Once again, the alt-right’s resident big-word bullshitter has abused Twitter’s character limit like it’s a 16-year-old girl.
On Monday, accused serial rapist and conservative conspiracy grifter Russell Brand desperately attempted to insert himself in the online discourse over the upcoming American election, despite Brand being a U.K. citizen whose opinion on our democracy hasn’t mattered since 1783. Brand, whose alleged and long history of sexual harassment, abuse and assault of numerous women stretching back to the early aughts is the subject of the documentary Russell Brand: In Plain Sight, tweeted a rambling, pretentious and sesquipedalian takedown of Vice President Kamala Harris that was riddled with embarrassing malapropisms and spelling errors as he called Harris’ potential candidacy for U.S. President a “cutaneous and genetic novelty to a famished pack of secularist devotees so bewildered that melatonin and an ‘X chromosome’ could represent to them some kind of pyrrhic victory.

Kendall. Robinson. Duker. Ó’Briain. Martin. The fight is On.
The winners of Taskmaster series 11-15 are currently doing sit-ups, drinking pints of raw egg, and running up and down the steps outside Chiswick Library. They’re in training for Taskmaster’s third Champion of Champions contest.
A little reminder of the contenders for this title now, on account of the internet having destroyed everybody’s attention spans, and shrunk our ability to retain information for longer than it takes a toaster to pop.
Champion of Champions 3 Line-Up Sarah Kendall
Representing series 11 is the magnificently-maned Sarah Kendall, Australian comic, writer and actor. She’s technically the dunce of this operation going in with a whole-series points score of just 158, but a dynamite chick like her isn’t about to let that get in the way. Those who enjoy the Everyone Else Burns series don't have to worry about it being cancelled right now. The show was renewed for a second season before even the first episode had aired. That being said, The CW's new management looks closely at how well a show is performing in the ratings and has dropped several low-rated shows mid-season. Could that happen to Everyone Else Burns? Stay tuned.

For nearly two decades, The CW wasn’t TV’s most popular network — outside of carefully curated demographics — but it might have been the network most confident in its brand. Shows on The CW looked and felt like they were shows that could exist only on The CW.
Currently, I struggle to find the proper analogy to describe the grab bag of acquisitions that fill The CW’s schedule since the network was acquired by the Nexstar Media Group.
Is the process of surfing through the CW slate, trying to guess a program’s origins, like taking a road trip with the family and playing the license plate game? “There’s New Mexico! There’s British Columbia! How did New Brunswick get all the way over here?”
Or is The CW’s strategy of picking up motley offerings that weren’t on the radar of Netflix or Hulu or Max...

Imagine being someone who’s never seen Taskmaster. A virgin to joy. Someone whose eyes have never before drunk in the sight of a banana-Noel Fielding hiding in a fruit bowl, of Joe Wilkinson presenting the mayor of Chesham with 42 Calippo ice lollies, or of Charlotte Ritchie stumbling around a golf course blindfolded like an adorable Minion. What promise awaits! The prize tasks, the flashes of creative genius, the glorious failures… Alex Horne’s challenge-based comedy panel show is one of the most reliably entertaining TV programmes ever made.

Exclusive: The CW has picked up Everyone Else Burns, Channel 4’s apocalypse comedy about a religious sect starring Friday Night Dinner’s Simon Bird.
The show, which was the first to come from Emily in Paris producer Jax Media’s UK office and is co-produced with Universal International Studios, is expected to be be unveiled as part of the network’s fall lineup.
Penned by up-and-comers Dillon Mapletoft and Oliver Taylor, Everyone Else Burns stars Bird as David, a misguided patriarch living in a small religious sect in Manchester. David, who believes the world will end in apocalypse, is losing a grip over his family, with each character going on their own personal journey with regard their hyper-religious upbringing. Kate O’Flynn, Lolly Adefope, Kadiff Kirwan and Morgana Robinson also star.
Everyone Else Burns was well received by critics and achieved decent ratings when it aired on Channel 4 earlier this year.

King Charles might want to look away. “The Windsors” – Channel 4’s satirical comedy series about the British royal family – is returning for a fourth season, with comedian Harry Enfield set to reprise his role as the hapless Charles.
Variety understands work got underway on a fourth season last May but the creative team were sidetracked by the death of Queen Elizabeth II in September and her son Prince Charles’s succession to the throne. “The Windsors” team are set to mark Charles’s coronation next month with a feature-length special, which recently wrapped.
A rep for Channel 4 said a fourth season hadn’t yet been confirmed but Variety understands that the team are planning to start shooting later this year or early 2024. And while the show will not feature the latest generation of royals, which include William and Kate’s children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, some...

Never before in the field of entertainment was so much owed by so many to so few. The comedians who appear on Taskmaster are brave souls willing to expose the inner workings of their minds for the sake of dumb fun (and a boost in tour and book sales).
Taskmaster is a great leveller that celebrates both genius and failure. There’s nowhere to hide. You can start off in week one as a famed intellectual, by week eight you’re the man who couldn’t successfully hide an aubergine. Exude cool as a stand-up on stage in your professional career? Try to maintain that composure while competitively throwing wet teabags into a mug and let’s see who’s the cool guy now.

