Get ready for another go-around with the Guy Ritchie series, The Gentlemen. Variety has reported that the Netflix series has been renewed for season 2. In his review for season one, our own Alex Maidy said, “The Gentlemen series feels like a reimagining of the film. The story hits some vaguely similar notes but the vast majority is completely different. […] This is a unique reimagining of a successful story that takes it in a different direction and sets up future seasons.”
Netflix U.K.’s VP spoke ecstatically about the show’s successful first season, “With its gun-toting chickens and drug-dealing Dukes, The Gentlemen was a huge hit with audiences in 2024. Not really a surprise as Guy Ritchie remains one of the industry’s most iconic creators telling authentically British stories with his signature swagger, grit and wit. Silent Night, the latest film from the legendary John Woo, reached theatres on December 1st (you can read our review at This Link) – and while Woo was doing the press rounds for his new movie, The Hollywood Reporter took the opportunity to ask him about a couple revivals of his older works: the remake of his 1989 film The Killer, which Woo is directing himself, and the sequel to his 1997 film Face/Off, which is set to be directed by Godzilla vs. Kong‘s Adam Wingard.
Asked why he has decided to remake his own film with the new take on The Killer (which went into production this past summer), Woo said, “Well, the project was in the works for many years, but it was hard to find a director to direct it. So when I came back [to the States], we got support from Universal, and they asked me to do it. So I...

A lot has happened since May of last year, so you'd be forgiven for letting it slip from your mind that director John Woo's classic 1989 action film "The Killer" is due for its own straight-to-streaming remake ... and it's also being directed by, you guessed it, John Woo. The unexpected news was first covered by /Film here and, honestly, we're still not entirely sure what to make of it. But it's definitely happening and today we've received our most significant update on the project yet.
Deadline was the first to report that the "reimagining" of the original action film, which follows an assassin (played by Chow Yun-Fat) who inadvertently blinds an innocent bystander during a shootout and sets off on one last contract gig to get the money to pay for her eyesight-saving surgery, has found its two main leads. Omar Sy, who most recently appeared in "Jurassic World Dominion...

For years, director John Woo has been developing a remake of his awesome 1989 film The Killer (buy it Here). At one point, Lupita Nyong’o was signed on to play the assassin role that had been played by Chow Yun-Fat in the original film. That version of the project fell apart when Nyong’o had to step away due to scheduling issues – but Woo just dusted himself off and kept working on the remake. Last summer, it was announced that Lupin‘s Omar Sy had signed on to star in the film, and now Deadline reports that Sy is being joined in the cast by Nathalie Emmanuel of Game of Thrones and the Fast and Furious franchise.
Details on the roles Sy and Emmanuel will be playing in the remake of The Killer have not been revealed.

Bobbi Jene Smith is excellent as a dancer attempting to reconcile motherhood, performance and family in this promising indie film
The latest triumph from Film London’s Microwave scheme – the BFI and BBC Films programme that has produced such worthwhile investments as Hong Khaou’s Lilting and Eran Creevy’s Shifty – is an engrossing close study of a thirtysomething woman caught between two worlds, and two states of being.
American choreographer Bobbi Jene Smith plays Charlotte, a principal in a contemporary dance troupe whose preparations for a major show are dealt two blows in quick succession. First comes a positive pregnancy test, and the realisation the body with which she so forcefully expresses herself will undergo radical change. Second, there’s a call from her family, gathering round the hospital bed of her dying grandmother. Universal Pictures is developing a remake of Chinese action film “The Killer,” with John Woo returning to direct and Lupita Nyong’o attached to star.
The original 1989 movie, starring Chow Yun-Fat, Danny Lee, and Sally Yeh, was widely acclaimed and led to Woo being hired by Hollywood studios. Chow played an assassin who accidentally damages the eyes of a singer (portrayed by Sally Yeh). The two fall in love, and he decides to perform one last hit in order to pay for a corneal transplant to prevent her from going blind.
Nyong’o will portray the assassin in what the studio is calling a reimagination of the original movie. She recently starred in “Black Panther” and “Star Wars: The Last Jedi,” and won an Oscar for best supporting actress for “12 Years a Slave.”
Entertainment One’s Mark Gordon and Matt Jackson will produce alongside Woo. Luc Etienne will executive produce.

