Hugh Jackman is a Marvel legend. His role as Wolverine has encompassed many changes in the superhero genre; the first "X-Men" was revolutionary, a precursor to movies like "The Dark Knight" that grounded these comic book characters and made them look and feel real. Then, in "Logan," Jackman helped give the genre legitimacy with a film recognized by The Academy, a movie so good, a rare gem with a definitive ending (even if "Deadpool & Wolverine" kind of undid it) and a highlight of the genre.
Of course, the "X-Men" franchise is not the only superhero title Jackman has been a part of. There's some where he essentially plays a superhero in a non-comic book movie, like the Easter Bunny in "Rise of the Guardians" that is essentially bunny Batman, or his very brief voice cameo in "Free Guy," a very bad movie with shoehorned-in superhero easter eggs. But there...

Deadline reports that a new comedy series based on Mel Brooks‘ Young Frankenstein is nearing a pilot order at FX. Titled Very Young Frankenstein, the project has Brooks’ blessing and comes from some of the team behind FX’s What We Do In the Shadows.
Brooks will also executive produce alongside Stefani Robinson, who will serve as writer and showrunner, Taika Waititi, who will helm the pilot, and Garrett Basch. Brooks’ producing partner Kevin Salter is also onboard as an executive producer, as is original Young Frankenstein producer Michael Gruskoff.
Young Frankenstein is an absolute classic. The spoof is hilarious, as you would expect, but it also pays loving tribute to the classic Universal Horror movies. The story follows Dr. Frederick Frankenstein—who insists it’s pronounced “Fronk-en-steen”—as he journeys to Transylvania after inheriting his grandfather’s castle. Once there, he finds himself drawn into his infamous ancestor Victor Frankenstein’s experiments,...

It might’ve taken light-years, but the stars have finally aligned and Spaceballs is officially getting a sequel, nearly four decades after the cult classic first hit theaters. Co-written by parody legend Mel Brooks, who’s also returning as the wise and merch-happy Yoghurt, the project is picking up speed under Amazon MGM Studios. This past week brought exciting updates, confirming the return of original starsRick Moranis, Bill Pullman, and Daphne Zuniga. Joining them are Keke Palmer and Josh Gad, brought on to possibly bridge the gap between generations in what promises to be a hilarious mix of old and new. However, there may be more familiar faces back in action, including a possible return of Tim Russ.
Spaceballs featured a star-studded ensemble, and among them was Russ, then best known to sci-fi fans as Lieutenant Commander Tuvok from Star Trek: Voyager. Russ played one of Dark Helmet’s troopers...

The long-awaited sequel to Mel Brooks’ 1987 spoof Spaceballsis coming in 2027. It’s already been confirmed that Brooks will reprise his role as Yogurt in the sequel, which is still without an official title. Rick Moranis, who hasn’t acted in decades, is returning to the big screen as Dark Helmet, and Bill Pullman will also be back as his Lone Starr character in the film that spoofed Star Wars and other science fiction titles.
Another actor, who is probably best known for his role as the highly logical Vulcan Tuvok in Star Trek: Voyager, and later in Star Trek: Picard, could also return for Spaceballs 2.Tim Russ took to social media to hint that he might be back on the big screen for the sequel. Even though Russ’ character had one scene that consisted of just four words, it was certainly a memorable one.

Earlier this week, Spaceballs director Mel Brooks announced that the sequel to the beloved Star Wars spoof we first heard about last year had set an official 2027 release date with a hilarious first teaser. We also got word that Brooks would be back as Yogurt, alongside Rick Moranis - who will be coming out of retirement for the movie - as Lord Dark Helmet and Bill Pullman as Lone Starr.
Keke Palmer (Nope) has also joined the production in a lead role.
Now, we have more major casting news, as THR reports that Thunderbolts* star Lewis Pullman is set to join his father in the sequel as the son of Lone Starr and Princess Vespa, Starburst. Daphne Zuniga has also been confirmed to return as the Princess.
The trade reveals that Palmer will play a character named Destiny, and will lead the movie alongside Pullman Jr.

Spaceballs 2is keeping it in the family when it comes to its cast. The latest news to surface suggests that Lewis Pullman is in talks to join the highly anticipated sequel, starring alongside his father, Bill Pullman, who is reprising his role as Lone Starr. The Thunderbolts* actor is looking to board the winged Winnebago piloted by Starr to reportedly play a character named Starburst. He is the son of Starr (Pullman) and Queen Vespa (Daphne Zuniga), so there is every chance Starr will be the one saying "I am your father," not Dark Helmet.
Never fear, Dark Helmet will be back wielding the Downside of the Schwartz as Rick Moranis is said to be coming out of retirement to reprise his role as the short-statured sinister one. Mel Brooks is also back as Yogurt, the beloved parody of Yoda, who will no doubt be dishing out his wisdom to all who will listen.

