When Chilean filmmaker Patricio Valladares shuffler their mortal coil I swear they will die with a camera held in one hand and the other gripping the keyboard for a editing bay. They will die in the midst of making a movie, or, if he stops making movies. We hadn't thought of that until we started writing this article. Maybe if he stops making movies he will die? Gasp. Perish the thought. Valladares has passed along word that they're finishing their next film, a crime action comedy called PerKings. Along with that word comes a trio of stills and the official poster. That poster below was designed by none other than Omar Hauksson, alumni of the ScreenAnarchy family. Valladares will no doubt keep us...

During the boom boom times our friends at Suspenso in Chile held virtual versions of their genre festival. Headed up by the prolific Chilean filmmaker Patricio Valladares the festival also hosted SupsenoLAB, a co-production hub for local filmmakers. One of the filmmakers who took part in the program in 2020 was Carlos Thanax (Carlos Vergara Villarroel) and their project, Justicia Paranormal. We did not have any details about the projects back then but the idea took flight, got the backing it needed to head into production and here we are, ready to premiere the first trailer for the supernatural thriller. Along with the premiere of the first trailer Thanax has also sent along a small gallery of production and behind the scenes production...

Now on its fourth year, the Santiago Film Festival’s Morbido-Sanfic Lab features an ever more diverse selection from Ibero-America.
As Morbido founder-ceo Pablo Guisa said of this year’s edition: “It has projects from multiple countries, several produced or directed by women as well as one LGBTQ-themed project and, for the first time, a documentary.” Vampire creatures abound in this crop.
Humberto Mazari, the helmer-scribe-producer behind one of the six projects, psychological thriller “The Alaska Summit” (“La Cumbre de Alaska),” is developing three comic book spinoffs which will further delve into the underworld of the summit and the creatures that guard it. “In the coming weeks we expect to consolidate the visual aesthetics with three Latin American illustrators in charge of bringing these comic books to life,” he told Variety.

‘Invoking Yell’ – Welcome Villain Films Acquires Worldwide Rights to Black Metal Found Footage Movie
Patricio Valladares, director of Hidden in the Woods and Nightworld, is back with Invoking Yell, which has just been acquired by Welcome Villain Films (Malum).
The news was first reported by Screen Daily this afternoon. No word yet on when Welcome Villain will be releasing the film here in the States, but we’ll keep you posted.
Valladares tells the site, “This film was always meant to be an ode to the found footage films of the 90’s, but with a black metal twist. I’m a big fan of The Blair Witch Project and many other found footage films from that era, and I am also a metalhead, so the subject matter came easy to me. It is incredibly exciting to be teaming up with the amazing group at Welcome Villain to release this special film to the world. We couldn’t be happier with this partnership.”

How far would you be willing to go to become famous? This is the question a group of three twentysomething women ask themselves when they decide to form a black metal band in Chile in the late 1990s. The band calls themselves Invoking Yell and plans a trip to a remote location in the wilderness to work on their demo tape, hoping to capture electronic voice phenomenon (EVPs) to give their music a unique sound. While alone in the middle of nowhere, what starts out as playful competition among the women becomes something much darker and more dangerous, making Invoking Yell a chilling, intensely unnerving experience.
Written by Barry Keating (Killer Mermaid) and Patricio Valladares (En las Afueras De la Ciudad) and directed by Valladares, Invoking Yell is shot VHS found footage style and has an authentic 1990s feel, from denim jackets to the camera and recording equipment used by the band.

This snuck up on us but our friends at Suspenso in Chile are preparing for their third annual festival and lab. Run by director Patricio Valladares the event will run online this coming week, from the 25th through the 28th. Chile - at least parts where my friends are - is still under a strict lockdown during this time of Covid, but at least the festival is able to provide something this year. There will be online screenings of Antrum, Adrian Garcia Bogliano's Dark Circle, Juan Martínez Moreno's horror comedy Game of Werewolves, wacky Argentine omnibus Terror 5, a rep screeing of the 1989 film Violent Shit from German filmmaker Andreas Schnaas, and two films from Belgian director Jaco Van Dormael:...

Blood Window, Argentina’s rapidly growing Latin American genre film market, part of Buenos Aires’ Ventana Sur meet-mart, will hold a showcase at Cannes Festival’s Cannes Film Market from March 11 – 14.
Seven works in progress, currently in post-production, will be presented as part of Upcoming Fantastic Films, where ten-minute clips will accompany the presentations. Three finished films will also screen, aimed at representing the best of recent genre Latin American genre filmmaking, with two more participating in the Market Screenings.
Although Blood Window’s beginnings are steeped in blood and gore, the current body of films representing the market goes far beyond the traditional slasher flicks Latin America has nearly perfected, with films of fantasy, science fiction and a slew of different thrillers now participating – an indication of the festival’s maturation and growth.

If there is one thing that you cannot blame Chilean director Patricio Valladares of being, it is being lazy. Valladares is hard at work on creating a new Sci-fi/Horror mini series called Embryo, plugging away at the pilot. He has sent over a trio of images for us to share with you, which you will find below. Embryo is a deliriously twisted tale of alien insemination, cannibalism and love that tells the story of Kevin and his girlfriend Evelyn, who, while camping out in the woods in the Chile countryside is abducted and impregnated by otherworldly beings. As the entity inside her begins to grow at a rapid rate, Evelyn discovers that the cravings she’s experiencing can only be satiated by the taste of...

Chilean director Patricio Valladares has been busy. He has a handful of movies currently in production and two others scheduled for release this year one of which is Nightworld which feels very much like something that spawned from the mind of Stephen King or Clive Barker.
Nightworld stars Jason London as a retired Lapd officer who takes on a job as a security monitor in an old apartment building in Bulgaria's capital. Shortly after taking on the job, he starts to experience unexplained events and as he begins a deep dive into the history of the building, it quickly becomes apparent that something sinister is afloat. "What do you keep back there, King Kong?" Gravitas Ventures has unveiled a trailer for an indie horror thriller film titled Nightworld, from Chilean director Patricio Valladares. The story follows a former Lapd officer who gets a night security job at an old apartment building in Bulgaria's capital, Sofia. But he soon discovers the building has a "malevolent force nestled deep in the bowels" that wants to break free and enter our world. Jason London stars (and he looks a lot like Greg Kinnear), along with horror icon Robert Englund, plus Gianni Capaldi, Lorina Kamburova, Diana Lyubenova, and Atanas Srebrev. This really doesn't look that great, but maybe that's just me. The big door is the coolest part about it. See below. As the camera swoops over a chilly boreal wilderness, and Luc Suarez’s brooding music evokes an air of intrigue and menace, it seems like we’re onto a winner. And look, there’s Robert Englund in the credits! That’s a sign of quality, right?
Jason London plays Brett Anderson – an ex-cop rather than an ex-Suede frontman – who is having nightmares about his dead wife, Ana (Diana Lyubenova). So naturally he moves to the Bulgarian capital Sofia and becomes a security camera operative in a creepy basement. A man named Martin (Gianni Capaldi) runs the building on behalf of a shadowy organisation.
