London, Dec 25 (Ians) Formula One legend and three-time World Drivers’ Champion Jackie Stewart has supported Lewis Hamilton in seeking more power for the Grand Prix Drivers’ Association regarding decisions surrounding the sport.
Hamilton has recently hit back at F1 for allowing the regulations to be decided by “people with power” while the drivers have little say.
Stewart said the body was “much more powerful” when he was chairman of the organisation.
“I was the President of the Grand Prix Drivers’ Association when the Gpda was much more powerful than it is today by the way. I think that’s wrong. I think we should have more influence,” Stewart was quoted by Express Sport as saying.

Abu Dhabi, Nov 20 (Ians) Red Bull’s Max Verstappen took his 15th win of the 2022 Formula 1 season with victory in the season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix on Sunday.
Starting from the pole position, Verstappen controlled the race from the front and was never threatened as he took a typically dominant win and extended his record for most Grand Prix wins in a single season.
“It was a good race. It was all about tyre management. I think we looked after the Mediums quite well and then on the Hard tyres managing until the end,” said Verstappen, who won last year’s Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in contentious circumstances.
“Incredible to win again here. A 15th win of the season is unbelievable. It’s been really enjoyable to work with the whole team and to be able to achieve something like this.

Mexico City, Oct 31 (Ians) Dutch Formula 1 driver Max Verstappen has expressed his surprise at winning a record 14 races in a year and eclipsing the feats of Germany’s Michael Schumacher (2004) and Sebastian Vettel (2013), who have 13 race wins in a year.
Verstappen made history as he beat Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton to claim his 14th victory of the 2022 season at the Mexican Grand Prix after an intriguing strategic battle at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez here on Sunday.
The Red Bull driver said he was “incredibly proud” to achieve the feat.
Verstappen took pole position by more than three-tenths as Mercedes’ George Russell qualified on the front row and Lewis Hamilton qualified third on Saturday. Mexico City, Oct 29 (Ians) George Russell put Mercedes at the top of the timesheets during second practice as Scuderia Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc crashed out in the Mexico City Grand Prix here on Friday.
But it was Russell who led the way with an early lap time of 1m 19.970s on 2022-spec soft tyres, given that the regular drivers who sat out FP1 were permitted to run their own programme for the first half of the session to help them make up for lost time (Russell having handed his car to Nyck de Vries).
Not long after Russell’s pace-setting effort, Leclerc lost control of his Ferrari at the entry to the high-speed Turn 7 and dramatically slid backwards into the barriers on the outside of Turn 8, inflicting significant damage on the car’s rear end and bringing out the red flags.
With Leclerc unharmed, his car cleared away and the barriers repaired,...

Austin (Texas), Oct 24 (Ians) Dutch Formula 1 driver and 2022 champion Max Verstappen emerged victorious at the end of an action-packed United States Grand Prix, fending off Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton in a tense finale, while his Red Bull team took their first constructors’ title since 2013.
Verstappen’s record-equalling 13th win of the season, and the squad’s championship triumph, came a day after Red Bull co-founder and owner Dietrich Mateschitz passed away — a fifth F1 constructors’ title.
Having moved into the lead at the start, avoiding the drama behind as Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz and Mercedes’ George Russell clashed at Turn 1, Verstappen had looked set for a comfortable victory at the circuit, dealing with multiple Safety Car restarts and managing his pace expertly, according to formula1.com.

Suzuka (Japan), Oct 9 (Ians) Dutch Formula One driver Max Verstappen claimed victory for Red Bull in the Japanese Grand Prix, and took the 2022 world title, after a dramatic late penalty for Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc put the championship beyond doubt here on Sunday.

But the Ferrari driver was penalised for cutting the chicane on the final lap as he defended from the other Red Bull of Sergio Perez, according to formula1.com.
The dramatic points swing means Verstappen heads to the United States Grand Prix, and the final four races of the season, with an unassailable lead over Perez and Leclerc — confirming him as champion.

Singapore, Oct 3 (Ians) Red Bull Team Principal Christian Horner has lavished praise on Sergio Perez after the Mexican driver secured his “best victory” in the Singapore Grand Prix on Sunday.
However, Horner sympathised with championship leader Max Verstappen, who had an uncharacteristically tough weekend, qualifying eighth and finishing seventh.
“It’s, without doubt, the best drive of his career. In tricky conditions, he converted the start and settled himself into the race. He looked after those intermediate tyres, Safety Cars coming and going. He was just always in control — super cool,” Horner said.
Perez qualified second but jumped pole-sitter Charles Leclerc at the start of the race, with the Mexican driver going on to win by over seven seconds — shrugging off a five-second post-race penalty for dropping too far behind the Safety Car.

Pole-sitter Charles Leclerc finished runner-up as Red Bull denied Ferrari a home victory at Monza while Mercedes driver George Russell, who started the race third, finished third.
“We had a great race. We had a really good race car and we were controlling the gap and then the Safety Car came out. Unfortunately, we didn’t get a restart,” Verstappen said after the race.
While Verstappen was elated with his win, Leclerc was disappointed after losing a chance to win Ferrari’s home Grand Prix.
“The end was frustrating. I wish we could have ended up racing. It’s a shame. I gave it all. I wish I could have won in front of the amazing Tifosi,...