Almost a decade ago, Lewis Pullman began his acting career by appearing opposite dad Bill Pullman in the western The Ballad of Lefty Brown. Since then, he’s forged his own path, appearing in high-flying features such as Top Gun: Maverick and Marvel Studios’ The Thunderbolts* and earning an Emmy nomination for Lessons in Chemistry.
Now he is ready to reunite with his father onscreen and is in talks to star in the upcoming Spaceballs sequel.

It was preceded by a crawl discussing all the prequels, sequels, prequels of sequels, and more from Star Wars and other franchises like the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Avatar, and more.
This was not the only announcement for the beloved parody movie. As reported by Deadline, Rick Moranis and Bill Pullman look to be reprising their roles as Dark Helmet and Lone Starr. Keke Palmer is also joining the cast for an unknown role. They will join Josh Gad, who has already been confirmed to star in the movie and is one of the scriptwriters and producers for the film.

In 1987, Spaceballs came out in theaters. A satire of the Star Wars franchise, it didn't pull in a ton of money but became a cult classic years later on home video, where little kids like me watched it and laughed at the talking pizza people, the Wookie knockoff named Barf, the spaceship so big it took a full five minutes to float across the screen, and the rest. I saw Spaceballs before I saw Star Wars, and I've never regretted that for a second.
Now, 40 years later, a sequel is coming. Mel Brooks will no longer write or direct — that honor will go to director Josh Greenbaum and writers Benji Samit, Dan Hernandez, and Josh Gad — but he will return as Yogurt, the Yoda stand-in who knows as much about the mysterious power of the Schwartz as he does about merchandising. Per Deadline, Bill Pullman is on tap to return...

Spaceballs 2 is coming!
A sequel to the Mel Brooks film is moving forward, and members of the original cast will be returning after over three decades since the original.
We now know that Rick Moranis and Bill Pullman are both returning for Spaceballs 2, in their respective roles as Darth Helmet and Lone Starr.
Mel Brooks will reportedly return as his Yoda satire character, “Yogurt,” and may also be reprising his secondary role as the bumbling “President Skroob” of Planet Spaceball, per Deadline.
Keep reading to find out more…
Keke Palmer will join in an undisclosed role.
Rick has largely disappeared from Hollywood for years, last doing voice work in the ’00s for Brother Bear and Bob & Doug McKenzie. He only recently made an appearance in a Ryan Reynolds Mint Mobile ad. He also voiced Darth Helmet in a 2018 episode of The Goldbergs.

There has been an awakening in the Schwarts... have you felt it? Well, Amazon MGM Studios certainly has. Following the surprise reveal last June that legendary sci-fi spoof Spaceballs would be getting the sequel treatment from Josh Gad and Barb And Star director Josh Greenbaum, today has seen a slurry of exciting reveals that assure us they're not just doing this for the money — or even just for a shit load of money. Firstly, a surprise teaser for Spaceballs 2 released this afternoon, taking aim at Hollywood's reboot/sequel culture as 99-year-old legend Mel Brooks helped reveal a 2027 release date for the movie. Then, as if that weren't enough, Variety followed up with confirmation that Brooks will reprise the role of Yogurt in the 40-year-gestating movie, before Deadline sent our hype levels through the roof with word that actual Rick Moranis and actual Bill Pullman will both be back for this one,...

A year ago almost to the day, we learned that Mel Brooks and Josh Gad were developing a "Spaceballs" sequel. Though Brooks is getting up there in years (he'll turn 99 this month), he was apparently quite involved in the hilarious 2023 sequel series to his 1981 feature "History of the World: Part I," so there was every reason to believe the madcap maestro could play a significant creative role in this long-awaited follow-up to his 1987 hit if he so chose.
He is so choosing.

Today, Brooks took to Bluesky to announce that a "Spaceballs" sequel will be beaming into your local multiplex at some point in 2027. There's no official title right now, but I propose that the film be titled "The Schwartz Awakens," which is used as a tagline at the end of the (very funny) teaser.

Rick Moranis is on an acting hiatus no more! The actor is set to reprise his role as Dark Helmet, alongside fellow returning star Bill Pullman as Lone Starr, in Amazon MGM Studios' Spaceballs 2.
Deadline was the first to report on Moranis' return to acting. Following his wife's death in 1991, Moranis chose to largely step away from the industry to focus on raising his two children. Aside from the odd voice role, Moranis has not acted in a live-action movie since the 1997 direct-to-video sequel Honey, We Shrunk Ourselves. Moranis agreeing to come out of retirement for Spaceballs 2 comes after Sony was unsuccessful in getting the actor to make a cameo in the recent Ghostbusters legacy sequels.
Keke Palmer is also attached to the long-awaited sequel, although her role remains under wraps. It's unclear at this time if Palmer's role is the one that Wicked star Ariana Grande was previously offered.

