Exclusive: Colin Bates (Queer) and Ella Kennedy Davis (Your Friends and Neighbors) will topline These Little Ones Perish, an indie drama from director Alex Noyer (Sound of Violence), which has wrapped production in New York.
For Noyer, the circumstances surrounding the shoot were extraordinary, as he went to set just one week after losing his home in the devastating Palisades fire that destroyed over 6,000 structures. Hailing from Genco Pictures and You Know Films, the project is an adaptation of the play by Patrick Hamilton, who penned the script.
The story begins after a young altar boy’s tragic death by suicide in a local church. Father Frye (Bates) discovers the body, only to face resistance from the church hierarchy, the local police and the surrounding community. His investigation is driven by the grief and distrust of the boy’s older sister, Siobhan (Davis), as well as the church’s apparent urgency to bury the truth.

HBO pulled all the stops with a glitzy Thailand-themed premiere event Monday night for the upcoming third season of The White Lotus, Mike White’s social satire anthology wrapped into a murder mystery. It was a throwback to the network’s signature must-attend elaborate shindigs of years past while still reflecting the recent tragic events, with Thai restaurants impacted by the fires catering the afterparty.
The White Lotus, along with the rest of HBO’s drama series output, is overseen by EVP Francesca Orsi, the longtime top HBO programming executive whom both White and Orsi’s boss, Casey Bloys, chairman and CEO of HBO and Max Content, acknowledged onstage Monday.
She spoke with Deadline at the afterparty about Season 3 as well as the already greenlighted Season 4 of The White Lotus, including where the next installment may be set and whether it would be an all-star affair. She also teased the...

The I.P.-ification of television has come for HBO, although not at the same gluttonous levels seen at other networks. New HBO original series in 2025 will include a prequel to the hit film franchise, “It” (via the ominous title “Welcome to Derry”), the latest “Game of Thrones” spinoff “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms,” and various DC superhero extensions, the latter of which is still housed under the Max originals branding.
But for how long? Last year saw a slew of high-profile programs shift brands, as “The Penguin” and “Dune: Prophecy” both launched under the HBO banner after first being developed behind the thin wall separating one of television’s most prestigious networks from its latest streaming home. “Welcome to Derry” crossed over from Max, too, as did anticipated titles being prepped for next year: namely, the untitled “Harry Potter” series and DC’s Green Lantern show, “Lanterns.” Where...

Warner Bros. Discovery announced that its upcoming “Harry Potter” series will start shooting this summer at Leavesden, where the movies were also filmed.
During a presentation at the Warner Bros. Discovery’s headquarters in London on Thursday, showrunner Francesca Gardiner and director Mark Mylod revealed that the show had auditioned 32,000 kids for the lead roles, and that the casting team is currently reviewing between 500 and 1,000 audition tapes per day with the intent to watch every single one. Though he affirmed they haven’t made any final choices in regards to casting yet, Mylod said the next step will be to “workshop with some of our shortlisted candidates” in January.
Gardiner and Mylod also said they will be sticking to correct canonical ages for the characters: Severus Snape (potentially being played by Paapa Essiedu) will be in his 30s, while James and Lily Potter will be younger, as they were only 21 when they died.

The much-anticipated Season 3 of the mysterious and satirical travel anthology series jets off to Thailand this year, and after a few teases that it would be returning early in 2025, we now finally have a release date to mark on the calendar.
Perrette spoke at the Wells Fargo Tmt Summit on Tuesday, December 3 and revealed the news, and he added that “Euphoria,” which is due to begin production in January, is not likely to return until 2026. Liam Neeson's underrated 2015 mob movie Run All Night is now streaming on Netflix. Neeson, who turned 72 in 2024, has kept up his momentum as one of the best leading actors in action movies working in Hollywood today with 2024's Absolution. Many of Neeson's best action films are essentially one-person army tales that portray the talented actor's physical tour-de-force performances. Run All Night certainly falls into this iconic category of Neeson action thrillers.
Run All Night is one of several collaborations between Neeson and director Jaume Collet-Serra, which also includes 2011's Unknown, 2014's Non-Stop, 2018's The Commuter, and 2023's Retribution. Neeson is currently slated to star in the 2025 remake of The Naked Gun and the Jonny Campbell-directed thriller Cold Storage alongside Lesley Manville and Joe Keery. A sequel to Run All Night is currently in development with Neeson set to return with Joel Kinnamon's Mike Conlon character.

