- Lu Johnson was born in the small town of Plymouth, Indiana, the son of writer/columnist Russell W. 'Bill' Johnson and singer/model Carol A. Johnson. At age 7, along with his two younger sisters, Andrea and Monica, he began his acting career as a voice-over artist in a production for a locally produced touring puppet show.
The call of the stage continued through Lu's high school years, and he landed the lead role in Mary Chase's "Harvey".
