Jim Mainard serves as Head of Digital Strategy and New Business Development for DreamWorks Animation. His responsibilities include setting the digital strategy for, and fostering and developing new businesses in, the rapidly evolving digital landscape. Prior to this, Jim was the executive responsible for the transition of the Studio to 3D (stereoscopic) filmmaking. He has previously served as both Head of Production Development and Head of Research and Development and was responsible for establishing and delivering the strategic vision for the software tools used to produce its computer generated films. He joined the DreamWorks team as a system engineer in 1997 and was responsible for the creation of the animation tools for the studio's first feature film, The Prince of Egypt.
Jim made the transition to the entertainment industry after spending 13 years in the field of Aerospace. Prior to joining DreamWorks, Jim worked as a Senior Systems Engineer at TRW for the Hubble Space Telescope Ground Station. Among many roles during his tenure at TRW, Jim redesigned tactical mapping software relied upon by the U.S. Army and Navy and was principle in the creation and establishment of the Tactical Aircraft Mission Planning System (TAMPS) used in all fixed and rotary wing aircrafts.
Jim is a founder & former Chairman of the Advanced Imaging Society, has served on the Industry Advisory Counsel for California Polytechnic (SLO) Computer Science, serves on the Board of Directors for JumpStart, and is a graduate of the University of Southern California.
Jim was born and raised in San Diego and has lived most of his life in Southern California.
