Cristina Mejia(I)

Cristina Mejia (AKA Cris Mejia) is a film and theatre actress born in Medellin, Colombia on August 14, 1976. She is the second child of Gonzalo Mejia, a doctor and Maria Victoria a former nurse and Director of an NGO for children's rights. When Cristina was 4 years old, her father went to do a Fellowship in Medicine in the US, she spent many years of her childhood there and has therefore been fully bilingual her whole life. Cristina returned to Colombia and after graduating from school, she pursued her Bachelor in Education degree at the Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana in her home city. Cristina then moved to Southern France and studied History for two years. In France she participated in Community Theatre and studied African Dance. At 22, Cristina moved back to Colombia, started working as a school teacher at the Columbus School in Medellin and obtained her Master in Science in Education from SUNY College, Buffalo. She started going to Drama Workshops and Dance classes (Modern Dance, Tap Dance, Ballet and Jazz) participating in many dance performances. In 2005 she was discovered during her first audition by Jairo Pinilla Tellez and got selected for her first film "Por qué lloran las campanas?". After filming, she decided to pursue her acting career and moved to the Colombian capital, Bogotá. Cristina worked at Colegio Nueva Granada as a Drama teacher while she attended Drama school and acted in many commercials, plays, short films and a few feature films, mostly. She also trained as a Voice Over Artist with Centauro Producciones. In 2012, Cristina was admitted to Goldsmiths, University of London and obtained her Masters of Arts in Theatre with a double scholarship. In London besides graduating with Merit, she performed in several plays and indie films. In 2014, Cristina moved to Dubai to work as a Drama and Dance teacher and is an active member of the Dubai Drama scene. She has performed in over 17 plays, she has been nominated best actress several times and her plays have won best plays in several competitions. Cristina's initial training and interest is Film, she now started being involved in the Local Film Industry, having participated in several short films.
