Witchcraft, nudity, a scene dubbed the "Rape of Christ", Vanessa Redgrave as a masturbating nun... it's hardly surprising that Ken Russell's The Devils fell foul of censors and was slapped with an X certificate on its initial release in 1971.
Film critic Mark Kermode uncovered lost footage in the early '00s and has been championing a full re-release of Russell's original cut ever since.
Various different edits and incarnations exist across DVD, but The Devils has barely seen the light of day in cinemas.
Beyond Fest last night (October 8) presented rare 35mm print of the film in its original X-rated form.
The screening is only the third time The Devils has been shown in cinemas in the Us, and it swiftly sent social media abuzz with film fans calling for Warner Bros to bring it back to the big screen.
This is why @wbpictures should release The Devils:...

Alternate Ending Studios President and CEO Jason Krawczyk writes and directs this gritty SXSW Midnighters entry starring punk icon and raconteur Henry Rollins as a cannibal with a conscience. Produced by Zach Hagen and co-starring Steven Ogg, Kate Greenhouse, BooBoo Stewart and Jordan Todosey, "He Never Died" world-premieres at the festival on Tuesday, March 17. Here's the official synopsis, along with a clip: "Jack’s in a rut. Depression and severe anti-social behavior has whittled down his existence to sleeping and watching television. Seeing the human race as little more than meat with a pulse, Jack has no interest to bond with anyone. There’s little purpose for him to make friends with someone he’d eventually eat or outlive by more than a millennia. The fuse is lit when Jack's past comes back to rattle him. Jack must now walk a tight rope of sobriety and try to eat as...

Just last week I had the chance to visit the set of He Never Died, the Jason Krawczyk directed indie with punk rock icon Henry Rollins in the lead role. I had the chance to sit and chat with Rollins a bit and while we'll be waiting for the film to turn up on the festival circuit to share that conversation the first official still from the film has now been released along with word that principal photography has wrapped. They shot this bit the day before I was there and the blood stains were still plainly visible on the floor. Producers Adam J. Shully of 108 Media and Zach Hagen of Alternate Ending studios wrapped principal photography this week in Toronto on the previously...
