Three Shades of Brown World Premiere at the New York Indian Film Festival
Officially selected for the New York Indian Film Festival, British webseries Three Shades of Brown will hold its World Premiere in the United States on Tuesday 6th May 2014, being shown in its entirety as a stand-alone 40-minute film.

Receiving the good news before even the pilot episode was released, Creator Shai Hussain remarks, “It’s great to see the faith that Nyiff holds for Three Shades, selecting to screen it even before we had a chance to prove there was an audience for such material.”

The film will be shown with English subtitles, due to feedback that one of the character’s Northern dialects was difficult to understand for the American ear.

Shai Hussain will be flying over to attend the festival, alongside one of the show’s stars, Omar Khan, and Associate Producer Hena Hussain. Executive Producer Pulkit Datta will also be in attendance, whose latest short film Acetate Diary...

3 Shades of Brown Review
Directed by Shai Hussain, Three Shades of Brown is a comedy web series exploring the lives of three very different British Asians.

Already selected to be screened for the New York Film Festival, the London based web series explores what happens when Rude Boy Nas (an Asian who thinks he is “black”), Freshie Ravi (an Asian who is just too Desi) and Coconut Harry (an Asian who thinks he is “white”) move in together.

Not only filling the niche of much needed British Asian drama, Three Shades of Brown is also breaking the stereotype of Asians portrayed as the other- something profusely depicted in media.

As one random reviewer put it:

“Where’s the poverty? The honour killings? The forced marriages? The terrorists? This isn’t Asian at all!”

Scheduled to go online on the 14th of April 2014, 6pm BST, BollySpice were invited to preview 8 webisodes, with each being 3-6 minutes in duration.

Three Shades of Brown
Whether you are British or not, the ‘rude boy’, the ‘freshie’ and the ‘coconut’ have graced your life with their presence.

A ‘rude boy’ is that lawless South Asian lad who likes Ska or Reggae. In other words, a brown guy trying to be black. A coconut is yes indeed an oval brown seed of a tropical palm lined with white flesh. However, a ‘coconut’ is also a brown guy trying to be white. A ‘freshie’ is an immigrant who has just arrived in the country- that brown guy who is oblivious to how brown he is.

Now, here’s a question: What happens when a ‘rude boy’, a ‘freshie’ and a ‘coconut’ move into a London flat together?

Answer: Three Shades of Brown! Three highly conflicting personalities that can only spell Doom!

The multi talented DJ, writer and director Shai Hussain presents Three Shades of Brown, a comedy web...

Leila Roy actress quits 'Hollyoaks'
Hollyoaks (1995)
Hollyoaks actress Lena Kaur has quit the Channel 4 soap, Digital Spy can reveal. The 23-year-old, who has played art student Leila Roy since June 2008, took the decision to leave the teen serial to pursue other acting opportunities. Speaking exclusively to Digital Spy this afternoon, she said: "I decided to leave a while ago because I wanted to do something else. It's the same with every soap - you don't get time to rehearse, there are ups and down and it's so quick to film. You learn all the technical side of things, which is fabulous but for me, I want to move on." She continued: "It seems like a good time to go as projects are being commissioned that are big for Asian actors - the (more)...
