Sex Positive (2008)

Joseph Adolph Sonnabend (6 January 1933 - 24 January 2021) was a South African physician, scientist and HIV/AIDS researcher, notable for pioneering community-based research, the propagation of safe sex to prevent infection, and an early multifactorial model of AIDS. He was widely respected as a pioneering and compassionate clinician and researcher.

He studied medicine at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, and studied microbiology and immunology in the UK. He joined the faculty at Mount Sinai Medical School in New York, worked in the city's health department, and volunteered at a clinic for gay men in Greenwich Village before opening his own practice there.