Update: John Woo’s next film will be a remake of his own actioner The Killer, this time led by none other than Lupita Nyong’o in the assassin role originated by Chow Yun-fat, Deadline reports. Scripted by Eran Creevy, the Universal Pictures production will begin later this year in France and Germany. See the original story below.
While the summer will no doubt be met with disappointments in the action genre, the season will kick off with a new film from a master in the field, John Woo. Although it won’t be available on the big screen, his new thriller Manhunt will arrive worldwide on Netflix at the end of this week, and the company is finally now starting to promote it with the first trailer. Sir Ben Kingsley has never been shy about hamming it up in low-rent garbage (check out 2015’s “Self / Less” to watch him dye his skin orange and play a bald-headed version of Trump), but his latest performance takes things to another level entirely. The kind of low-rent action movie that only exists because everybody involved knew that nobody in the Western world would ever see it, Eran Creevy’s “Collide” stars Nicholas Hoult as a reformed car thief and Felicity Jones as the dying girlfriend whose kidney failure inspires him to do one last job.
But they’re both really boring. You know who’s not boring? Geran, the Turkish drug kingpin who lives in a gold-plated trailer with four prostitutes, suffers from short-term memory loss, and likes to spend his free time watching the 1985 John Travolta classic, “Perfect” (that’s the one where Travolta goes undercover in a Los Angeles fitness club). Watching Collide – the action thriller that debuted on roughly 2,000 screens this weekend – will, more likely than not, leave audiences wondering how indeed the film made it to the big screen. Its warmed-over love story, the one-last-job premise that fuels the plot and the parade of cliches it happily checks out of its cinematic bucket list don’t exactly scream “wide theatrical release.” So what then can we attribute the film’s major release to? Certainly, that answers boils down to the four acclaimed stars that frontline Eran Creevy’s third directorial effort.
Nicholas Hoult stars as Casey, a low-level criminal who gives up his life of delinquency when he falls in love with Juliette (Felicity Jones). However, in order for them to live happily ever after, Casey must resume working for drug dealer Geran (Ben Kingsley) on a task that puts both him and Juliette in the crosshairs of notorious...

Collide stars Nicholas Hoult as an American car thief and ex-drug dealer who gets involved in a cockamamie German cocaine heist in order to pay for a kidney transplant for his girlfriend (Felicity Jones) and ends up on the wrong side of a psycho trafficker (Anthony Hopkins) in a powder-blue suit. That’s more melodrama than the film needs, because Collide (titled Autobahn outside the States) has been put on this Earth for one purpose: solid, wholesome car-on-road, car-on-car action. Its English director, Eran Creevy (Welcome To The Punch), handles this with due competence—screeching tires, growling engines, grips tightening on steering wheels, and windshields shattering into glass confetti, cut from the usual surfeit of angles. The rest is unexceptional, a hodgepodge of corny voice-over and repetitive, anticlimactic plotting, with Hoult and Jones miscast as a couple of party-hardy American expats. But it isn’t unpleasant to look at.

Where would distinguished Academy Award-winning actors be in their dotage years if not for B-movies? Fortunately, there are plenty of them to go around — B-movies, I mean — guaranteeing lucrative paychecks and international location travel for the likes of Anthony Hopkins and Ben Kingsley, who compete in Collide to see which one can better chew the scenery.
Not that they’re the stars of this low-rent thriller directed by Eran Creevy. That dubious distinction belongs to British thespians Nicholas Hoult and Felicity Jones, here both playing Americans. That Jones’ star has so recently risen with Rogue One: A Star Wars...

Welcome back to the Weekend Warrior, your weekly look at the new movies hitting theaters this weekend, as well as other cool events and things to check out.
This Past Weekend:
Presidents' Day weekend was an interesting one at the box office, and as with most holiday weekends, it was particularly difficult to figure out how things might fare, other than The Lego Batman Movie, which remained at #1 with almost $45 million over the four-day weekend. Fifty Shades Darker followed with $21.3 million, about a 50% drop. Last week, I thought that the Ice Cub comedy Fist Fight would beat The Great Wall, although it seemed like it could be a close race. Nope. Matt Damon’s action epic came in third place with $21.6 million, which is a couple million more than my original prediction, but The Fist Fight fell short of my prediction by almost $10 million, grossing $14.5 million in its first four days.

