We first learned of Paramount+'s plans to move forward with a new Star Trek TV movie, Star Trek: Section 31, starring Academy Award winner Michelle Yeoh (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings) last April.
The movie will see Yeoh reprise her role as Emperor Philippa Georgiou, a character she first played in Star Trek: Discovery season 1, and picks up with her character after she joins a secret division of Starfleet tasked with protecting the United Federation of Planets. She must also face the sins of her past.
Paramount+ has just dropped the official trailer and poster following the streamer's presentation at Ccxp in São Paolo, Brazil. The movie will premiere on Friday, January 24, 2025, exclusively on Paramount+ in the U.S. and international markets where the service is available.

Accused has wrapped season 2, but how does each episode rank?
Accused returned to Fox this fall for another set of episodes with a unique formula. Each episode of the anthology features a different cast and story with a person on trial for a crime. As the episode goes on, flashbacks show what happened, and inevitably, the crime itself is never what it originally seemed.
Season 1 was a good success with 15 episodes, while this year was only 8. That was shorter yet still had a great bevy of guest stars, making it notable. Some can argue Season 2 wasn’t as strong as the first year, and while there were great performances, not all the stories worked as well. Here’s how each episode of Accused Season 2 ranks to show which belonged in the top tier for the show.
Caution: This article contains minor Spoilers for Accused Season 2

The first appearance of the now-famed Vulcan nerve pinch was in the "Star Trek" episode "The Enemy Within", wherein Spock (Leonard Nimoy) used it to incapacitate en evil duplicate of Captain Kirk (William Shatner). The nerve pinch was evidently so exactly placed on a victim's neck, and so strongly squeezed by the perpetrator, that it would induce almost instant unconsciousness. Rowdy Trekkie kids witnessed the nerve pinch and likely tried it out in their siblings, much to the consternation of their parents. No, kids, the Vulcan nerve pinch doesn't work in real life.
Nimoy himself invented the idea for the Vulcan nerve pinch. The multi-hyphenate, it seems, didn't like the violence that the "Enemy Within" script called for. It read that Spock "kayoes" Kirk, by hitting him in the head with the butt of his phaser. Nimoy, however, was a pacifist,...

Star Trek: Discovery wasn't welcomed by every Star Trek fan when Paramount announced the new series was coming. And when the series debuted, there were a lot of complaints about the differences between the new Trek and the legacy Trek which aired from the 1960s through 2005.
Discovery didn't only look different from any other ship so did the Klingons and the crew. There were new alien species and redone species. There was a new way to travel with the spore drive, and fans were open about their displeasure. But the Discovery cast understood the points of view of these fans and never allowed it to discourage them, according to series star Sonequa Martin-Green in an interview with Variety.
"But this is an intelligent group of people. They are loyal, and they’re speaking from their hearts. They had issues, and rightfully so. They were justified to have their points of view,...

We start with Fox, which has a two-hour special of Accused. We get two episodes back to back, starting with ken Jeong’s episode. How, then, does he end up imprisoned and facing trial? What did he do?...

Being the lead of a Star Trek series is a high honor. Usually, the person who lands the leading role is playing the captain, or person in charge of their ship. That, or they become the captain after some time as a commander. It's these people we think about as series leads when we think about the men and women who are front and center.
This is a convention that has been broken more and more often in recent years. Shows like Star Trek: Discovery, Picard, Lower Decks, and Prodigy do not feature a genuine captain or leading figure to start the show. While some may point out that Benjamin Sisko in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine wasn't a captain, like the main characters from these other shows, he was still the individual who was seen as in charge.
Michael Burnham, Beckett Mariner, and Dal R'El are the main characters...

The Star Trek Universe is no stranger to star-power. The same franchise that helped William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy become pop-culture phenomenons also enhanced the careers of legends such as Sir Patrick Stewart and Chris Pine (in the Kelvin Timeline movies). It's also now spotlighting veterans of this generation such as Sonequa Martin-Green on Star Trek: Discovery and Anson Mount in spinoff series Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. The franchise appeals to people of all ages and one of the many (countless!) reasons for that is that it has been led by stars from different generations.
One of the biggest franchises of today is undoubtedly the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Debuting in 2008 with Iron Man, it enhanced the careers of Robert Downey Jr. Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, and Mark Ruffalo, while also launching the Hollywood careers of the likes of Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston. "When a soldier dies, you suck it up." Briarcliff Ent. has unveiled an official trailer for a movie called My Dead Friend Zoe, marking the feature directorial debut of filmmaker Kyle Hausmann-Stokes (who was in the US Army). A fresh new take on veterans. This initially premiered at the 2024 SXSW Film Festival earlier this year, where it won the Audience Award in the Narrative Spotlight section. You can tell why from this trailer! Engaged in a mysterious relationship with her dead best friend from the Army, a female Afghanistan veteran comes head to head with her Vietnam vet grandfather while at the family's ancestral lake house. At its core, this is about a complicated friendship, a divided family and the complex ways in which we process grief. This unique indie film stars Sonequa Martin-Green as Merit, Natalie Morales as Zoe, along with Ed Harris, Morgan Freeman, Utkarsh Ambudkar, and Gloria Reuben.

