a few instances where the two actresses look like each other.

This might prompt a question about Benoist and Lively’s relationship with each other, but despite what it may seem like to some, the two are not related in any way or form. Apart from their physical likeness, especially when in similar hairstyles, the two actresses don’t show up on each other’s family trees.

James Gunn Addresses Supergirl's Dcu Backstory: "She's Kind Of A Mess"
Image
DC Studios' James Gunn explains what makes Milly Alcock's Kara Zor-El so different in Supergirl, compared to past interpretations of the DC hero. Craig Gillespie's Supergirl movie is set to establish the titular Kryptonian hero as one of the Dcu's main foundations. Instead of presenting Kara Zor-El as Superman's upbeat cousin on Earth, Supergirl will follow Kara as she fights her own battles far off in space.

In an interview with ComicBook, DC Studios head and Superman director James Gunn acknowledges the Dcu's Supergirl has a much different origin to previous live-action iterations of the hero. Gunn explains that living on Krypton's remains have made Milly Alcock's Supergirl "kind of a mess" compared to Superman. Gunn says that flashbacks to Krypton in Supergirl are "always a possibility," but suggests the heart of the story is in how Krypton's destruction shaped Kara Zor-El. Check out Gunn's full comments:

“[Flashbacks to Krypton are] always a possibility.

Matthew Goode’s 87%-Rated Netflix Show Leaves Love Island USA and Star Wars in Dust

If there’s anything more satisfying than watching hot people argue over who ‘vibed’ the most, it’s watching Matthew Goode solve grizzly murders under Edinburgh fog with more finesse than a cat burglar in church shoes. With Scott Frank and Chandni Lakhani steering the adaptation, Netflix’s Dept. With a rock-solid 87% on Rotten Tomatoes, that’s no crumb of praise for a moody detective drama. That’s a full-course applause. Meanwhile, Kevin Williamson’s The Waterfront has also entered the top 10 Netflix list with 8.3 million views, promising more dark family drama to come.

A Crime Thriller Series From The Creator Of Scream Is Blowing Up On Netflix
Image
There are two sides to writer-director Kevin Williamson, depending on what your tastes are. If you're a horror enthusiast, you'll certainly know him for co-creating the "Scream" franchise and writing several of its movies, in addition to penning 1997's "I Know What You Did Last Summer" and 2022's underrated Covid-19 slasher flick "Sick." If slashers are a little too scary for you, however, then you may recognize Williamson as the creator of the TV shows "Dawson's Creek" and "The Vampire Diaries," both of which were era-defining melodramas that captured the zeitgeist.

These two halves might sound like they're diametrically opposed to each other, but both genres are categorized by their soap opera-style ingredients. The crucial difference is whether you hope to see the characters fall in love or kill each other. Now, with Williamson's newest show "The Waterfront," you get both, which may be the reason why the series has...

Maria Bello, Holt McCallany, Jake Weary, and Melissa Benoist in The Waterfront (2025)
Has ‘The Waterfront’ on Netflix been renewed for Season 2? Here’s what we know!
Maria Bello, Holt McCallany, Jake Weary, and Melissa Benoist in The Waterfront (2025)
Netflix’s The Waterfront, a gritty family-crime drama led by Kevin Williamson, had viewers hooked with its first season. Set in a struggling coastal town, it explores the moral decay of a powerful fishing family as they drift deeper into the drug underworld. But now that The Waterfront Season 1 is out, the big question is—will there be a Season 2? In this article, we’re diving into the show’s renewal status, what happened last season, what we can expect next, who’s returning (and who’s not), and when we might see new episodes.

Will there be a Season 2 of The Waterfront?

Officially, Netflix hasn’t greenlit Season 2 yet. But Kevin Williamson has made it clear—Season 2 is already outlined, and he’s thinking beyond that too. He’s reportedly mapped out a three-season arc. If the current viewership numbers and critical attention keep up, a renewal feels like only a matter of time.

The Waterfront Review: Kevin Williamson’s Return to Murky Family Waters
Image
Kevin Williamson’s return to television feels less like a homecoming and more like an archaeological dig—one where the creator of Dawson’s Creek and the Scream franchise excavates his own family’s buried secrets. The Waterfront, his eight-episode Netflix drama, emerges from the specific crucible of Williamson’s North Carolina childhood, where his fisherman father supplemented dwindling catches with contraband runs during the Reagan-era economic squeeze of the 1980s.