Starring Nicholas Hoult, Felicity Jones, Ben Kingsley and Anthony Hopkins, Collide is a new action thriller from director Eran Creevy (Welcome to the Punch). Well, I say new, but Creevy’s film is one of handful of movies trapped in release limbo following the bankruptcy issues faced by Relativity Media.
After a heist goes terribly wrong, Casey Stein (Nicholas Hoult) finds himself on the run from a ruthless gang headed by mob boss Hagen (Anthony Hopkins). Now Casey has precious cargo that belongs to Hagen, who will stop at nothing to retrieve it. Left with no choice, Casey calls his former employer and drug smuggler Geran (Ben Kingsley) to protect his long-time girlfriend Juliette before Hagen gets his hands on her. Casey sets out on an adrenaline-fueled car chase on the German highways to save the love of his life before it’s too late.

"We've all got our reasons to crazy, reckless things in life..." Open Road Films has debuted another new trailer for the action thriller Collide, starring superstar actors Nicholas Hoult and Felicity Jones. This film was supposed to be released last August (see the first trailer here), but after generating pretty much no buzz they delayed it until this February. I'm still not interested, and this still looks as generic and bland as it did before, even with a great cast. Besides Hoult and Jones, this also stars Anthony Hopkins (as a mob boss) and Ben Kingsley (looking wacko), plus Nadia Hilker and Clemens Schick. The story is about an American backpacker caught up in a drug smuggling ring while trying to pull off a heist, taking him "on the run from his employers across Munich's high-speed Autobahn." Of course it's all about the action. Enjoy. Here's the newest trailer (+ international...

Geez, Open Road are really kicking off 2017 by getting their garbage out of the way. Last weekend they opened the Jamie Foxx vehicle “Sleepless” without screening it for press, and watched it tank hard over the holiday weekend. And next month comes the frequently delayed “Collide,” and I also won’t be surprised if it also opens without being shown to critics.
Nicholas Hoult, Felicity Jones, a zany Ben Kingsley, and Anthony Hopkins, all collect paydays for the the Eran Creevy (“Welcome To The Punch“) directed movie about a dude who has to go to some crazy lengths to protect his girlfriend from some very bad dudes.

How far would you go for the one you love? That’s a tagline that’s been tethered to umpteen drama/thriller/crime flicks over the years, where a character is thrust into such a perilous situation that it leaves their significant other with little choice but to maneuver around a series of obstacles – both literal and figurative – to ensure their safety.
Another movie to hew close those hackneyed conventions is this summer’s heist movie Collide, an action-packed romp that finds Nicholas Hoult (Mad Max: Fury Road, X-Men: Apocalypse) in the role of Casey Stein, an Average Joe who is ready to risk life and limb to save his ailing girlfriend, Juliette (Felicity Jones).
In order to afford those astronomical medical bills for a kidney transplant, Hoult’s protagonist returns to a life he thought was far behind him – smuggling precious cargo for a group of powerful mob bosses.

"Is it dangerous?" "What kind of question is that?!" Open Road Films has unveiled the first trailer for the action thriller Collide, starring Nicholas Hoult and Felicity Jones. Though shot two years ago, Eran Creevy's action thriller previously known as "Autobahn" and now titled "Collide" looks to be finally emerging with a new Asian market trailer online ahead of the film's October 30th premiere States-side.
Nicholas Hoult, Felicity Jones, Ben Kingsley and Anthony Hopkins star in the story of a young man forced to go on the run after a heist goes wrong. Using flashy vehicles to make his escape along Germany's speed limit-free autobahn, he also scores the help of his drug smuggling former employer to protect his girlfriend from the mob.

Collide is an action-thriller from director Eran Creevy about an American backpacker, played by Nicholas Hoult, who gets involved with a ring of drug smugglers as their driver. The film's title in this trailer is Autobahn, which is the international title for this, and also the setting of the final action scene where he encounters his employers on Munich's highways with no speed limit.
