Goonies never say die! But we’re still interested in what else they have to say. And this will all come true for die-hard fans of The Goonies, as a feature-length documentary on the making and legacy of the 1985 adventure favorite is currently in development through a Kickstarter campaign. With less than two months until the campaign ends, none other than Mikey Walsh, Sean Astin, is calling for any remaining support there is and ensuring he’ll take part.

Posting on social media to promote the documentary – currently titled Life After The Goonies – Sean Astin wrote, “I enthusiastically support this Goonies documentary. I hope you all can donate a few bucks so it can get made. I can’t wait to participate. I can’t wait to see the interviews she’s already done…in particular with Richard Donner our Director. I’ve never seen it. Only a couple days left on the campaign…...

‘Life After Flash,’ Life After The Navigator’ and ‘Life After The Never Ending Story’ filmmaker, Lisa Downs is now embarking on another crowdfunded project with the documentary ‘Life After The Goonies’ for it’s 40th anniversary.

With the backing of one of the movie’s stars, Sean Astin, who Downs approached with the proposal recently at the Liverpool Comic Con, the doc will be the definitive documentary celebrating one of the greatest movies to come out of the 80’s.

By conducting interviews with the cast, crew, and fans, this documentary intends to provide an in-depth look behind the scenes of the production process, highlighting the significant efforts involved in creating such a timeless classic.

Moreover, it seeks to honour the enduring legacy of Richard Donner, often regarded as the unseen Goonie and, to many, the most significant one.

Life After The Goonies will explore the life and legacy of one of the most iconic films of the 1980s, featuring interviews with key figures in the production – including the late Richard Donner himself.

Wolfgang Petersen’s The NeverEnding Story is one of those films that’s taken on a life of its own since its release. The most expensive film produced outside of the US or the Ussr back in 1984, the decidedly odd story of a young boy and his puppet-filled quest to stop an indescribable evil has developed something of a cult following despite – or perhaps because of – its occasionally hallucinogenic tale of flying goblins and drowning horses.

Perfect fodder, then, for the Life After treatment. Hot on the tail of Life After Flash and Life After The Navigator, director Lisa Downs and Life After Movies’ latest documentary takes a look at the legacy of one of the most beloved fantasy films of the 1980s, exploring the life of its child star, Noah Hathaway in the years since.

The Boston Science Fiction Film Festival — the longest running genre fest in America — kicks off its 49th annual event this Wednesday, February 14, and runs through Sunday, February 18, in Somerville, Ma.

Programming highlights include: the US premiere of Shatter Belt and a 10th anniversary screening of Coherence, both with director James Ward Byrkit; premieres of the documentaries Life After the Navigator and Life After The Neverending Story with director Lisa Downs; Faceless After Dark with director Raymond Wood and star Jenna Kanell (Terrifier); and a live Black Friday commentary by special effects legend Robert Kurtzman and director Casey Tebo.

Kicking off on Sunday at noon, the 24-hour marathon will feature Attack of the Crab Monsters, Black from the Past, Deep Blue Sea, Dredd, Lapsis, Mad Max, One Million B.C., Predestination, Ready Player One, The Matrix, Top of the Food Chain, Upgrade, and more.

Life After The Neverending Story is seeking funds now, and will explore 1984’s The Neverending Story.

Those who’ve watched Wolfgang Petersen’s 1984 family movie The Neverending Story will know all about one particularly traumatic sequence contained within it. No spoilers, but those of us who watched the film at a certain age know the moment we’re talking about. It almost makes Return To Oz look approachable.

Still, the aptly-named film – sequels did indeed follow – was an unusual production and a sizeable hit. A German film that found international favour, and a hit single too, it’s a genuine curiosity, and also a film that still stacks up.

Well, certainly the makers behind a new documentary hope so. Lisa Downs, a British filmmaker, is making Life After The Neverending Story, and she’s currently fundraising for the film.

To celebrate the release of Life After The Navigator, the new documentary from acclaimed filmmaker Lisa Downs, we sat down with the star and director of Disney’s classic sci-fi adventure, Flight of the Navigator.

First released in 1986, the film was directed by Randal Kleiser (Grease) and starred Joey Cramer as David Scott Freeman, a young man who awakens after falling into a ravine to discover that eight years have passed. In their investigations, NASA and the government find an alien spaceship crashed landed and that, somehow, is intertwined with David and his disappearance.

While the film wasn’t a huge box office success on its initial release, it has endured to become one the most beloved films of its kind of the 1980s. We spoke to Kleiser and Cramer about the film, its legacy and continued impact through DVD, Blu-ray, and now Disney+, and their lives after the film.