The fictional coastal town of Havenport becomes a pressure cooker of generational trauma, where the Buckley family operates as both regional aristocracy and criminal enterprise. Patriarch Harlan (Holt McCallany), nursing his second heart attack and nth glass of whiskey, presides over a seafood empire that includes the requisite legitimate businesses—fishery, marina, restaurant—and the less advertised drug smuggling operation.

His wife Belle (Maria Bello) manages the visible empire while Harlan courts death through various forms of excess. Their children...

The Waterfront Reveals Why Bree Actually Hates Cane In Episode 4
Image
Netflix's The Waterfront Episode 4 revealed why Bree Buckley hated her younger brother, Cane, all these years, and there is a deeper reason. As the eldest Buckley daughter, Bree has had a tumultuous journey in the eight-episode family drama series. The Waterfront began in the middle of Bree's sobriety journey while she attempts to reconnect with her son, Diller. However, as the season progressed, it was clear that Bree had a longstanding rift with Cane that blew their brother-sister dynamic apart.

Created by Kevin Williamson (Dawson Creek), The Waterfront follows the story of the Buckley family as they decide to be involved in drug-smuggling due to struggling with their legitimate fishery business. The series boasts an incredible cast led by Holt McCallany as Harlan, Maria Bello as Belle, Supergirl star and Arrowverse alum Melissa Benoist as Bree, Jake Weary as Cane, Danielle Campbell as Peyton, Brady Hepner as Diller, and Topher Grace as Grady.

If you’ve opened your Netflix account since last Friday, you’ll notice that a new title has zoomed to the top of the top 10 TV list. That show is The Waterfront, a family crime drama that comes from the mind of none other than Kevin Williamson. Of course, genre fans will know that name from his work with the Scream series, with him actually now in the midst of directing the seventh film, which reunites him with original star Neve Campbell. Yet, Williamson has arguably been even more successful as a showrunner, with a string of hits that include Dawson’s Creek, The Vampire Diaries, and more.

Netflix’s New ‘Yellowstone’ Dupe Is a Streaming Hit Despite 64% Rotten Tomatoes Score
Image
It isn't unheard of for the film and television industries to manufacture success. With the introduction of algorithm-driven programming in recent years, it makes perfect sense for Netflix to try and replicate the sheer virality of Taylor Sheridan's franchise-spawning series Yellowstone. The streamer famously passed on the series when it was first being shopped around, and has spent at least a couple of years trying to create something that might appeal to its massive audience. The latest in this assembly line of shows is The Waterfront. Starring Holt McCallany in the lead role, the series jumped straight to the top of Netflix's viewership charts upon release last week.

According to FlixPatrol, The Waterfront earned 733 points on June 23, ranking first on Netflix. It beat out the holdover hit Sirens, and the more recent Dept. Q. The Waterfront also outperformed the latest seasons of Ginny & Georgia and Fubar. The show...

‘Supergirl’ Star, 36, Shares Support for Milly Alcock Ahead of James Gunn’s First Dcu Movie
Image
A slightly lesser known but possibly stronger recent series of DC Comics adaptations before James Gunn's Dcu hits theaters was the Arrowverse on The CW. It began with Arrow, which was a take on Oliver Queen/The Green Arrow, played by Stephen Amell. Another series was Supergirl, starring Melissa Benoist as Kara Danvers/Supergirl. In a recent interview with WatchMojo, Benoist shared her thoughts about the upcoming installments of the Dcu, including Gunn's take on Supergirl with Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, starring Milly Alcock. She told WatchMojo:

"Yeah, of course I'll support! Once you've donned the glyph, you're part of a very small club of people that has worn capes. So it always feels special when any iteration of the story and the canon comes to life, so I will be there to support. Is Milly Alcock supposed to be in this James Gunn [movie]? I don't know... I'm...

Image
The legendary Kevin Williamson gives fans an idea of what to expect in The Waterfront's hotly-anticipated (yet unconfirmed) second season.