May the Schwartz be with you! After IndieWire reported last June that a “Spaceballs” sequel was in the works, Amazon MGM has officially announced the follow-up to the 1987 “Star Wars” spoof film directed by Mel Brooks, as well as revealed that Brooks himself will be back to star.
The 98-year-old Brooks will star in the sequel to “Spaceballs,” reprising his role as Yoda…erm, Yogurt. Brooks also shared the news in a post on X, with a video message saying they asked “what do the fans want?”
“But instead, we’re making this movie,” Brooks joked. The video also had a “Star Wars” title crawl teasing all of the endless sequels and franchises that have come out in the nearly 40 years since “Spaceballs” first was released.

The Schwartz is truly with us all today! Not only is the iconic Mel Brooks returning as Yogurt for Amazon MGM Studio's highly anticipated Spaceballs 2, but some of the heavyweights from the first film are also back: Rick Moranis and Bill Pullman are reprising their respective roles as Dark Helmet and Lone Starr, according to Deadline, with Keke Palmer also joining the cast. This marks the first return to the screen for Moranis in years, so get ready to "watch evil triumph," as Dark Helmet says, because "good is dumb."
Plot details on the film remain unclear, but Moranis, Pullman and Brooks appear to be gearing up for more adventures on Druidia, decades after Pullman's Lone Starr first saved Princess Vespa (Daphne Zuniga) from the malicious Spaceballs in one of the most iconic Star Warsparodies ever made. The upcoming Spaceballs sequel will arrive in theaters in 2027, with Mel Brooks himself set to reprise his role as Yogurt, Amazon MGM Studios has announced. What’s more, Deadline reports that fellow Og cast members Rick Moranis and Bill Pullman will also appear in the sequel, reprising their roles as Dark Helmet and Lone Starr, respectively, while Keke Palmer is among the new cast members. Moranis’ involvement is particularly noteworthy as he has essentially been retired from acting since the mid-2000s.
Josh Greenbaum is directing the sequel from a script by Benji Samit, Dan Hernandez, and Josh Gad. It will arrive on the 40th anniversary of the original film, which was directed and co-written by Brooks.

Spaceballs 2 now has its release plan confirmed, and three key stars from the original are set to reprise their roles. Released in 1987, the original Spaceballs featured Mel Brooks as director and co-writer, with the film serving as a clear parody of Star Wars. It was rumored that Gad would also star in the film.

Josh Gad's Spaceballs sequel has its first returning cast member. Comedy legend Mel Brooks, who co-wrote and directed the original film, will be returning to play the Yoda-like sage Yogurt. Brooks played two roles in the film, but there's no indication that he'll return to the villainous role of President Skroob. Deadline reports that the film has also been added to Amazon MGM's release calendar: it is now slated to hit theaters in 2027.
So far, details about the sequel are being kept under wraps, including its title, although the original film did tease Spaceballs 2: The Search For More Money. Gad will pen the film and is also expected to star in it, while Josh Greenbaum (Barb and Star Go To Vista Del Mar) will direct. Mel Brooks is set to reprise his role as ‘Yogurt’ in a new “Spaceballs” film, Amazon MGM Studios announced on Thursday.
The sequel to the 1987 MGM cult classic will be released in theaters in 2027.

Released in 1987, “Spaceballs” had a decent run at the box office with $38 million grossed and got mixed reviews, but in the subsequent years became one of Mel Brooks’ biggest cult hits for its parodic take on “Star Wars,” with Rick Moranis enjoying a standout role as Dark Helmet, his sendup of Darth Vader.

Hollywood legend Mel Brooks — who will turn 99 later this month — is officially a go to appear in an untitled Space Balls sequel that will be released in theaters in 2027 by Amazon MGM Studios, the company announced Thursday.
Brooks will reprise the role of Yogurt in the follow-up to his 1987 cult-classic comedy spoofing Star Wars and other films of the era (think of his character as a tongue-and-check Yoda). Brooks directed and co-wrote the original film, along with playing dual roles (the other was the inept President Skroob).
This time out, Josh Greenbaum is helming the comedy from a script by Benji Samit, Dan Hernandez and Josh Gad, who is also rumored to star. Amazon isn’t commenting on further casting at this time.