Exclusive: Max’s upcoming medical drama The Pitt is already making a lasting impression, months ahead of its debut. And it’s not only over the headline-making lawsuit from the Michael Crichton estate alleging ties to his creation ER — something The Pitt auspices and studio Warner Bros TV vigorously deny.
The intrigue has to do with the series’ unusual casting process that resembled hiring practices at a general company, where people apply for a position at a fixed salary denoted in the job listing — in this case $50,000 and $35,000 per episode. That technique is also employed by several current episodic crime anthology series including CBS’ Elsbeth, Fox’s Accused and Peacock’s Poker Face for their Guest Star of the Week, who are getting between $75K-150K. (More on the sizes of each of these fixed fees in a bit.)

It seems like everyone has a podcast these days. We have Deep Space Nine's Cirroc Lofton's 7th Rule podcast, The Delta Flyers', hosted by Voyager stars Garrett Wang and Robert Duncan McNeil. There's also the D-Con Chamber podcast, hosted by Enterprise stars Dominic Keating and Connor Trinneer. There's a podcast for everyone and thanks to Gates McFadden, that remains true.
Each of the above podcasts serve a unique purpose. The 7th Rule talks a lot about Deep Space Nine, among other current Trek-topics. When you look at the who's who of stars in the franchise, you will get some of the biggest names that the world of science fiction has ever had. From William Shatner to Patrick Stewart, luminaries like Scott Bakula and Sonequa Martin-Green. Not to mention newer names like Anson Mount and Rebecca Romijn.
While a who's who of names, most of whom weren't mentioned in the above paragraph because we simply don't have the time, they don't represent every major sci-fi name out there. There are brilliant and wonderful franchises outside of Star Trek that have their own stars. From V to Stargate, to Star Wars and Jurassic Park. After Star Trek: Nemesis flopped at the box office, that was the end of Star Trek: The Next Generation until the crew gathered together once again for the final season of Star Trek: Picard. After Nemesis, though, Brent Spiner and John Logan had an idea for another movie that would have brought all of the captains from all of the series, crews, and villains together for one epic battle. [via Fandomwire] Not surprisingly, Paramount deemed it too expensive to produce so the idea wasn't considered further. But things have changed over the years, and with Paramount+ interested in streaming movies, this could be the perfect time to revisit Spiner and Logan's idea.
We now have four additional captains that could be added to the set-up, which could include Captain Burnham [Sonequa Martin-Green], Captain Seven of Nine [Jeri Ryan], Captain Pike [Anson Mount], and Captain Freeman [Dawnn Lewis]. Or the four could...

In Star Trek: Discovery, Phillipa Georgiou [Michelle Yeoh] had to leave Michael Burnham [Sonequa Martin-Green] and the rest of the Discovery crew behind when her body began rejecting the time jump to the 32nd century. Yeoh's character was written out in season three of Star Trek: Discovery, and she was supposed to star in a series based around her character and Section 31. That changed, though, and Paramount+ decided to go with a streaming channel movie instead which began filming in January 2024. And now, the release date for the movie has finally been announced!
According to Deadline, Section 31 will air on Paramount+ on January 24, 2025 both in the US and international markets where available. Since there are not usually any set times for a streaming channel drop, most likely the movie will be available after midnight on the 24th.

Paramount+ today debuted the official trailer for the fifth and final season of its hit animated comedy series Star Trek: Lower Decks. The fifth and final season will premiere on Paramount+ with two episodes on Thursday, October 24, in the U.S. and internationally.
Following the premiere, new episodes of the 10-episode-long season will drop every Thursday on the service leading up to the series finale on Thursday, December 19.
In season five of Star Trek: Lower Decks, the crew of the U.S.S. Cerritos is tasked with closing “space potholes” – subspace rifts that are causing chaos in the Alpha Quadrant. Pothole duty would be easy for Junior Officers Mariner, Boimler, Tendi, and Rutherford … If they didn’t also have to deal with an Orion war, furious Klingons, diplomatic catastrophes, murder mysteries, and scariest of all: their own career aspirations.

The Bold and the Beautiful alum Kiara Barnes is returning to the small screen. She nabbed another acting role with Fox’s American crime drama Accused.
What Happened to Zoe Buckingham?
It’s been a while since fans saw Barnes on the daytime soap. The last time Zoe appeared was in July 2021. Her sister Paris (Diamond White) told her about Carter’s (Lawrence Saint-Victor) affair with Quinn (Rena Sofer), who was married to Eric (John McCook) at the time. Zoe assumed that Carter was sleeping with Shauna (Denise Richards).
Zoe had enough of Los Angeles and the constant drama. She ultimately broke up with Carter and left town. Zoe has been spending time in London with her mother. It’s also likely that Zoe got word about Paris’s surprise engagement to Thomas (Matthew Atkinson).

