Raised in Minsk, Darya Zhuk went to Harvard undergrad, received her MFA in film directing from Columbia and now lives in Brooklyn. She most recently directed an original episode of LITTLE AMERICA for Apple+ based on her own immigration experience from Belarus. She directed and EP'd the first four episodes of an original series for Netflix Russia called ZATO, as well as an episode of THE PREMISE for FX, an anthology series from BJ Novak. Darya also directed the entire second season (8 episodes) of a popular Russian television series which is streaming on Amazon Europe as RUSSIAN AFFAIRS. John Lesher will producer her English language feature debut, THE REAL AMERICAN, which examines the idea of the American Dream through the eyes of a young foreign exchange student just after the collapse of the Soviet Union. Darya's debut feature, CRYSTAL SWAN, was Belarus' first entry to the Oscars in 22 years: Set in Minsk during the late 90s, the film follows Velya, a young Belarusian DJ, as she deals with the farce of the visa application process in pursuit of her dreams of visiting America.
