Chayan Sarkar is a film maker, actor, screenwriter & producer of Indian origin based in France.In his early career, he was
was awarded 'La connaissance de la France' for his cultural excellence by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs & also won Australian Government's National Multicultural Marketing Award. A native French speaker & linguist , Chayan was pivotal in translation & interpretation of Bengali Baul & Bhatiali songs, stories of Indian troubadours & Patuas, their philosophy & traditions for French filmmakers, painters, writers, journalists, photographers visiting India.He was frequently engaged by France Télévisions, Radio Suisse Romande, French Embassy in India & Alliance Française of Calcutta. He is founder president of 'Gange Sur Seine' Indian film festival in Paris , president of South Asian International Film Festival in New York, a member of AFPF & Le Club de L'Audiovisuel ( France) & Official Ambassador of City of Toulouse. Holder of Masters in applied linguistics from Australia & superior diploma in French literature from Paris, Chayan had intensively worked along with Australian Indigenous activist late Tiga Bayles in empowering Indigenous storytellers.Later he collaborated with child protection expert Lindsay Wegener telling stories about Indigenous children caught in the child protection system in Australia.Winner of Best Director, Best Feature Film, Best Audience Award for his feature movie 'The Sleeping Warrior' at Chico Independent Film Festival, California in 2013, his film was also nominated for Golden Pegasus in Peloponnese International Film Festival, Greece and Golden Aphrodite for Cyprus International Film Festival.
