The crime drama series Dexter originally aired on Showtime for eight seasons, from 2006 to 2013… and even though I had access to Showtime during those years, I completely missed out on it. The show was revived with a season called Dexter: New Blood in 2021, and now a prequel series called Dexter: Original Sin is set to begin airing on the Paramount+ streaming service as of this Friday, December 13th, with the Showtime premiere to follow on December 15th. “20 Pounds to Happiness” marks De León’s debut as a feature film director. The movie follows a full-figured Latina in a “Real Women Have Curves” support group who must decide between staying loyal to her girlfriends or risking the loss of her dream man. López and De León serve as producers.

Showtime’s Dexter returned to San Diego Comic-Con on Friday night with a very special guest in tow, Michael C. Hall.

It’s not a Dexter Con without Dexter, and this evening there were two in attendance: Hall and Patrick Gibson, the latter of who plays the younger version of the former’s character in the prequel series Dexter: Original Sin. Hall serves as narrator of the 90s-set series, which will premiere in December.

Additionally, Hall will star in Dexter: Resurrection, a new series that is set in present day and is a followup to the 2021 Dexter: New Blood. It will launch in summer 2025.

When it comes to technological horror, it doesn’t take long for stories to become outdated. Something that never changes about the subgenre, however, is the overwhelming fear of daunting and suspicious new tech. With concerns about A.I. and smart devices being so prevalent these days, Justin Gallaher and Sam Roseme understandably tap into that specific dread with their movie Motion Detected.

Motion Detected begins like other tech-horrors; the dangerous device stays the same while the users change. After a family mysteriously disappears, a couple moves into their house. Of course the realtor fails to mention that information during the walk-through. None the wiser, Eva (Natasha Esca) and husband Miguel (Carlo Mendez) move in and get acquainted with Diablo Controls, their bizarrely named security system. The new owners have barely moved in when Miguel is called away for work back in Mexico City, the place they just left because Eva felt unsafe.

Freestyle Digital Media has announced the North American VOD release of their smart house psychological horror thriller Motion Detected. At this point anybody who reads Morehorror.com regularly knows that I am a huge fan of director Jessica Cameron's work, and good friends with Jessica as well. While my closeness to Jessica and her movies makes it difficult for me to review them, it also makes it imperative that I do so, because with Truth or Dare and now Mania, Jessica Cameron has proven herself to be the best and most important director working in the indie horror scene today, and as a journalist who is also Jessica's friend, I am uniquely positioned to get the word out about her films and to advocate them to the horror community and the world at large.

Jessica Cameron's lesbian horror thriller was recently at the Arizona Underground Film Festival. Here, Mania won "Best Feature." The film continues to make its round on the film festival circuit. Produced by Mem Ferda (The Devil's Double), Mania follows two lesbian lovers, on the run after a brutal murder. The film centrally stars Tristan Risk (American Mary), Ellie Church (Time to Kill) and Carlo Mendez. An update on the film is hosted here. Mania produced by British Actor / Producer Mem Ferda (Miss You Already, London Heist) revolves around two lesbian lovers who flee their home and travel cross-country after a brutal murder.

Scream Queen turned director Jessica Cameron has shared the first bit of footage from her sophomore directorial vehicle Mania, which tells the story of two lesbian lovers who flee their home and travel cross country after a brutal murder. The movie stars Ellie Church (Time to Kill, Headless) in the lead role of Mel, with Tristan Risk (American Mary) co-starring as her crazed lesbian lover.

Scheduled to start the festival circuit later this year, Mania was one of three features that were filmed simultaneously while traveling across the United States in an Rv. Desolation was the other narrative feature, which is a modern hitch hiker tale in which Cameron stars along side Carlo Mendez (The Bay, The Second Coming of Christ). Kill the Pa will be the feature length documentary that chronicles the making of both movies, giving the fans an eye opening, honest look into how indie films are made.
