Roadkill opens with a boy (Brody Barcellona; When Sharks Attack) getting some food from a refrigerator and sharing it with a cute dog. That doesn’t sit well with his mother who chases the boy back to the dog house where he lives telling him “That’s gonna cost you”. In the morning we see just what it cost as he wakes to his mother giggling over the dog with several butcher knives sticking out of it.
The film moves forward to the summer of 1983 and the boy has grown and is now a drifter referred to in the credits as The Hitchhiker. He crosses paths with The Driver, a young woman with a big muscle car who offers him a ride in return for directions...

Midnight in the Switchgrass presented me with a bit of a dilemma. After Cosmic Sin and Out of Death you can imagine the last thing I wanted to watch was another Bruce Willis film. But Megan Fox had impressed me in Till Death which made me want to see it. That and the fact it claimed to have a budget of $15,000,000 which should buy some decent production values convinced me to watch it.
Karl Helter (Bruce Willis; Die Hard) and Rebecca Lombardi (Megan Fox; Transformers) are FBI agents trying to crack a human trafficking ring. Things become complicated when they find that their case may be related to another investigation. Byron Crawford has been tracking the serial murderer who would become known as “The Truck Stop Killer” for years. But his...

The flashy editing and schlock-by-numbers plot leave not much to like here, including an uncomfortably exploitative element
Everything about this tawdry thriller feels dated, from the serial-killer premise that was all the rage back in the 1990s, to the mannerist editing that keeps inexplicably flashing back to earlier scenes in blink-and-you’ll-miss-it bursts, like some early 2000s film trying to ape the staccato style of 1970s indie cinema. Even the lead performers – Megan Fox, Emile Hirsch and Bruce Willis – were all big names a while ago and have slipped out of the limelight for different reasons. If there were still shops around where one could rent or buy videos or DVDs, this is the sort of movie you’d expect to see in the straight-to-retail bargain bin.
The plot, strictly by-numbers-schlock, revolves around the murder and disappearance of young women, several of them prostitutes, in Florida’s super-skeevy panhandle region.

I think Bruce Willis’ agent needs a raise—they are going above and beyond to make sure their client gets A-list billing no matter what project he takes. I’d estimate the actor has about five total minutes of screen-time in Midnight in the Switchgrass, a majority of which is his FBI agent (Karl Helter) being a tired and soon-to-be-retired mother hen for his much younger and more driven partner (Megan Fox’s Rebecca Lombardo). It’s a cushy gig that probably put a few bucks in his pocket while somehow also earning him second-billing and foreground placement on the poster despite the real lead (Emile Hirsch’s state cop Byron Crawford) barely receiving his name at the top. Temper your expectations, Willis fans. It’s a glorified cameo.

Stepping into the director’s chair for the first time is always a challenge, but for veteran TV and movie producer Randall Emmett that challenge was amplified by the Covid-19 pandemic. What was planned as an 18-day shoot, ultimately took a year thanks to shutdowns in various filming locales.
But launching the true crime thriller “Midnight in the Switchgrass” — starring Bruce Willis, Megan Fox, Emile Hirsch and Lukas Haas — has proven to be just as nerve-wracking, particularly due to the continued uncertainty around Covid.
“Considering what the world is still in, and now that things are escalating, I didn’t even think we were going to be able to have this [premiere], so that’s an amazing thing,” Emmett told Variety, Monday night, outside the Regal L.A. Live theater in downtown Los Angeles.

"I can set him up again." Lionsgate has unveiled an official trailer for a Florida serial killer thriller titled Midnight in the Switchgrass, the directorial debut of a veteran producer named Randall Emmett. An FBI agent and Florida State officer team up to investigate a string of unsolved murder cases. Bruce Willis stars as FBI agent Karl Helter, with Megan Fox as FBI agent Rebecca Lombardi. They team up with a cop for an undercover sting, but it goes horribly wrong, putting Lombardo in grave danger and pitting Crawford against a serial killer in a twisted game of cat and mouse. Also starring Lukas Haas, Machine Gun Kelly (aka Colson Baker), Caitlin Carmichael, and Sistine Stallone. This looks like it's straight out of the 90s, with that chat screen and everything about the plot, another "gotta catch that serial killer" story. Meh. Next. Exclusive: One week into production, the Randall Emmett-directed serial killer thriller Midnight In The Switchgrass has halted production in Puerto Rico, with cast and crew due to be flown home this afternoon. This becomes the third indie film this morning to halt because of the coronavirus scare, after the Paul Schrader-directed The Card Counter in Biloxi, Mississippi, and the Agc Studios thriller Geechee that was set to shoot this week in the Dominican Republic.
Emmett confirmed the postponement. The first time director said that the cast very much wanted to be there, but that the safety-first decision was made, because of the uncertainty surrounding the global pandemic. He was particularly upset to leave behind the crews in Puerto Rico which he said were first rate. He vowed that they will return once the scare is over, and continue the film. Chicago – Actor Frank Grillo is on the rise, as evidenced from his high profile supporting role in Marvel Studios “Captain America: Civil War” and portraying Sgt. Barnes in “The Purge” series of horror films. He recently has partnered in a production company (WarParty Films) and is the title character in their debut movie “Wheelman,” which is distributed and available now on Netflix, as part of their film group.
The “Wheelman” is also the debut film for writer/director Jeremy Rush, and currently has an 88% favorability rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Frank Grillo is the kind of guy you would trust with your life — or at least he seems like it.
The 52-year-old New York City native has cultivated a career out of playing someone you’d want in your corner — a small-town police chief, a commanding officer in the Army, and even a Marvel super villain — on screens both big and small. (For what it’s worth, his character in “Purge 3: Election Year” also passionately dedicated his life to protecting the first female president. Do with that what you will.)
But the secret to Grillo’s success goes beyond mastering the tough-guy-with-a-heart-of-gold act. There’s an authentic vulnerability to the characters he brings to life on screen, most recently Mma fighter-turned-trainer Alvey Kulina in the critically acclaimed DirecTV drama “Kingdom,” which concluded its four-season run earlier this year.

