As is the practice each year with the Government of Maharashtra selecting Marathi cinema for the Cannes’ Marche Du film, the Official selection for this prestigious section this year is Bittersweet, the hard-hitting drama of the emotional dilemma of women sugarcane workers in interior Maharashtra.

Bittersweet, produced by Suchhanda Chatterjee and Shubha Shetty of Quest Films had its world premiere at the Busan International Festival where it was an official selection. The film received rave reviews in Screen International which called it 'a conversation starter of a picture' and praised the debutante actress Akshaya Gurav for her performance as the protagonist.

Bittersweet is written and directed by Ananth Narayan Mahadevan who was overwhelmed by the headline in a prominent newspaper 'Beed: a village of women without wombs' that urged him to investigate and film the story on actual location, using real sugarcane cutters along with prominent Marathi actors Suresh Vishwakarma,...

The trailer of the hardhitting film Bittersweet released on Tuesday. Directed by Ananth Mahadevan, the film has been selected for screening at the Busan International Film Festival this year.

"The trailer was a challenge as this subject had never been dealt with before on screen. The launch of the trailer today expectedly brought in a huge viewership and some overwhelming reactions, both for the concept and the visual treatment of a burning topic," claimed Mahadevan.

Set in Beed in Maharashtra, the Marathi language film focuses on the inhumane condition of female sugarcane cutters who often go through hysterectomy surgery so that they can get rid off their menstrual cycle and avoid the 'period leave' and salary cut. The film huighlights how the whole process is ruining the biological cycle of many women in the district.

Titled "Bittersweet", Mahadevan's new film has been nominated in the Competition section of the prestigious film fest that will take place between October 21 and October 30 this year.

Boney Kapoor's superhit laugh riot No Entry, directed by Anees Bazmee, is now being remade in Marathi as No Entry -Pudhe Dhoka Aahey. The film will be produced under the banner Underground Films Pvt. Ltd and will be directed by Milind Arun Kavde.

Top Marathi stars Bharat Jadhav, Ankush Choudhari, Kranti Redkar, Sai Tamhankar, Aniket Vishwasrao, Sai Lokur, Manava Naik and Paddy Kambli have been signed to play the lead roles that had been essayed by Anil Kapoor, Salman Khan, Lara Dutta Bipasha Basu, Fardeen Khan, Esha Deol, Celina Jaitley and others in the Hindi version.

The music for this laugh riot will composed by Sargam Nakash and Guru Thakur is the lyricist. The principal shooting of the film will begin in May 2012 in the exotic locations of Goa and Mumbai.