As if King Charles III didn’t already have enough drama in his life, between his logorrheic son Prince Harry and disgraced brother Prince Andrew, comedian Harry Enfield is set to unleash a little more chaos ahead of the coronation in May.
Enfield’s Channel 4 comedy “The Windsors” is returning for a coronation special, with the comedian set to reprise his role as the monarch.
“Charles’ whole life has been building up to this moment and he wants the U.K.’s first coronation in seventy years to be a spectacular affair with all the pomp and circumstance he deserves,” reads the logline. “As does his Queen Consort Camilla (Haydn Gwynne), who can’t wait to drape herself in diamonds and fur. Sadly, the U.K. is in the middle of a cost of living crisis and Wills (Hugh Skinner) thinks the coronation should reflect these more straitened times.”

Warning: this article contains plot details for Everyone Else Burns
‘We’ll meet the congregation, we’ll pray, shelter, and eventually bury the corpses of the sinful dead. It’s going to be very special.’
These are the words mum Fiona uses to describe the plan to her terrified daughter in the opening scenes of Everyone Else Burns, as dad David takes them on what the children don’t yet realise is a middle-of-the-night apocalypse training exercise rather than the real thing.
As sitcom openings go, it throws us straight into the action, and while the scene is disappointingly lacking in decent jokes, Channel 4’s latest comedy confidently establishes the Lewis family’s life in a super-strict apocalyptic religious cult.
Such speedy exposition involves some heavy-handedness as we meet pompous patriarch David, long-suffering wife Fiona (Kate O’Flynn), their anxious teenager Rachel and apocalypse-hungry young son Aaron (Harry Connor). The...

Matt Berry, the Englishman known for his trademark epic, boomy voice, has always embraced a unique persona ever since his first start on stage. Despite and indeed because of his highly theatrical delivery, the actor mostly appears in comedic roles, such as title character Steven Toast on "Toast of London," the incompetent CEO Douglas Reynholm in "The It Crowd," and most recently and perhaps famously, the horny vampire Laszlo on "What We Do in the Shadows."
The contrast between his royal-like demeanor and his penchant for absurdity defines Berry's humor. "Cigars, whiskey, open fire, Shakespeare, but all in the shape of a big hairy bear," sums up his "Toast of London" co-star Morgana Robinson. Ensemble study of film professionals struggling with enforced isolation features some good performances but doesn’t really come together
There are some heartfelt performances and vignettes in this debut feature from producer-turned-director Kirsty Bell and writers Elizabeth Morris and Dominic Wells – and certainly some lustrous monochrome images from cinematographer Sergio Delgado. But this lockdown ensemble piece about a movie production stymied by Covid is self-conscious and doesn’t really come together, and the tonal shifts can be a little uncomfortable.
Camilla Rutherford plays Rebecca, an actor who gives a great performance in a film shoot that wraps just before the coronavirus restrictions land, but then succumbs to depression due to loneliness, unemployment and suspicion that this film will never see the light of day. Meanwhile kindly fellow actor David (Derek Jacobi) is all alone in his south of France villa and facing problems of his own. Editor Lucy (Morgana Robinson...

Google, it is reported, offers employees gourmet dining experiences on its campus. Apple, meanwhile, hired Stevie Wonder to play for its workforce. If the BBC is considering introducing a new employee perk to energise its staff, I’d like to suggest complimentary couples counselling. After the critically acclaimed misery of Stefan Golaszewski’s Marriage last month, comes the lighter companion piece, Stuck, a sitcom about the claustrophobia of cohabitation.
Dylan Moran is Dan, a recently laid-off jingle writer struggling to get his life back on track. He pairs a world-weary cynicism with a skittish energy, not dissimilar to the...

Dylan Moran, who wrote and starred in cult show “Black Books” alongside Bill Bailey, is returning to television with a new comedy series “Stuck,” starring Morgana Robinson (“The Windsors”).
The series, which will begin shooting in Belfast this month, is described as “sometimes dark, sometimes surreal.” It is produced by Hat Trick Productions with Ian FitzGibbon (“Hullraisers”) set to direct.
“Stuck” explores the relationship between Dan (played by Moran) and Carla (Robinson) a couple with an age gap who are at a cross-roads. Dan has been made redundant; Carla is dissatisfied with her life. When Carla’s ex-girlfriend Maya re-appears, things start to get even more tricky.
As well as “Black Books,” Moran has appeared in “Shaun of the Dead,” “Notting Hill” and TV series “Uncle.” He can currently be seen as Uthrok One-Nut in “The Witcher: Blood Origin.”

