Welcome to the Creator Society. That’s the name of a new influencer agency formed out of a merger between Ensemble Digital Studios and 2 Social Co.
The services provided by Creator Society will reflect its two predecessor companies. Ensemble was led by Larry Shapiro, a former CAA agent who helped build talent management rosters at networks like Fullscreen and Big Frame. At Ensemble, Shapiro’s team continued to secure book, TV, merch, and brand campaign deals for clients like Cost n Mayor, comedian Laura Clery, and engineer/builder JoelCreates.
Compared to Shapiro, 2 Social Co. owners Natalie Weaver and Sarah Estrada don’t have as much experience in the agency world, but they built an affiliate marketing firm that has worked with creators to establish thriving direct-to-consumer businesses. By helping fashion bloggers like Taryn Truly, WhitneyNRife, and OliviaFredaCurves set up on ecommerce platforms like Ltk, Weaver and Estrada (who are both...

Like many prominent online influencers, Laura Clery didn’t plan to be anything like an online influencer when she started her career. But her path to fame might be even more indirect and unlikely than most who’ve become part of the “millionaires club” of influencers with huge followings.
Six feet tall and lean as the nightmares of a Weight Watchers executive, Clery has the build, blond mane, and big eyes of a model. But her passport to stardom came through a Snapchat lens that smooshes those model looks into square-jawed slacker Helen Horbath and a menagerie of equally misshapen relatives with whom Helen amusingly bickers during her Facebook Watch show Help Helen Smash.
Clery’s big viral moment came more than a year ago, when she recorded Helen pitching a relentless string of seriously awful/funny pickup lines in an attempt to flirt with “Stephen,” a hunky yet horrified...

Facebook is increasing its presence this year at VidCon as the annual convention in Anaheim has emerged as the epicenter of the digital video scene.
For the first time, two of the social media giant’s executives, Instagram co-founder Mike Krieger and Facebook Vice President Fidji Simo, will participate in a fireside chat, talking about the future of video with Ami Dunn McClure, 35, Nigerian mother of the McClure twins who’ve become social media phenomenons.
VidCon’s Jim Louderback said the show, started in 2010 by the Vlogbrothers, John and Hank Green, has long been associated with YouTube and the ascendency of user-generated content.
The conference, which kicks off Wednesday night with a festival concert and continues through Saturday at the Anaheim Convention Center, is seeing broader participation from other digital platforms.
Livestreaming platform Twitch is joining this year for the first time as a sponsor and Snap taking part in panel discussions.

As Facebook continues to make release new tools aimed at individual creators, it is ramping up its activity at the online video industry's most notable yearly gathering. The social giant will have an increased presence at VidCon, where it will showcase some of its top stars -- such as comedian Laura Clery and magician Julius Dein.
Facebook has been to VidCon for the past five years, but it began making a big investment in the event in 2016, when it launched a lounge of its own and hosted keynotes discussing its content plans. The year after that, Facebook continued to woo creators with a fancy new VidCon space.
Now, in 2018, Facebook's VidCon presence is expected to increase once again. At a Consumer Booth the social platform will launch on the event's Community Floor, fans will be able to interact with top creators while checking out some programming from the nine-month-old entertainment venture Facebook Watch.

A notable executive has jumped from one comedy brand to another. Jen Danielson, who previously served as the President of Above Average, has joined Comedy Central as the Viacom-owned network's Svp of Digital.
At Comedy Central, Danielson will oversee digital content for a growing number of platforms. The network's Cc Studios division has released a plethora of short-form comedy series on sites like YouTube. Some of those shows, including Idiotsitter, have ended up on TV. Comedy Central has also established an active presence on the social web. It has brought several programs to Snapchat, including a partnership with digital comedian Laura Clery.
Daneilson will bring more than a decade-and-a-half of comedy experience to her new role. She spent 16 years at Broadway Video, the studio best known for producing Saturday Night Live. During her time there, she played a foundational role in Above Average, which launched in 2012 as a hub for web-based laughs.

Digital creator Laura Clery, who Facebook highlighted as one of its homegrown stars during VidCon earlier this summer, is set to launch a new sketch comedy series on Comedy Central’s Snapchat Discover channel today.
Clery, who counts 3.2 million fans on Facebook, rose to renown for her various character creations -- including Ivy, a stupid Instagram model, and the spiritual guru and cooking expert Pamela Pupkin. In the three-episode series, called The Laura Clery Project, the 31-year-old will interact with different characters -- as played by herself -- by harnessing face-morphing technology. These characters include a murderous baby, a bearded man, and a perverted 70-year-old woman, Variety reports.

The Sex Comedy genre does not inspire a lot of confidence in me. Probably because those two words don’t sound right together, like “pump nuggets” or “bad sex.” Of course there are exceptions. Some people would argue Revenge of the Nerds belongs to that genre, like the way the Golden Globes nominated It’s Complicated as a comedy even though, from the trailer, it looks like they trapped three great actors inside a horror movie. Web series Sex Ed is the latest online iteration of the Sex Comedy since Blue Movies. An ensemble cast play eight students all in the same college sex education class. I had no idea colleges offered sex education as part of their curriculum, but then again I got treated for hysterical blindness as a result of excessive masturbation my freshman year at Oral Roberts. (By the way, I understand those jokes now I heard...
