Allan Vest is a composer, producer, and musician who was born in Texas and raised in Edmond, Oklahoma. His melodies have been featured in Disney television animated shorts and several documentaries and features.
As the primary songwriter and lead vocalist and guitarist/multi-instrumentalist for indie/orchestral pop band Starlight Mints, Vest was known for his surrealistic lyrics and clever arrangements. The band released four albums: The Dream That Stuff Was Made Of (2000, See-Thru Broadcasting Records), Built on Squares (2003, PIAS America Records), Drowaton (2006, Barsuk Records) and Change Remains (2009, Barsuk Records) before disbanding. The Starlight Mints composition "Eyes of the Night" is the theme song for the British supernatural drama Demons (2009). The band's music has also been featured in several films and television shows.
Vest produced the four Starlight Mints albums, with Dave Sardy co-producing the critically acclaimed first album. His producer credits also include working with indie bands including Student Film, Feel Spectres, Skating Polly and The Separation. He and his wife Barb Vest formed a project called doubleVee in 2012 and are continuing to write and record new music. Their debut album The Moonlit Fables of Jack the Rider was released in 2017. Vest is continuing to compose music for film, television, podcasts and other media.
