On LinkedIn, some top creators are adding new connections — and reaping financial rewards in the process. The professional platform is realigning its BrandLink program, which will play matchmaker between advertisers and an initial group of 30 creators in the business category.
BrandLink first launched last June, when it was called The Wire Program. The ad product’s new complexion sounds similar to the Google program now known as YouTube Select: Like Select, BrandLink cordons off ad space next to videos from popular publishers and creators.
LinkedIn has cultivated a homegrown community of creators who offer unique perspectives on the professional world. The initial BrandLink cohort fits into that niche; it consists of creators who comment on business-to-business topics, including Diary of a CEO podcaster Steven Bartlett (pictured above) and longtime digital marketing operative Gary Vaynerchuk.

The VeeFriends have finally made it to the VeeDome.
“VeeFriends,” an animated series aimed at the 6-11 demographic produced by VaynerWatt and “Cocomelon” shop Moonbug Entertainment, premiered its first three episodes on Sept. 30 on the YouTube Kids section of the streaming giant.
The series, created by Vaynerchuk, is designed to encourage kids to embrace challenges and competition and how to learn from defeat and missteps. Characters, including Dialed-in Dog, Emphathy Elephant and Perfect Persian Cat, compete in the VeeDome with the goal of finding common ground but also expressing their own voices. The character of Dome Master “ensures that each battle runs smoothly and that every character who steps into the VeeDome comes out a little stronger and a lot more self-aware,” per the series description.
“VeeFriends” marks the first production to debut from VaynerWatt, the partnership formed in 2023 between serial entrepreneur Gary Vaynerchuk and CAA and Wheelhouse Entertainment alum Eric Wattenberg.

There’s a lot of news in the creator economy. Each week, we handpick a selection of stories to give you a snapshot of trends, updates, business moves, and more from around the industry. This week, one streamer drew praise from a Marvel superhero, but others behaved badly.
Creator commotion
“The amount of clips I’ve seen of Kick streamers harassing people at TwitchCon is insane.” That’s how Ludwig Ahgren described the mood at Twitch’s annual gathering. Reports of sexual harassment and stalking led to criticism of the Kick community from streaming bigwigs like Valkyrae and Tectone. One of the victims of those alleged transgressions, Felix “xQc” Lengyel, wants Kick to mete out “real repercussions” for the troublemakers. Will the platform listen?
Simu Liu thinks iShowSpeed is a “badass.” As the energetic streamer wrapped up his blockbuster tour of Southeast Asia, he met up with Shang-Chi himself in Singapore.

It’s a gathering that will bring together CEOs and CMOs, owners of NFTs and MBAs, trading card and pin collectors and a healthy dose of social media creators, podcasters and influencers. VeeCon, which runs Aug. 9-11 in downtown Los Angeles, is at its core an expression of the multitudes contained by serial entrepreneur Gary Vaynerchuk.
“We want to be the coolest business conference,” Vaynerchuk told Variety. The event will highlight Vaynerchuk’s various businesses with a strong emphasis on his budding kids brand VeeFriends. It also hopes to buck the downtrend in the world of Web3, NFTs and disruptive digital technologies by growing the VeeFriends characters and storytelling eco-system through digital and video content.
“The world underestimates the sheer power and attention that sits on social media,” Vaynerchuk says. “A lot of people wish it wasn’t that way.”

In 2014 John Skipper, then the president of ESPN, and David Levy, then the president of Turner, signed the paperwork with the NBA to extend its TV deals with TNT and ESPN into 2025.
A decade later, and the veteran sports media executives are now teaming up to try and sell a new basketball league to TV networks and streaming services, one that they are betting will serve a fast-growing sector of the market: Women’s sports.
Skipper and Levy are among the investors in Unrivaled, a three-on-three women’s basketball league co-founded by WNBA stars Breanna Stewart and Napheesa Collier. Unrivaled will launch in January 2025, and Levy and Skipper will spearhead its media rights and sponsorship deals.

If you're like us, the broadcast shows are not hitting their marks.
They're beyond formulaic (everyone's out to tear down Firehouse 51 on Chicago Fire? Give us a break already) and have lost their pizazz.
Watching TV barely cracks our faces with a smile.
But the streamer that is part of our return to classic TV (Dark Shadows? Check! Family? Check! Columbo? Check!), Tubi, has a new original series on the way starring Gilmore Girls and Parenthood star Lauren Graham.
Neither show is on Tubi, so why not create one to bring the talented actress into their world?
That's what Tubi is doing as the Fox Corporation's ad-supported VOD service announced today that it has greenlit the new original comedy series The Z Suite starring Graham.

