Nassim Abassi is an international film director and the Managing Director for Moondust Production, a film production company based in Morocco that provides film services for film shoots in Morocco.
Since his return to Morocco in end of 2005, Nassim has produced several successful film projects. For instance, his feature film "Majid" had its world premiere at the Dubai International Film Festival and enjoyed both public and critical acclaim in Morocco. It took part in more than 30 world film festivals and won over 10 international prizes. Amongst them, "Majid" won "Best Screenplay Award" at the National Moroccan Film festival, won "Best Feature Film Award" at the International Film Festival for Children & Youth in Tunisia and won a "Special Mention" by the jury of the Cinekid international film festival in Amsterdam."
Earlier he shot "Bela Houdoud" (Without Limits) which he wrote and directed. This Moroccan thriller was the most watched film in the country when it was broadcast on national television It's still being watched today on YouTube and has accumulated more than 7 Million views since it was released online in 2017.
"My Uncle", his fourth feature film as a screenwriter and Film director was released in 2017 in cinemas in Morocco after its World Premiere at the Marrakech International Film Festival. The film starred Moroccan comedy legend, Abderraouf, it was the first time he played a main part in cinema after a long career in theater and television and thanks to this film he won a lifetime achievement Award at that film festival. "My Uncle" took part in several film festivals too, and was shown several times on Moroccan TV and other TV channels in the Arab world. It is also one of the rare Moroccan films to be dubbed in Chinese and shown on Chinese Film channel.
Nassim Abassi lived for 16 years in the UK where he studied a Bachelor of Arts (Honors) in Film & Video. He worked there for a few years in a post-production company and shot several short films in London. He also shot in London his first feature film "The Winter Sun is a Lie" that he wrote and directed. This low-budget English film won the Award for Best Feature Film at the International Digital Film Festival in New Delhi (2005). He decided to go back later that year to his home country, Morocco, for family reasons.
