Starring Bollywood A-listers Varun Dhawan and Anushka Sharma, the film follows an unemployed small-town man who defies all odds and naysayers and revives his family’s garment business. The film is directed by Sharat Katariya and produced by Maneesh Sharma and Aditya Chopra for Yash Raj Films. The trio previously collaborated on the hit “Dum Laga Ke Haisha” (2015).
Sharma said: “Indian youth are dream-chasers and if we look at China, they are also the same. So, I feel our simple, feel-good love story of two aspiring entrepreneurs will connect with people in that country.

Mumbai, Feb 28 (Ians) Actor Ayushmann Khurrana credits his films Vicky Donor and Dum Laga Ke Haisha for triggering his journey to stardom.
"The success of Vicky Donor and then Dum Laga Ke Haisha told me that the audience wanted to have a different experience in the theatre and that their taste was changing. They wanted to have a different form of engagement at the movies. They wanted to have a conversation, have a debate and take back an uplifting message home," said Ayushmann.
He says such films have been the voice of his beliefs and sensibilities, and have enabled him to "write my own destiny in this industry".
"I never looked back after Dum Laga Ke Haisha and so, it will always be a super special one for my career, for my life. It bolstered my belief that I was on the right path of selecting films that spark a conversation.

Mumbai, Feb 27 (Ians) Bhumi Pednekar is currently shooting for Badhaai Do in Rishikesh, where she shot for her first film, the 2015 release Dum Laga Ke Haisha, six years ago. She says her debut film will always be a milestone in her life and she cannot imagine how her career would have shaped up without it.

Mumbai, Feb 27 (Ians) The Ayushmann Khurrana and Bhumi Pedenkar-starrer Dum Laga Ke Haisha released in 2015 on this day. The films's director Sharat Katariya says the talent of the lead pair and their ability get into the skin of their characters made them so endearing in the storyline.
"It's just their talent nothing else! It's their talent of getting into the skin of the character and becoming the characters they've been asked for, for any film that they do. I'm sure that is why their films work and their performances work. It is purely their own talent," Sharat said.
The film tells the story about a school dropout named Prem, who hesitantly marries an educated but overweight girl named Sandhya.
The film was Maneesh Sharma's debut as a producer.
Talking about donning the producer's hat, Maneesh said: "Some take the plunge, others are tripped into the pool. I am definitely the latter.

Sui Dhaaga
Starring Varun Dhawan, Anushka Sharma
Directed by Sharat Katariya
After I saw Sharat Katariya’s debut film Dum Laga ke Haisha I hoped Katariya won’t sell out to the star system. But his second film starred a market-friendly lead star. Then I hoped Katariya’s second film won’t lose the charm and innocence of the first.
Providentially Sui Dhaaga loses none of the delicacy and sting even while providing space to it’s leads to surrender of to their characters.
Varun Dhawan surrenders to his character Mauji as though the role was tailor-made for him. Never afraid to look less than heroic on screen, Varun furnishes his darji’s characters with a rugged candour. This is an actor and a character who are so sincere to their craft they don’t mind crawling on the floor if that’s what it takes to stay afloat.

Mauji aka Varun Dhawan plays a local tailor from heartland India in Yash Raj Film’s upcoming entertainer Sui Dhaaga – Made in India. The young actor had to play his part as authentically as possible and the portions of the film that required him to catch a bus in his hometown was apparently very difficult.
“Buses are always overcrowded in small towns and it is quite a fight to catch one. There is a scene in which I have to push myself into the bus to be with my wife Mamta. Sharat (Katariya) wanted to make the scene as real as possible and instructed the other actors to make it as difficult for me as possible to get inside it. He wanted to accurately capture the hardships that a man has to go through to pull through the day,” reveals Varun.
He says, “It was a really difficult scene to pull off.

Anushka Sharma and Varun Dhawan play innocent rural folk from heartland India in Yash Raj Film’s upcoming entertainer Sui Dhaaga – Made in India. The two superstars play Mauji and Mamta, a tailor and an embroiderer respectively, who dream to make a name for themselves. A film that’s rooted in India demanded it to be shot as authentically and genuinely as possible and Anushka and Varun gave themselves completely in the hands of their director Sharat Katariya, whose previous film Dum Laga Ke Haisha was a blockbuster. In one particular scene Sharat wanted the two superstars to travel sitting on the roof of a public bus! Here’s why.
“We shot for about two days while sitting on the roof of a crowded moving bus. People in small towns sit on the top of buses because they are always overcrowded and bus service isn’t as frequent as in cities.

In Yash Raj Film’s upcoming Sui Dhaaga – Made in India, Varun Dhawan plays a local tailor aka Mauji from heartland India. To perfectly portray this role on screen Varun ensured that he really learned the craft of tailoring before he started filming. In fact, he learned and worked on this skill for three months and now can produce actual items.
“I knew that I had a task at hand. I knew I had to master the art to convince people that I am a real masterji. Darshan (the costume designer) and Noor bhai (the tailor on the sets) helped me a lot and I gave it three months to learn this skill. As an actor, I like to get challenged to become someone else on screen,” says Varun.
He adds, “It wasn’t easy at all. It was frustrating because initially I wasn’t getting it right. The needle pierced by fingers multiple times.