As Figment fans will know, it all starts with One Little Spark, and Disney CEO Bob Iger has certainly ignited imaginations with his recent comments about the beloved Epcot character. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Disney's annual shareholder meeting raised questions about Figment's future, as Iger was quizzed on the subject during Thursday's session. One shareholder reportedly asked if there were any plans to use the madcap mascot in other forms of media outside the theme park, to which Iger suggested that Figment could appear in a future series or short-form content.
"This is my 24th year. 18th as CEO, and I think the question about Figment has been asked about 15 times. We know that he's popular with shareholders, the fact that they ask questions about him all the time. But we also know that he's popular at Epcot where you can meet him and journey into imagination. During Thursday’s Disney shareholder meeting, Iger was asked by a shareholder if he would consider using the character, who represents the broader theme of imagination, in other parts of the business.
“This is my 24th year. 18th as CEO, and I think the question about Figment has been asked about 15 times,” Iger said.
“We know that he’s popular with shareholders, the fact that they ask questions about him all the time. But we also know that he’s popular at Epcot where you can meet him and journey into imagination.

There's been talk of a potential Spaceballs sequel for many years, and we recently got confirmation that a follow-up to Mel Brooks' '80s Star Wars spoof is officially in the works.
The movie is in development at Amazon MGM Studios, with Josh Gad set to star and produce alongside Brooks. Josh Greenbaum will direct the film from a screenplay by Benji Samit, Dan Hernandez, and Gad.
Gad aside, no cast members have been announced, but we're now hearing that the studio has reached out to a major up-and-coming star for an undisclosed role in the movie.
In THR's profile of Wicked star Ariana Grande, the trade mentions that the recent Academy Award-nominee has been offered a number of roles which she has yet to commit to, including a part in Spaceballs 2.
"A disaster wedding comedy, a female detective romp set in a Housewives-style reality show, and a Spaceballs sequel.

Grande played Glinda in Jon M. Chu's adaptation of the 2003 musical Wicked, and, for her role, she received an Academy Award nomination as Best Supporting Actress. She is set to reprise her role in the upcoming second part, Wicked: For Good, but her talents are not overlooked in the film industry. A new generation is attempting to recapture the spirit of comedy’s past. Back in 2023, Ike Barinholtz brought History of the World Part II to Hulu, along with the first film’s maestro, Mel Brooks. There will be an upcoming Naked Gun reboot from Akiva Schaffer, who is known for the comedy musical group The Lonely Island. Now, Josh Gad is taking on the task of bringing Spaceballs 2 to reality. The Frozen star has said that the script has garnered a lot of positive feedback as he stated, “Everybody who’s read it has been blown away. The process of working on this with and alongside Mel Brooks has been one of the highlights of my career.”

Frozen star Josh Gad is currently working on the long-awaited sequel to the beloved Mel Brooks comedy, Spaceballs, and has now said exactly what fans wanted to hear about the project. During a recent appearance on Sirius Xm’s The Spotlight with Jessica Shaw, Gad revealed that, not only is Spaceballs 2 a direct sequel to the 1987 original, it will take major inspiration from Mel Brooks’ entire back catalog and will be “worth the near-40 year wait. Discussing the follow-up, Gad revealed some insight into where he’s at with the project, with the studio now “getting the budget together” and “going out to cast” for Spaceballs 2.
"That's the first time I've ever said that. I hope I don't get in trouble for it. Please forgive me, Amazon. We are very much in the weeds, hoping to shoot by the end of the year. This is very much a sequel.

Josh Gad reveals how he told Mel Brooks about 38 years of Star Wars lore while pitching a Spaceballs sequel. Brooks directed, produced, co-wrote, and played multiple roles in Spaceballs, which primarily parodied the Star Wars original trilogy films, along with elements of Star Trek, Alien, and other popular science-fiction properties in the 1980s. Decades later, Spaceballs 2 is confirmed, with Brooks back to produce, while Frozen star Josh Gad is co-writing and starring in the project. Josh Greenbaum will direct the film while Gad is co-writing the script with Benji Samit and Dan Hernandez.
On the Let's Talk Off Camera podcast with Kelly Ripa (via Variety), Gad shared that while pitching Spaceballs 2 to Brooks, the comedic legend asked Gad to tell him about what happened in the newer Star Wars movies. Gad proceeded to spend approximately 40 minutes filling Brooks in on Star Wars lore from the past 38 years. Brooks...

When Mel Brooks made Spaceballs, he didn’t need a Star Wars refresher course; it had only been a few years between Brooks' 1987 film and the end of the original Star Wars trilogy in 1983. However, when Josh Gad recently pitched a sequel to the comedy classic, nearly 40 years had passed along with countless films, shows, games, and books in the Star Wars franchise. Brooks was the first to admit that he hadn't exactly kept up with the galaxy far, far away. So when Gad pitched Spaceballs 2, he had to do so while also bringing the famed filmmaker and comedian up to speed, which seems like a Herculean task.
Gad revealed on the Let’s Talk Off Camera podcast that getting Brooks' approval for the project (and having him sign on as a producer) required the Frozen star to engage in a frenetic, one-man, 40-minute pitch. Gad elaborated to host...