Formula 1: Leclerc takes pole position for the Italian Gp as Verstappen, Sainz suffer grid penalties
Monza (Italy), Sep 10 (Ians) Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc surged to the pole position for the 2022 Italian Grand Prix in a qualifying programme marked by a number of grid penalties that saw defending champion Max Verstappen and Carlos Sainz dropped down the grid for various transgressions.
With the Red Bull driver duo of Verstappen and Sainz dropping down the order due to grid penalties as Mercedes’ George Russell jumped to the front of the row.
Leclerc’s time of 1m 20.161s put him on pole by 0.145s over Red Bull’s Verstappen, while Sainz was 0.268s off his teammate in P3. Verstappen has a five-place penalty, however, while Sainz will drop to 18th. While Sergio Perez qualified fourth for Red Bull, he will drop 10 places — with fifth-place qualifier Lewis Hamilton dropped to the back row alongside Yuki Tsunoda.

Zandvoort (the Netherlands), Sep 4 (Ians) Red Bull driver and defending champion Max Verstappen won the 2022 Dutch Grand Prix dramatically, quelling a strong late showing by the Mercedes’ George Russell and Charles Leclerc of Ferrari on Sunday.
With the virtual Safety Car in force, Verstappen took a second pit stop on lap 48 with Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes in the second position and Russell third. However, Hamilton’s hopes were dashed as the Safety Car was deployed on lap 55.
The seven-time champion stayed out on mediums to inherit the lead while Verstappen came in for soft tyres, followed by Russell and Leclerc, for the restart on Lap 61. In that restart, Verstappen swept past the Mercedes for the lead, with Russell and Leclerc following suit to pry Hamilton away from the podium.

“Unbelievable. Today we had a quick race car again. A qualifying lap around here is insane,” Verstappen said after the qualifying session.
Leclerc ended up 0.021s off the home favourite in P2, while Q2 leader Carlos Sainz qualified P3 – under a tenth off pole.
Former Champion Lewis Hamilton qualified on the second row in P4, the Mercedes driver unable to improve late in Q3, while teammate George Russell settled for sixth behind Perez.

Baku (Azerbaijan), June 6 (Ians) Red Bull driver Sergio Perez won the Azerbaijan Grand Prix on Sunday after team-mate Max Verstappen, who was leading, crashed out with five laps left owing to a puncture, and Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton made a rare mistake in the closing stages.
Perez got his second career win ahead of Aston Martin's Sebastian Vettel, who secured his maiden podium for the team by finishing second. Alpha Tauri driver Pierre Gasly completed a surprise podium, finishing third.
Verstappen had controlled the race since taking the lead from Hamilton during the first round of pit stops but crashed heavily into the barriers on the home straight, unable to control the car after the left rear tyre was punctured. The Dutchman kicked the rubber in disgust before walking away.

Sakhir (Bahrain), March 28 (Ians) German driver Sebastian Vettel of Aston Martin started the Formula One season opener Bahrain Grand Prix from the back of the grid after a five-place grid penalty, ruling body Fia said on Sunday.
The federation said Vettel failed to respect double yellow flags during Q1 in a qualifying session on Saturday when Haas driver Nikita Mazepin had a spin at Turn 1, reported Dpa.
As a result, the four-time world champion Vettel dropped from 18th to 20th on the grid on his Aston Martin debut after six years at Ferrari.
"Vettel did not abandon his lap. He explained to the stewards that he saw the smoke ahead of him, but was unsure if it was a lock-up or a stopped car until he was quite close to the car and the smoke was lifting," a statement said.

Sakhir, (Bahrain), March 28 (Ians) Max Verstappen of Red Bull took a brilliant pole position for Sunday's season-opening Formula One Bahrain Grand Prix by beating reigning world champion Lewis Hamilton by around four tenths of a second.

It was Verstappen's fourth career pole position and was delivered on his final flying lap where he put together his fastest times in all three sectors of the track.

Max Verstappen, the 16-year-old Formula One racer, crashed during his first-ever Formula One demo run over the weekend.
Max Verstappen Crashes
Verstappen tore the wing off his Red Bull RB7 car during the demo run, hitting the wall twice at Rotterdam while representing the Toro Rosso livery, reported Crash.net.
It was previously reported that Verstappen had been confirmed for the Toro Rosso team for the 2015 Formula One season. His accident has reignited the suggestion that he’s too young to compete in Formula One. The crash, though not the first by a driver in the Formula One demos, has racing experts concerned for his future performances on the track.
Red Bull is no stranger to bringing young drivers up to Formula One. In the past, they brought up both Sebastian Vettel and Daniel Ricciardo to F1 at young ages. Both Vettel and Ricciardo have been successful additions to the Toro Rosso team.

Sebastian Vettel was unchallenged as he extended his record to 13 wins for the season with his ninth consecutive victory, but it was somewhat ignored by the F1 fans as Mark Webber waved goodbye to Formula 1 with a fantastic second place finish, standing atop the podium for the 42nd and final time.
He battled with Alonso throughout the race in an interesting duel, the Ferrari driver breaking back onto the podium for the final chance of the season, ahead of a resurgent McLaren team and Mercedes rivals. Whilst the 2013 race lacked the excitement of last years’ event, it still provided a generally entertaining final race of the year, far surpassing that of the more recent races.

The 2013 Formula 1 season is drawing to a close this weekend at Sao Paulo, Brazil. There are some who say there is no point watching the rest of the season. The world champion has been crowned already in both the driver’s and constructor’s championships, with Sebastian Vettel and his Red Bull team winning their fourth title in a row. Vettel wrapped up another record with his eighth win in a row at the United States Grand Prix in Austin last weekend.
Fernando Alonso also secured second place in the driver’s championship in Austin, meaning there is no runner-up spot to fight for either. The quality of racing in 2013 has been lacklustre at times, with a tyre-degradation situation rendering flat-out racing near impossible. It is easy to see why people are tuning out of F1 before the season is done. However, there are still many reasons to watch.