Not a bad look when you’ve just published your third book, a guide to branding oneself and one’s company.
Titled Brand It Like Serhant: Stand Out From The Crowd, Build Your Following, and Earn More Money ($30, Hachette Go), the book takes readers through chapters designed as a step-by-step program that includes identifying a core identity, advice on using social media, and exhortations to “shout it from the mountaintop,” i.e. confidently and emphatically promote oneself. It includes exercises at the end of each chapter and even includes photos of Serhant modeling outfits and showing poses that do and don’t...

Meta‘s “Twitter killer” Threads is here, and Mark Zuckerberg says it got 30 million signups within its first 24 hours of going live. That’s around 15% of Twitter’s daily active user base.
But it’s not clear if all those signups will convert to active users–and, even more importantly, some of the 30 million might regret signing up, because it turns out once you make a Threads account, you can’t delete it without also deleting your Instagram account.
Why? Well, Meta considers Threads part of a user’s Instagram account, a sort of textual counterpart to Intagram’s photo focus. Meta has said its “vision is that Threads will be a new app more focused on text and dialogue, modeled after what Instagram has done for photo and video.”
This isn’t to say Threads bars users from posting photos and videos. It’s essentially a Twitter copy in terms of content.

Telly, a startup led by a co-founder of Pluto TV, is taking a novel tack in promoting its dual-screen smart TV sets.
After emerging from a 24-month stealth period, the company says it will offer its first 500,000 mass-produced models for free to consumers when they start shipping this summer. Ilya Pozin, founder and CEO of Telly, told Deadline in an interview that the 55-inch sets, which have 4K Hdr picture quality and a built-in premium sound bar, would retail for more than $1,000.
Telly says it is bringing to market the first dual-screen smart TV. Below the main panel, a smaller screen is a conduit for sports scores, news, weather, display ads and other supplemental information. The bottom screen can also go dark, for example when a movie is playing on the bigger screen.

New Delhi, Aug 23 (Ians) The non-fungible tokens (NFTs) owners have zero intellectual property ownership of their content and only one Nft collection in the top 25 platforms by market capitalisation has attempted to confer intellectual property rights to the purchasers of digital arts, says a report.
Most of Nft operators “appear to have misled Nft purchasers” about the extent of their rights.
The Creative Commons license, seen as a solution to the restrictive licenses used by most projects, “renders Nft ownership obsolete from a legal perspective as it moves the intellectual property fully into the public domain, making it impossible for Nft holders to defend their ownership rights in court,” according to the report by Galaxy Digital Research.
The report mentioned that without improvements in the on-chain representation and transfer of intellectual property rights from Nft issuers to Nft token holders, the expansive vision of Web3 will remain unrealised.

‘Fate of a Sport’ From Executive Producer LeBron James Unveils First Trailer Before Tribeca Premiere
“Fate of a Sport,” premiering at the 2022 Tribeca Film Festival, has unveiled its first trailer exclusively to Variety.
Covering the world of professional lacrosse and one of its most controversial and high-profile stars, Paul Rabil, the film deals in much more than triumph on the pitch — encompassing millions in capital fundraising, talent poaching and lawsuits from legacy athletic clubs, all against the backdrop of a global pandemic.
“Even in the regular lacrosse league, guys still have to have a second job,” a narrator explains in the clip, alluding to the fact that professional lacrosse is nowhere near as well-funded or rewarding for its players on the national stage. So Rabil and his brother Mike decided to break ranks and potentially sacrifice Paul’s decorated career to launch a league of their own (the Premier Lacrosse League).

A savvy sense of nostalgia -- as well as a purported boom in trading cards -- is fueling Logan Paul’s latest content series-turned-charity venture: a YouTube live stream where he unboxed $200,000 worth of rare Pokemon trading cards.
Paul grew up watching the Pokemon series and playing its accompanying games, and noted in a recent video that he'd been tipped off to a resurgence in the trading card economy by his friend, the entrepreneur Gary Vaynerchuk. And so, he started building his own collection. His biggest-ever investment in the space was a so-called First Edition Booster Box, which contains 36 packs of first edition Pokemon cards -- 12 of which were guaranteed to include ultra-rare holographic cards. Paul purchased the box at online auction for a cool $200,000.
His aim was to pull a first edition holographic Charizard card, which refers to a character in the franchise whose card Paul said represents “the holy grail of Pokemon collecting.

