Patricio Valladares, director of Hidden in the Woods and Nightworld, has unleashed the trailer for his black metal horror movie Invoking Yell, and you can check out the exclusive new trailer and poster below.

Welcome Villain Films releases the ’90s set found footage horror movie on Digital on September 20, 2024.

Invoking Yell follows “a trio of metalhead twenty-something girls who venture into the woods to shoot the demo tape for their black metal band, Invoking Yell. However, things take a sinister turn as they document their disturbing and unorthodox process of recording paranormal phenomena to be used in the album’s final track.”

Maria Jesus Marcone, Macarena Carrere, and Andrea Ozuljevich star in Invoking Yell.

Valladares and Barry Keating, whose credits include Downhill, wrote the screenplay.

The film is co-produced by Vallastudio Films and Moral Bros Entertainment. Diego Moral Heimpell is the executive producer. Vittorio Farfan and Valladares serve as producers.

Production has wrapped in Chile on Vallastudio Films’ horror Tide’s Gift from Patricio Valladares, the filmmaker behind last year’s found-footage horror Invoking Yell and Hidden In The Woods.

Tide’s Gift (Lo Que Trajo la Marea) shot in Cobquecura in the Ñuble Region in southern Chile and follows two sisters who visit a beach after their mother’s funeral, only for one of them to begin to act strangely after she is nearly swept away by a current.

During the boom boom times our friends at Suspenso in Chile held virtual versions of their genre festival. Headed up by the prolific Chilean filmmaker Patricio Valladares the festival also hosted SupsenoLAB, a co-production hub for local filmmakers.    One of the filmmakers who took part in the program in 2020 was Carlos Thanax (Carlos Vergara Villarroel) and their project, Justicia Paranormal. Now on its fourth year, the Santiago Film Festival’s Morbido-Sanfic Lab features an ever more diverse selection from Ibero-America.

As Morbido founder-ceo Pablo Guisa said of this year’s edition: “It has projects from multiple countries, several produced or directed by women as well as one LGBTQ-themed project and, for the first time, a documentary.” Vampire creatures abound in this crop.

The new genre studio Welcome Villain Films have announced that they’ve acquired the distribution rights to the Chilean found footage horror film Invoking Yell, which has been getting a lot of positive attention while making the festival rounds.

Directed by Patricio Valladares, who also wrote the screenplay with Barry Keating, Invoking Yell is set in Chile in 1997. The film is said to be a love letter to black metal that follows a trio of metalhead twenty-something girls who venture into the woods to shoot the demo tape for their black metal band, Invoking Yell. However, things take a sinister turn as they document their disturbing and unorthodox process of recording paranormal phenomena to be used in the album’s final track.

Patricio Valladares, director of Hidden in the Woods and Nightworld, is back with Invoking Yell, which has just been acquired by Welcome Villain Films (Malum).

The news was first reported by Screen Daily this afternoon. No word yet on when Welcome Villain will be releasing the film here in the States, but we’ll keep you posted.

Valladares tells the site, “This film was always meant to be an ode to the found footage films of the 90’s, but with a black metal twist. I’m a big fan of The Blair Witch Project and many other found footage films from that era, and I am also a metalhead, so the subject matter came easy to me. It is incredibly exciting to be teaming up with the amazing group at Welcome Villain to release this special film to the world. We couldn’t be happier with this partnership.”

The new Los Angeles-based genre company will distribute the film, its first Spanish-language acquisition, in the US and handle international sales.

How far would you be willing to go to become famous? This is the question a group of three twentysomething women ask themselves when they decide to form a black metal band in Chile in the late 1990s. The band calls themselves Invoking Yell and plans a trip to a remote location in the wilderness to work on their demo tape, hoping to capture electronic voice phenomenon (EVPs) to give their music a unique sound. While alone in the middle of nowhere, what starts out as playful competition among the women becomes something much darker and more dangerous, making Invoking Yell a chilling, intensely unnerving experience.

Written by Barry Keating (Killer Mermaid) and Patricio Valladares (En las Afueras De la Ciudad) and directed by Valladares, Invoking Yell is shot VHS found footage style and has an authentic 1990s feel, from denim jackets to the camera and recording equipment used by the band.

Exclusive: Germany’s Redrum Films Productions is to back Cannibal Holidays, a new project from Chilean genre filmmaker Patricio Valladares.

The synopsis for Embryo only really explains a hint of the film even if it seems to give away quite a lot. It explains that the movie follows a couple who while camping are abducted by aliens and woman, Evelyn is impregnated. Since that abduction she is having cravings for human flesh.