Star Trek: Discovery really had themselves a chance to make a new show that continued the legacy of the franchise, enthralling us with new and vibrant stories. Instead, it was yet another prequel that no one asked for. It may have had a shot, but the show did everything it could to turn off established fans. Unfortunately, due to poor management, genuine talents like series star Sonequa Martin-Green bore the brunt of the backlash.
She was, after all, the starring character of the franchise; Michael Burnham. Despite an awful character name, there was hope. After all, Martin-Green was in demand coming off of her role on The Walking Dead. They got a true talent to star in their new Trek series. Why not? Yet, the character was poorly written and given way too many myths and canon-breaking attachments that rubbed fans the wrong way.

We finally have a complete cast list for Accused season 2, so here’s a look at who’s starring in the second season of the Fox hit!
Based on a British show, Accused premiered in 2023 on Fox and quickly became a success. The anthology series opens with a person on trial and flashbacks showing how they got to this point. The storylines are unique, with the crime often not what viewers expected and not always having a happy ending.
The show did well in the ratings and is set for a second season. It was delayed due to the 2023 Hollywood strikes, with Fox deciding to hold it off until this fall. As with season 1, each episode features a brand new guest cast with a new storyline.
It is confirmed that Emmy winner Michael Chiklis, who starred in the pilot episode, will return for season 2 but in a different part. He...

Despite being one of the oldest characters in Star Trek history, Captain Christopher Pike wasn't really a compelling character until Anson Mount took the role in Season 2 of Star Trek: Discovery. Even then, it has taken Star Trek: Strange New Worlds for Pike to really come into his own as a likable, inspirational lead character. Part of this is because he's not exactly like previous versions of Pike.
Captain Pike first appeared in the original Star Trek pilot episode, "The Cage." Portrayed by Jeffrey Hunter, this Pike was irritable and brooding. He was not only isolated from his crew but openly adversarial with various members. While "The Cage" is an interesting episode overall, it is reasonable to say that this Captain Pike is not really all that fun to watch.
Of course, various elements of "The Cage" got repurposed into the 2-part Original Series episode "The Menagerie." This offered a...

The Deadliest Catch captains found themselves in deep water on the upcoming episode of Celebrity Family Feud as a tricky question about strip clubs left them floundering. Captains Sig Hansen, Keith Colburn, Jake Anderson, “Wild” Bill Wichrowski, and Johnathan Hillstrand will appear on Monday’s (September 16) 3-hour primetime Family Feud event on ABC, where they will face off against Star Trek universe actors Wilson Cruz, Celia Rose Gooding, Wil Wheaton, Dawnn Lewis, and Sonequa Martin-Green. In a clip shared by Entertainment Weekly, the Discovery Channel stars are asked by host Steve Harvey to “name something in a strip club a man might like to have in his man cave.” This question proves especially difficult for Anderson, who can only come up with “bra.” After Harvey reacts to the audience’s stunned response, Anderson adds, “I can’t believe underwear didn’t go on there.” The Deadliest Catch guys receive a...

Star Trek is a wonderful franchise, filled with beautifully written characters, compelling storylines, and incredible concepts that get brought to life. Across weeks, months, years, and decades, Star Trek has delivered some of the best writing that not only science fiction has ever seen but entertainment has ever seen. Some of the best stories that you can find in this world happen in the run time of a Star Trek property.
That's made possible thanks in part to the dynamic and enthralling characters that make up this wonderful little universe of ours. Yet, they don't always get it right from the jump. Sometimes plots fall apart, characters don't get over and entire concepts fall asunder.
The issue with that, usually, is a poor starting point. Getting it right from the beginning matters. Trying to create a dynamic character, while making them unique and still familiar is hard. It's so hard...

When Star Trek: Discovery debuted in 2017, the producers and team behind it knew the show had big shoes to fill. They could have slid into the mold and tried to recreate Star Trek: The Next Generation. Maybe more fans would have liked it that way, but in all fairness, everything changes. No Star Trek series has been the same since The Original Series. And they all had things about them that some people didn't like.
Star Trek: Deep Space Nine took a big risk by setting the series on a space station instead of having the crew aboard a spaceship, and some people have said that Gene Roddenberry would never have approved of it. But it amassed fans who remained dedicated watchers to this day...all because it took a risk, which is exactly what Discovery did.
Were there highs and lows? Absolutely. Some things that worked and others that didn't?...