Speaking to TV Line, series creator and showrunner Kevin Williamson (best known for creating Scream) gave fans an idea of what they can expect from each of the series' main players, assuming The Waterfront returns for a second season, that is. While Williamson confirmed that Topher Grace's Grady won't be making a surprise comeback after being shot twice, the main cast of Holt McCallany's Harlan Buckley, Danielle Campbell's Peyton Buckley, Maria Bello's Belle Buckley, Melissa Benoist's Bree Buckley, and Jake Weary's Cane Buckley all have some particularly long roads ahead of them.

Regarding the relationship between family patriarch Harlan and his son Cane, Williamson said, "I don’t think they’ve gotten to the core answer of who they are to each other as father and son,...

James Gunn's DC Reboot Confirmed to Include 8 Arrowverse Heroes
Image
James Gunn's Dcu Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters is confirmed to include at least eight DC heroes who will be introduced as new versions after being part of the Arrowverse on The CW. The Arrowverse served as DC's small-screen branch for over a decade after successfully launching a shared universe anchored by Stephen Amell's Green Arrow, Grant Gustin's Flash, and Melissa Benoist's Supergirl.

The Arrowverse featured many iconic moments, such as epic crossover events like the Crisis on Infinite Earths storyline (which even included a special cameo from Ezra Miller's Flash from the DC Extended Universe). After the Arrowverse ended with Superman & Lois in 2024, a brand-new reboot under James Gunn and Peter Safran will usher in an exciting era of fresh stories that began with Creature Commandos and will continue in the David Corenswet-led Superman movie.

Netflix's New Crime Drama From Scream & Dawson's Creek Creator Debuts With Decent Rotten Tomatoes Score
Image
Netflix's new drama, The Waterfront, has officially debuted with a respectable score on the review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes. A crime drama focusing on a family that leads a fishing empire, the show stars Holt McCallany (Harlan Buckley), Maria Bello (Belle Buckley), Jake Weary (Cane Buckley), Melissa Benoist (Bree Buckley), and even features Topher Grace in a guest role. The Waterfront's expansive cast is not its only draw, as it was also created by Scream, The Vampire Diaries, and Dawson's Creek creator Kevin Williamson.

Williamson's newest show has already proven to entertain critics and audiences, though audiences have been far more favorable. While the Rotten Tomatoes score is subject to change as more reviews come in, The Waterfront has a 67% Tomatometer score and an 81% Popcornmeter score. The average viewer offered a 4 out of 5 rating, which is an impressive showing, though the score and the average are each based on...

The Waterfront’s Cast Is So Randomly Iconic It Has No Business Being This Loaded
Image
Netflix has just released The Waterfront, and the series has been an interesting experience for viewers. Following in the footsteps of the Emmy-winning masterpiece, Ozark, the show seems to have similar themes in a completely different manner. While Jason Bateman’s series (which he almost looked over) follows themes of suburban decay, The Waterfront focuses more on the tensions that come with living in a small town.

Following a family with a crumbling empire in North Carolina, the series brings so much more to the idea of getting one’s hands dirty because of necessity. With such complex themes, it is interesting to know that the series has had an even more complicated release, despite its stacked cast.

Mindhunter Star's New Netflix Crime Show Tops the Streaming Charts After Just 1 Day
Image
The latest series starring Mindhunter's Holt McCallany has become a certified streaming sensation only one day after release.

Per Flix Patrol, Netflix's The Waterfront, which premiered on June 19, has already risen to the number one spot on the Top 10 Streaming Series in the United States. Throughout the rest of the week starting on June 16, that same spot was held by Ginny & Georgia, which released its hotly anticipated third season on June 5.

Created by Scream creator Kevin Williamson, who also serves as showrunner on the fast fan-favorite crime drama, The Waterfront stars McCallany as Harlan Buckley, the patriarch of the well-known if objectively dysfunctional Buckley family. Although the family's fishing empire made them the most prominent, not to mention wealthiest family in the fictional seaside town of Havenport, North Carolina, dwindling returns and other financial woes have seen them run their coffers nearly dry. As such, the Buckleys decide...

Netflix's Latest 'Yellowstone' Copy Met with Rotten Tomatoes Rating Much Lower Than Taylor Sheridan's Saga
Image
Another day, another Yellowstone knockoff. Netflix’s new drama The Waterfront arrived this week looking like it had just walked off the set of Ozark, borrowed Yellowstone’s boots, and tried to convince us it had invented both. But while Taylor Sheridan’s Montana-set megahit earned its 83% Rotten Tomatoes score the old-fashioned way — by building a richly textured world over five bloody seasons — The Waterfront debuted with a much murkier 67%, and critics are already calling it out for what it is: Netflix by numbers.