Genre festival has set a new opening film after cancelling its physical edition.

UK genre festival Frightfest has extended its programme and set a new opening film for this year’s edition after deciding to move the event online.

The festival was due to take place in London from October 22-25, opening with South Korean zombie thriller Train To Busan Presents: Peninsula, but was cancelled as a result of the pandemic.

Festfest 2020 will now take place virtually across the same dates, opening with the world premiere of US horror Held, directed by Chris Lofing and Travis Cluff, the filmmaking duo behind The Gallows franchise.

Chilean director Patricio Valladares has been busy. He has a handful of movies currently in production and two others scheduled for release this year one of which is Nightworld which feels very much like something that spawned from the mind of Stephen King or Clive Barker.

Nightworld stars Jason London as a retired Lapd officer who takes on a job as a security monitor in an old apartment building in Bulgaria's capital. Shortly after taking on the job, he starts to experience unexplained events and as he begins a deep dive into the history of the building, it quickly becomes apparent that something sinister is afloat. "What do you keep back there, King Kong?" Gravitas Ventures has unveiled a trailer for an indie horror thriller film titled Nightworld, from Chilean director Patricio Valladares. The story follows a former Lapd officer who gets a night security job at an old apartment building in Bulgaria's capital, Sofia. But he soon discovers the building has a "malevolent force nestled deep in the bowels" that wants to break free and enter our world. Jason London stars (and he looks a lot like Greg Kinnear), along with horror icon Robert Englund, plus Gianni Capaldi, Lorina Kamburova, Diana Lyubenova, and Atanas Srebrev. Jason London plays Brett Anderson – an ex-cop rather than an ex-Suede frontman – who is having nightmares about his dead wife, Ana (Diana Lyubenova). So naturally he moves to the Bulgarian capital Sofia and becomes a security camera operative in a creepy basement. A man named Martin (Gianni Capaldi) runs the building on behalf of a shadowy organisation. Exclusive: Horror veteran Robert Englund stars in tale of cursed apartment block.

Gravitas Ventures has acquired Us rights from Vmi Wordwide to paranormal thriller Nightworld starring Robert Englund.

Chilean genre auteur Patricio Valladares, whose credits include Hidden In The Woods and Downhill, directed the film, which shot on location in Sofia, Bulgaria.

Open Frames produced Nightworld, which also stars Jason London and centres on a former Lapd officer who takes a job as head of security at an old apartment building.

When he begins to experience bizarre and terrifying events, the watchman investigates the building’s shadowy owners and past employees, uncovering a malevolent force waiting to erupt.

Englund will be familiar to genre fans as the face of Freddy Krueger, the nemesis from the Nightmare On Elm Street series.

Valladares is in the throes of launching the Suspense! Co-Producer Network set to take place in Concepcion in July.

Patricio Valladares, the Chilean director of Hidden In The Woods and Downhill, and producer Francisco Inostroza are among a coterie of professionals behind next month’s inaugural Suspense! Co-Producer Network.

The event for aspiring genre filmmakers will take place from July 26-28 in Concepcion, Chile, when filmmakers can pitch industry professionals and participate in one-on-one meetings.

The schedule includes round-table networking for producers without a project, panels addressing new trends in genre cinema, and social events.

Three projects will receive co-production deals at a follow-up event in September when judges will consider 10 finallists selected from July.

Valladares (pictured) is on board as industry director and his launch collaborators include Inostroza, Working Place CEO Ricardo Campos, and Luis Aguirre España, CEO of national agency Concepcion Crea y Produce (Ccp).

Partners include Corfo, Working Place, Ccp, government body Comité de Desarrollo Productivo Regional, and Carriel Sur Pictures.

Exclusive: Chilean genre master Patricio Valladares is in early talks with potential Us and European co-producers on a feature based on indigenous myth.

The Trülke wekufü is a grotesque creature of Mapuche legend said to inhabit lakes, lagoons and rivers in Chile’s Bío Bío region.

Made from the skin of several different animals and exhibiting tentacles where the head should be, the beast hunts animals and on occasion humans and sucks dry any prey unfortunate enough to cross its path (concept art pictured.)

Valladares, who collaborated with Paris-based WTFilms on international sales on thriller Downhill, has secured the services of Chilean production services company Byv Media.

The filmmaker told Screen he planned to shoot the feature in the Bio Bio region where the monster as a cross between Porky’s and Friday The 13th.