Here’s the latest trailer for writer/director Jeremy Rush’s forthcoming action thriller Wheelman – which is set to debut on Netflix – and stars Frank Grillo (as the titular character), Garrett Dillahunt and Caitlin Carmichael.
The wheelman is Grillo – a getaway driver thrust into a high stakes race-to-survive after a bank robbery goes terribly wrong. With a car full of money and his family on the line, the clock is ticking to figure out who double-crossed him, and the only person he can trust… his fourteen-year-old daughter. All reasons to think fast, and drive faster.
Wheelman premieres on Netflix on October 20th.

"You don't listen to me... you're gunna get hurt." Netflix has revealed a new full-length trailer for an action film titled Wheelman, about a "wheelman" getaway driver. We featured a teaser trailer for this last month, and here's the full trailer to follow that. Wheelman is told entirely from the perspective of the driver, with most shots inside the car, taking place over the course of one night and one bank robbery that goes terribly wrong. Frank Grillo plays the wheelman, co-starring Garret Dillahunt, Caitlin Carmichael, Wendy Moniz, and William Xifaras. This actually looks pretty damn good, and buzz from Fantastic Fest seems to indicate it might even exceed expectations. This really does look a lot like a grittier Baby Driver, though. Here's the official full-length trailer for Jeremy Rush's Wheelman, direct from Netflix's YouTube: You can still watch the first teaser trailer for Netflix's Wheelman here, to see a different take on this.

"Ready, Set, Go!" Netflix has unveiled an intense first teaser trailer for an action film titled Wheelman, about a "wheelman" getaway driver. We've already seen one great film this year about a getaway driver (Edgar Wright's Baby Driver, if you haven't seen it yet it's definitely recommended), so why not another? Wheelman seems to be told entirely from the perspective of the driver, with most shots inside the car, taking place over the course of one night and one bank robbery that goes terribly wrong. Frank Grillo stars as the wheelman, with a cast including Garret Dillahunt, Caitlin Carmichael, Wendy Moniz, and William Xifaras. This looks like it could be cool, or at least as a fun late night watch on Netflix. Fire up the engines. Here's the first teaser trailer (+ poster) for Jeremy Rush's Wheelman, direct from Netflix's YouTube: Frank Grillo stars as the wheelman, a getaway...

The movie also stars Garrett Dillahunt and Caitlin Carmichael.
Wheelman will be available for streaming on October 20. It was written and directed by Jeremy Rush. Grillo, Joe Carnahan (The Grey, The A-Team) serve as producers.

A girl is warned by her family to not leave their bunker, lest she runs into the monsters that now prowl the Earth. Curiosity has a way of pushing people to explore, however, and what this girl discovers above ground is not at all what she expects in the short film Monsters, which you can watch in its entirety right here on Daily Dead.
"The Twilight Zone… The Outer Limits… Alfred Hitchcock Presents… These stories shocked us, scared us, and forever imbedded themselves into our memories. They were social commentaries and morality tales, disguised as psychological thrillers. But where are these types of stories today?
The truth is, they don’t make them anymore. So we want to tell one of our own.
Monsters is a Twilight Zone style story for the modern world. It seethes with suspense from its first moment, all the way up to its jaw-dropping finale.

'Teacher of the Year' movie with Keegan-Michael Key. 'Teacher of the Year' movie: Smart and funny socially conscious comedy Teacher of the Year manages to pull off one of the more difficult balancing acts in filmmaking: it actually is smart while still being funny. Teacher of the Year is smart about education, both as a vocation and as an industry; and it's both character and dialogue funny, leaning heavily on the free-agent talents of Keegan-Michael Key, half of the comedy duo, Key and Peele. Of late, Key has been a valuable asset in a number of comedies looking for a boost, including a stand-out performance in Pitch Perfect 2, currently in theaters. In Teacher of the Year, his name is Principal Douche – though he insists on the french pronunciation. You can imagine the jokes.