Ding ding, everybody off the Taskmaster bus! New passengers incoming! Series 12 – which taught us that Victoria Coren-Mitchell never learned how to ride a bike, Guz Khan owns more framed portraits of himself than is sensible, Desiree Burch can’t burst a balloon with a fork to save her life, Morgana Robinson is able to get goose bumps at will and Alan Davies still has a Jonathan Creek wig in his loft – has reached its climax. One lucky winner has skipped away merrily with the Taskmaster’s gleaming head as a prize and plenty of time to prepare for the inevitable Series 11-15 Champion of Champions special. Meanwhile the other four have skipped away safe in the knowledge that nobody is ever again likely to ask them to sit on a cake.
That means it’s time for the next line-up, which is confirmed to feature (in alphabetical first name order): Ardal O’Hanlon,...

All change! No sooner had Mike Wozniak charmed the nation by undermining a vole, and put us all off our tea with his downstairs casserole, than it was all over. The current cohort of Taskmaster contestants have finished their last task, and it’s time for a new set of contenders. Please give a warm welcome to series 12 contestants: Desiree Burch, Victoria Coren-Mitchell, Alan Davies, Guz Khan and Morgana Robinson.
Series 12 is set to air at an unconfirmed date later this year on Taskmaster’s still-relatively new home of Channel 4. It’s “Coming Soon” according to the post-finale teaser.
Also arriving in 2021 is the show’s second Champion of Champions special miniseries. That one is set to welcome back the overall winners from series six to ten: Ed Gamble, Lou Sanders, Kerry Godliman, Liza Tarbuck and Richard Herring. When most of us love something – a film, a band, a football team – we express that love by wearing the t-shirt or getting a tattoo. When Nick Frost, Simon Pegg and their mates love something, they express it by making a feature film trilogy. Or a cult 90s TV series. Or eight-part comedy-horror Truth Seekers.
Truth Seekers, co-created by Frost, Pegg, Nat Saunders and James Serafinowicz, is the product of fandom. It’s a bundle of admiration for horror in all guises, from the shonky DIY of Most Haunted to cultivated glitch and found-footage movie scares, to the recently revived anthology tradition. It has a go at recreating it all, tipping its hat so often that it can’t quite juggle the rest of its ambitions because its hand is already too full of hat.

"Witches!! They're real - and they haaaate children!" Warner Bros has unveiled the first official trailer for Roald Dahl's The Witches, a new live-action movie directed by the iconic filmmaker Robert Zemeckis (who most recently made Welcome to Marwen). Based on Roald Dahl's 1983 classic book "The Witches", the story tells the scary, funny and imaginative tale of a seven year old boy who has a run in with some real life witches. This isn't really a horror movie about scary witches, as much as it is a lively comedy (and something akin more to Harry Potter involving witch magic and a Grand High Witch and more). The extravagant cast features Anne Hathaway as the Grand High Witch, plus Octavia Spencer, Stanley Tucci, Kristin Chenoweth, Chris Rock, Charles Edwards, Morgana Robinson, plus newcomers Jahzir Kadeem Bruno (playing the boy at the center of the story) and Codie-Lei Eastick. Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer's sitcom House of Fools has been axed by the BBC.
The broadcaster confirmed that the comedy won't be returning to BBC Two, following the conclusion of its second series back in March.
A spokeswoman told the Radio Times: "BBC Two and BBC Comedy would like to thank Vic, Bob, [producer] Lisa Clark and everyone else involved in making House of Fools, but after two fantastically inventive series the show won't be returning."
It is thought that it was the comedy's underwhelming ratings that led to its cancellation. The first episode attracted an audience of 1.27 million in 2014, but figures quickly fell below the million mark.
The second series averaged one million viewers, but that wasn't enough to get a renewal.

Tracey Ullman's last BBC series - A Kick up the Eighties and Three of a Kind - aired in the 1980s, after which she concentrated on a Us TV career.
The actress and comedian - who will portray various characters living in, or visiting, the UK - said: "It's a privilege to be doing this. I still feel as inspired to inhabit people as I did when I was 6, standing on the window sill in my mother's bedroom, putting on a show.
"The BBC has changed a bit since the last time I worked here, when it was all men in bow ties who had completed National Service. Now there are a lot more women. Great ones.
"The important things haven't changed, though. The BBC still provides an environment that allows you...

Ruth Jones is developing a new sitcom for BBC One, it has been revealed.
BBC comedy controller Shane Allen has confirmed that the Gavin & Stacey co-creator and star will front a new show, that may form part of a second season of Comedy Playhouse projects in 2015.
He added that Jones's company Tidy Productions may choose to produce a non-transmission pilot episode.
"Ruth is fantastic and we'd love to do something with her," he told Broadcast. "We were talking studio shows and she would be absolutely perfect for that."
Meanwhile, Allen has ordered six episodes of The Kennedys, a sitcom written by Celebrity MasterChef winner Emma Kennedy. The show will be based on her family life.
iPlayer will also stream a second series of comedy shorts, following this year's sketches from the likes of Frankie Boyle and Micky Flanagan. They will be released around Valentine's Day.
