In a bid to address the underrepresentation of women in film and television, a new production company run by three women filmmakers in Mexico has launched. Dubbed Anónima Media, it’s founded by entrepreneur-journalist-producer Bárbara Arredondo Ayala, actor-producer Eréndira Ibarra and scriptwriter-producer Natasha Ybarra-Klor with the mission to create content for and by women of Latin America and Spain.

“We want to create spaces where women can freely tell their own stories from their diverse realities and thus strengthen the new wave of talent from Ibero-American women,” said Arredondo Ayala, co-founder of Decididas, an online platform that seeks to raise awareness on the work of women role models.

In an updated press kit from Warner Bros., Ricci’s name was quietly added to the star-studded cast list. Actor and stuntman Daniel Bernhardt will reprise his role as Agent Johnson in the fourth installment of the Matrix franchise, which recently resumed production after a five-month hiatus due the pandemic.

Bernhardt was in 2003’s The Matrix Reloaded and has also appeared in the John Wick movies as an actor and a stunt performer.

The Matrix 4 has Lana Wachowski at the helm with returning franchise stars Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss, and Jada Pinkett Smith. Newcomers include Priyanka Chopra, Jessica Henwick, Ibarra, Neil Patrick Harris, Toby Onwumere, Brian J. Smith, Eréndira Ibarra, Andrew Caldwell, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, and Ellen Hollman.

Cameras have rolled again on The Matrix 4 after a five-month hiatus due the pandemic.

Deadline first revealed back in March that production on the Warner Bros / Village Roadshow pic was pausing in German city Berlin due to the disruption. Filming is now back underway, with star Keanu Reeves making an appearance in a video interview with AP to update on its prospects.

“Everyone loves the project and if you’re ever going to get in a situation that needs to be figured out…show business people are the best,” said Reeves. “We’re scrappy, we know how to get stuff done, we’re inventive, we think on our feet. It’s a great honor and I’m grateful to be working.”

Regarding the Covid-19 safety measures the studio is taking, the actor said the protocols have been effective and not disruptive to date. “There’s thoughtful, effective protocols in place.

Warner Bros./Village Roadshow’s The Matrix 4 is looking to return to production in Berlin, Germany in early July.

This as news has hit tonight that the cast has signed eight-week extensions to keep the actors on hold until July 6, Deadline has confirmed.

Production began back in February on the Lana Wachowski-directed fourthquel which brings back Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss. The movie was filming in Berlin before production stopped out of safety due to the Covid-19 pandemic, a story that Deadline broke.

Among those countries returning to feature film production in the near future, Deadline exclusively reported that you can count on New Zealand and Poland. We also hear that Australia and Germany will come back soon as well.

Lana Wachowski isn’t relying on second units when it comes to filming the action sequences in “The Matrix 4.” It’s become increasingly common for major Hollywood productions to use second units to assist with the filming of large scale action scenes. According to “John Wick” directors and former “Matrix” stunt workers Chad Stahelski and David Leitch, Lana Wachowski is handling all “Matrix 4” action scenes herself through her principal camera unit.

“What makes [Lana] so great is she directs her own action,” Stahelski told Collider. “We’ve had second unit directors on some of the [‘Matrix’ films] just because of the logistics involved. But of late, and especially on ‘Matrix 4,’ she’s directing her own action. The second units for them are mostly establishing shots, the B-sides of the some of the compositions for some locations. The Matrix 4 has temporarily shut down production due to the coronavirus pandemic that’s put much of the movie industry on hold in the past few weeks. The movie, a surprise sequel to the trilogy of cyberpunk action movies starring Keanu Reeves, was shooting in Berlin when Warner Bros. decided to postpone production.

According to Deadline, no one in the cast or crew has tested positive for the infection, so this is just a precautionary measure by the studio, which has also closed down production for The Batman, Fantastic Beasts 3, King Richard, and Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis Presley movie. WB projects were shooting in the UK, Australia, and Los Angeles.

The Lana Wachowski-directed movie has already filmed in the San Francisco Bay Area and Mexico City, with videos of death-defying stunts and Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss riding down busy city streets on a motorcycle making the rounds on social media.

As you’ll see below, two set videos from The Matrix 4 have found their way onto the interwebs (watch them while you can!), featuring police vehicles, helicopters and a whole lot of explosions. It’s impossible to glean any story details from this footage alone, but we have a sneaking suspicion that this has been lifted from the sequel’s finale, given the sheer scope of the production. A “Matrix” film would be nothing without the involvement of Neo and Trinity in some capacity. The same could be said for Agent Smith, the original trilogy’s villain, famously played by Hugo Weaving. Agent Smith is one of the most pivotal characters in “The Matrix” franchise, so it seemed reasonable for fans to expect the character to pop up in the upcoming fourth movie. Santiago De Compostela, Spain — Gael García Bernal’s political thriller “Aquí en la tierra” (“Here on Earth”), a searing indictment of Mexico’s ruling elite, has been re-upped for a second season by Fox Networks Group Latin America.

Last year it was announced that the The Wachowskis (The Matrix, Speed Racer, Cloud Atlas) and J. Michael Straczynski (Babylon 5, Thor, Underworld Awakening) would be teaming up with Netflix to develop a new series called Sense8. Up to this point all that we've know about the show is that it was developed from a conversation about "the ways technology simultaneously unites and divides us." It's also been described as "a gripping tale of minds linked and souls hunted.”

Thanks to Deadline, we now have a lot more information on the ten episode series, including the large cast and details on the plot.

Back in February in the Morning Brew, Trish told you about the new Mexican television show Las Aparicio, which kicked off last night on Cadena 3 (Channel 28 on Open Television in Mexico and Channel 128 on Cabelvision and other cable services) in Mexico.

The show grabbed our attention (and that of some Ae readers) in large part because of the inclusion of a lesbian character, Mariana Torres, played by actress Eréndira Ibarra. The inside scoop we were given indicated that Mariana would have a "major romance" and there would be some "very hot, hot scenes."

Naturally, we had to ask the woman who plays Mariana to tell us everything. She spoke to us recently (via email) about the show, her role, and how she hopes to make a difference with her positive portrayal of an out lesbian.