Briarcliff Entertainment announced on Wednesday that its dark veteran dramedy My Dead Friend Zoe, starring Sonequa Martin-Green, Natalie Morales and Ed Harris, will now open in theaters nationwide on February 28, 2025.
Exec produced by Travis Kelce, the film, which won the Audience Award in its SXSW world premiere, had previously been scheduled to open on November 1.
Marking the directorial debut of Kyle Hausmann-Stokes, a former U.S. Army infantry paratrooper and Iraq War Bronze Star veteran, My Dead Friend Zoe follows the journey of Merit (Martin-Green), a U.S. Army Afghanistan veteran who is at odds with her family thanks to the presence of Zoe (Morales), her dead best friend from the Army. Despite the persistence of her Va group counselor (Morgan Freeman), the tough love of her mother (Gloria Reuben) and the levity of an unexpected love interest, Merit’s cozy-dysfunctional friendship with Zoe keeps the duo insulated from the world.

Star Trek's newest era has not been the most universally acclaimed version of the era. The series has seen seven shows and counting announced and or begun filming since 2017. Each show has been received pretty differently from one another. Some shows, like Strange New Worlds and Prodigy, are beloved for their refreshing but familiar takes on the franchise.
Others, like Lower Decks and Short Treks, intrigued fans for their uniqueness and ability to expand the universe. Then there are shows like Picard and Discovery that did more harm than good to the health of the franchise.
That doesn't mean every show is without merit, nor does it mean that the worst shows in the Nu Era of Star Trek don't have some redeeming qualities. Yet, the desire to expand ideas past their original inception and add nuance to a variety of factors didn't sit well with a lot of fans.

Star Trek: Discovery premiered back in 2017 and was the 7th Star Trek show, and the 6th live-action series to have been released. It marked a new era for fans of the long-running space saga, set a decade before the events of the original Star Trek.
Regardless, Star Trek: Discovery has received more than its fair share of criticism. This is majorly due to its commitment to move away from the original narrative, and the unfamiliarity of the universe as far as its eventual 32nd century setting was concerned.
Still, the show has also been critically lauded, and one of the reasons has been the introduction of several memorable characters who have become an integral part of Star Trek as a whole.

In the "Star Trek: Discovery" episode "Face the Strange," Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) becomes inexplicably unstuck in time. First, she is thrown from the 32nd century back to the 23rd century events of "Such Sweet Sorrow Part 2," when the USS Discovery was embroiled in a deadly battle with a malevolent machine intelligence called Control. Then she's thrown even further back, to when the USS Discovery was first being built. Then forward again, to the "Sweet Sorrow" battle. It's all very confusing.
Burnham and a fellow time-stranded coworker, Reyner (Callum Kieth Rennie), eventually find that the Discovery is infected by a bug called a Krenim chronophage that essentially eats time. Its machinations have snared the Discovery in a time tangle, leaving it distracted and unable to move while some weapons-seeking bad guys flee the ship's righteous investigations. Gene Roddenberry’s Star Trek is a testament to rich storytelling that has featured a diverse universe showcasing rich and diverse cultures that explore the human condition. At the core of the series, it delves deep into social and ethical questions that resonate deeply with its viewers. When the series was given the greenlight, there were speculations from certain fans regarding the timeline that it was set in as they believed that prequels were becoming redundant. The show though, took a risky and bold decision regarding the time factor after two seasons that allowed them to work without the pressure of continuity while also creating a whole new narrative that could be freshly developed.

When "Star Trek: Discovery" signed off last month, it left a few character arcs hanging. That's because the show's cancellation wasn't announced until season 5 had already wrapped, leading to a season finale that was reworked into a series finale with the help of quick rewrites and some additional footage.
Luckily, several main characters still got their happy ending despite the Paramount+ bait-and-switch, and Blu del Barrio's ensign Adira Tal was one of them. Adira joined the Discovery crew as an orphan with a Trill symbiont for a boyfriend. By season 5's ending, Adira had come into their own as a member of the crew, found a family in the form of parent figures Paul Stamets (Anthony Rapp) and Hugh Culber (Wilson Cruz), and amicably ended things with their partner, Gray (Ian Alexander), after he was separated from them and placed into a body of his own.

"Star Trek: Discovery" came to an end this week after a five season run that included some soaring highs, low lows, and, above all else, big swings. Debuting in 2017, "Discovery" was the first of a new wave of "Trek" shows that would come to define the franchise for modern viewers. It did so ambitiously, but it didn't always work for everyone -- especially in the early days. In a new interview with the LA Times, Alex Kurtzman, "Discovery" co-showrunner and head of "Trek" at Paramount+, spoke frankly about the show's initially so-so reception and explained why he thought it might not have worked for "Trek" fans at first.
"I think people felt it was too dark," Kurtzman explained, echoing a sentiment that's popped up in plenty of reactions to the series over the years. While the vast majority of critics have given the show positive reviews over the years, early...
