This past Saturday, I was counted among the many who made their way to Mbt Expo Center for the latest extravaganza put on by The Monroe Pop Fest (formerly Monroe Comic-Con). Even though I’m no stranger to covering events in the state of Michigan, this was actually only my second time attending this particular one. I was able to stay for only a fraction of the day on the previous occasion, so I was doubly excited knowing I would be hanging around for the entire day this time.

If you’re also from the Metro Detroit area or live in its vicinity, then you’ve probably at least attended the bigger shows like Motor City Comic Con, Michigan Comic Convention or Youmacon. Though it sure did take some time, I was finally able to cross the Monroe Comic-Con off my list of events I’ve attended and covered. Like many other lovers of pop culture, I, too, was there at the Mbt Expo Center in Monroe, Michigan this past Saturday in order to experience one of the most talked about one-day shows in the area – and I was not disappointed.

If you’ve yet to take in this one for yourself, know that while it’s technically a smaller convention, it does capture the feeling of larger ones in various respects. To be succinct, a sizable showroom floor is populated by many vendors and crafters, thus allowing you to get your fix if indeed you feel like dropping some cash on comics and toys. In addition to those requisites, celebrity guests and comic book creators were on hand, should attendees wish to score some autographs.

During my years of attending and covering conventions in southeast Michigan, there’s been one event in particular that’s somehow eluded me, that being Monroe Comic-Con.

Fortunately, I’ll be able to check off that box very shortly when I count myself among those filing into the Mbt Expo Center on September 15th. For some time, I’ve heard stories from others recalling the great times they’ve had, so it’ll be a pleasure of mine to share my experience with We Got This Covered’s readers.

Having paid attention to social media and checking out the show’s official website, it sure does look like there’ll be a lot of ground to cover in one day, but I’m certainly up to the challenge.
