Zombies have existed almost since the beginning of cinema history. And no matter how many creative ways people have killed them over the years, those zombies just keep returning to the silver screen. Perhaps one of the most unique aspects of the zombie subgenre is that, with many of the films, screenwriters have concocted new causes for the initial zombie outbreak. Due to long-standing folkloric traditions, we all know how one becomes a vampire or how one becomes a werewolf. But with zombie films, we have the element of surprise on our side.
Through the years, we have seen zombie outbreaks occur due to voodoo and black magic, nuclear accidents and radioactivity, plagues, and—more recently—sexually transmitted disease. The Hideout (2014), however, keeps things a bit more simple. Filmed in Antelope Valley, the cause of the zombie outbreak in this new release is that good old California sunshine.

If Corey Haim was still battling substance abuse toward the end of his young life, he was able to fool some people around him. Anthony Fitzgerald, a 24-year-old actor from Minnesota, costarred alongside Haim in the last movie he made, an indie crime drama called Decisions. "He took everything so seriously," Fitzgerald exclusively tells us. "He was always running his lines. He was always reading, rehearsing." The movie centers on a bank robbery gone wrong, but... In an eerie case of art imitating life, many of the characters in the flick are dealing with making some bad decisions that lead to, among other, things, drugging and drinking. Haim plays a corrupt cop. Production wrapped in...

Earlier this week we pointed you in the direction of the Fearsome Fango Film Show Line-Up for the upcoming Los Angeles Weekend of Horrors running April 17-19, 2009. Now that the full event schedule is live, we thought we'd point out a few "choice cuts" (i.e., those panels that we here at Dread Central are either moderating, participating in, or just generally think you shouldn't miss).
Note: All guests/events listed are tentative. More stars are still joining the fun at this late stage, so expect lots of surprises all weekend long. And for the first time ever, there will be a second track of programming that will take place concurrently with the main track on Saturday and Sunday!