CBS’s research team is getting a faster read on how viewers respond emotionally to its TV shows — by using the dispassionate logic of machines.
The broadcaster is using the data-analytics platform developed by New York startup Canvs, which uses proprietary artificial-intelligence processing to parse natural-language comments.
CBS started using the Canvs Surveys tool to automate the coding of open-ended responses to surveys fielded by its research team starting in the fourth quarter of 2018. Kate Mitchell is leaving Oprah Winfrey’s Own to join Gallery Media Group — the digital-media holding company established by serial entrepreneur and investor Gary Vaynerchuk last year — as its first chief revenue officer.
Mitchell most recently was Svp of sales at Own: The Oprah Winfrey Network, which is majority owned by Discovery. Before joining Own in 2014, she spent nearly a decade at Discovery, where she helped launch Own in 2011.
Gallery Media was formed when Vaynerchuk and Rse Ventures, a venture firm led by real-estate developer and Miami Dolphins owner Stephen Ross, acquired women’s lifestyle digital publisher PureWow in January 2017. In June, Gallery Media launched One37pm, a brand aimed at young men that blends “culture, style, music and sports, through the lens of entrepreneurship,” according to the company.
Gallery Media CEO Ryan Harwood, who founded PureWow in 2010, said he interviewed more than 100 candidates for the Cro position before selecting Mitchell.

Gary Vaynerchuk is proving you don't need to be an NBA superstar to land your own shoe deal. The social media entrepreneur has attached his personal brand to the GaryVee 001 and GaryVee 002, a pair of sneaker designs launched by K-Swiss.
Both items in the GaryVee line feature black and green in their respective color schemes, though they are stylistically distinct. The 001 retails for $110, while the 002 sells for $85. Both footwear choices can be found on the K-Swiss online store, though at the time of this post, the men's versions of them are sold out. For women, both designs are still in stock. If you absolutely must get your hands on the GaryVee line, you can look for it among the handful of brick-and-mortar retailers that are listed on the K-Swiss website.
Vaynerchuk, a leader in the social marketing field thanks to his company VaynerMedia, began his partnership with K-Swiss earlier this year.

On September 25, one day before the annual Streamy Awards, the first-ever Purpose Awards will celebrate online video creators who have championed just causes over the past year. Adjacent to that ceremony, some of the event's honorees and advisory board members will have a chance to practice the upstanding principles they preach. On the day of the show, they will join UnitedHealthcare and the Los Angeles Dodgers for a "Day of Service and Play" that will include volunteer work at a local elementary school.
The Day of Service is part of UnitedHealthcare's Do Good Live Well campaign, which aims to create healthier communities by reminding people to eat right and exercise regularly. This year, the Day of Service will take place at La's Allesandro Elementary School, where members of the Dodgers and Purpose Awards figures will interact with students. One stated goal of the initiative is to promote the "100 Mile Club,...

It’s that time of year. Mary Meeker puts out her state of the Internet report, filled with a thousand little brain bombs, then Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference rolls out a batch of intriguing hardware and software goodies. In both, we see hints of where we’re headed with tech and the entertainment that tech now brings us.
And darned if mobile doesn’t look like it’s hitting important inflection points this year, shifting how we entertain ourselves, and how content is being paid for. There’s lots of money still left in traditional media, and lots more on the desktop PC, but long-arriving shifts toward mobile are finally here.
Consider these data points from Meeker’s mammoth 355-page presentation:
About 3.4 billion people, roughly half the world’s population, now use the Internet.
Around 2.8 billion people have smartphones.
U.S. adults now spend an average 5.6 hours a day watching digital media.

Apple Music is hoping to compete with Netflix, Amazon Prime, and other subscription video on demand (Svod) platforms, and its most significant foray into that industry (so far) is now live. At the 2017 edition of Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference, the tech company premiered the first episode of Planet of the Apps, an unscripted series about mobile entrepreneurship.
Planet of the Apps, which has been in the works for more than a year, is stylistically similar to ABC’s Shark Tank, but with a specific focus on mobile development. Guests pitch their app ideas to a panel that includes Gwyneth Paltrow, Jessica Alba, Gary Vaynerchuk, and series co-creator Will.i.am. The best ideas have a chance to earn funding from Vc firm Lightspeed Venture Partners.
"The question when you have ideas is how to take those to fruition," said Apple Svp of Internet software and services Eddy Cue, who recently made headlines of his own.