Created by Scream and Dawson’s Creek scribe Kevin Williamson, The Waterfront follows the Buckley family, owners of a North Carolina fishery with a long history of shady side hustles. But despite the pedigree and a stacked cast led by Holt McCallany (The Iron Claw), Maria Bello (Beef), Melissa Benoist (Supergirl), Brady Hepner (The Black Phone), Jake Weary (Trigger Warning), Rafael L. Silva (9-1-1:...

After 'That '90s Show' Flopped, Topher Grace Is Finding Success on Netflix's New Drama
Image
Netflix has a new hit topping the streaming charts, and it features a familiar face. After previously reprising his role as Eric Foreman in the ill-fated sequel seriesThat '90s Show, Topher Grace is back on the platform in a guest-starring capacity for the new crime drama series The Waterfront, hailing from Scream veteran Kevin Williamson. Following its launch on Thursday, the show soared to #1 in the U.S. among the streamer's television series, topping, among other things, the recent third season of Ginny & Georgia and the second season of Shane Gillis's Tires. Critics have been a bit mixed on the story of a fishing empire-turned-drug business with a 67% Rotten Tomatoes score, but that hasn't stopped viewers from immediately flocking to the waters.

The Waterfront stars Holt McCallany as the patriarch of the dysfunctional Buckley family, a spiritual successor of sorts to the Byrdes of Ozark. With their long-standing domination over Havenport,...

Kevin Williamson Talks ‘The Waterfront’ Finale and Insane Childhood That Informed Netflix Series
Image
[This story contains Major spoilers from the season finale of The Waterfront.]

Kevin Williamson had a crazy childhood — and not all of it was captured on Dawson’s Creek. For starters, the creek was not shark-infested waters.

Netflix’s The Waterfront takes the drug-smuggling aspect of Williamson’s youth up a few notches. It also features a tremendous heel turn by Topher Grace (That ‘70s Show). The rest of the cast, which also includes Holt McCallany, Melissa Benoist, Jake Weary, Maria Bello and Dave Annable, among others, are quite capable as well.

The Waterfront sees the Buckleys, a successful and affluent coastal North Carolina family on the brink of losing it all, turn to drug-running. As can happen with smuggling, violence follows — a lot of violence. The biggest bang comes in the season finale; if you don’t want to be spoiled, stop reading right here.

For the rest of you, our Q&a with Williamson is below.

‘The Waterfront’ Creator Breaks Down Cane’s Deadly Finale Decision, Season 2 Hopes
Image
Note: This story contains spoilers from “The Waterfront” Episode 8.

“The Waterfront” charted the Buckley family’s chaotic return to criminal activity, setting the stage for a deadly finale in which Cane crossed a moral line and Belle secured more power.

After the shaky alliance between Buckley patriarch Harlan (Holt McCallany) and drug tycoon Grady (Topher Grace) went up in flames in Episode 7, leading to Grady kidnapping Bree (Melissa Benoist), the finale followed the rescue operation to save her — as other members of the family made big moves for power.

Though there were some dire turns, “Lost at Sea” saw Cane (Jake Weary), Shawn (Rafael L. Silva) and Harlan successfully save Bree — and to everyone’s surprise, Diller (Brady Hepner), who’d stowed away in the captor’s boat to help his mother. Though Bree was shot and thrown to the sea before the rest of the family could come to her rescue,...

‘The Waterfront’ Netflix Review: A Familiar Crime Drama Elevated By Excellent Performances
Image
Crime dramas centered around families are now a dime a dozen. The most popular show of this year so far has been MobLand, which focused on the feud between the Harrigans and the Stevensons and how the former’s fixer, Harry Da Souza, mediated the whole affair before deciding to do what was best for the hand that fed him. Then there was Hound’s Hill, which showed the patriarch of the Glowackis cleaning his town up so as to satiate his desire of being a Godfather-esque figure. The Penguin, the most acclaimed miniseries of 2024, took us into the seedy underbelly of Gotham to chart Oz Cobb’s rise as he made the most of the ongoing feud between the Falcones and the Maronis. From Down Under, we got Territory, which was all about the Lawsons defending their farm by hook or by crook as all the enemies they had made...