Not all hope is lost for “Mare of Easttown” fans hoping for a second season, with creator Brad Ingelsby saying he’s “always open” to revisit the series under the right circumstances.
Ingelsby revealed Tuesdday he would “welcome the chance” to pick back up “Mare of Easttown” for another installment, but only if he and the team could craft a story that’s “as compelling as the first one.”
“It would be hard to jump back in with ‘Mare’ and compete with losing a son — that was always a thing that I struggled with with ‘Mare,’ was, how do you compete with that?'” Ingelsby said during HBO’s 2025 programming slate presentation in Los Angeles. “If there’s a way to come back to ‘Mare’ where she has something else to deal with that we feel equally compelling emotionally, and would be able to bring the viewer back in, I...

Mare of Easttown creator Brad Ingelsby explains why season 2 would be a challenge despite his willingness to revisit Kate Winslet's hit HBO show. Aired in 2021, the crime drama follows Winslet as the titular detective, Mare Sheehan, who investigates a murder in a small town outside Philadelphia. Other than Winslet in the lead role, the Mare of Easttown cast includes Julianne Nicholson, Jean Smart, Angourie Rice, Evan Peters, Sosie Bacon, David Denman, James McArdle, Guy Pearce, and Cailee Spaeny.
During an HBO press conference in Los Angeles (via Deadline), Ingelsby explained why Mare of Easttown season 2 would be a challenge. The creator is willing to revisit the show, but only if they can craft a story as emotionally compelling as the first season, though he wants to "give Mare some space" to avoid rushing into another intense storyline. HBO and its increasingly aligned streaming sibling, Max, is wrapping a good-bad year. The revived True Detective was a hit by nearly all metrics, House of the Dragon returned to robust ratings and, most recently, Chimp Crazy became the streaming platform’s most-watched doc series. Smaller critical darlings popped up throughout. But because output was diminished by the 2023 strikes, knee-capping its Emmy haul in the process, the narrative wasn’t always that positive.

A fourth season of “The White Lotus” could already be in the works. HBO and Max boss Casey Bloys told reporters Tuesday that he visited creator Mike White on the show’s Season 3 Thailand set earlier this year, and that White already has ideas percolating for Season 4.
“Mike, obviously — if he wants to move forward and do the four seasons — he will do the fourth season,” Bloys told reporters. He was mum on any details, of course. The next “White Lotus” is set to premiere in early 2025 with returning cast member Natasha Rothwell, as well as new stars Carrie Coon, Jason Isaacs, Michelle Monaghan and Parker Posey, among others. White created the series and serves as executive producer and director, and it won the limited series Emmy in 2022 (before moving to the drama category).

After creating Marvel Studios’ most successful series in WandaVision, Agatha All Along showrunner Jac Schaeffer rewarded herself with the director’s chair. In addition to being Disney+’s most watched new series of 2021, Schaeffer’s show garnered 23 Emmy nominations, three wins and, for good measure, a chart-topping single called “Agatha All Along.” So, when the time came to do a spinoff with Kathryn Hahn’s Agatha Harkness in the title role, Schaeffer knew she wanted to reignite her directorial ambitions, which were last on display in 2009’s Timer. It took 30 years after the Emmy Awards’ Outstanding Director for a Drama Series category was launched for the first woman, Karen Arthur, to be nominated in 1985. And it took almost 40 more years for the first Black woman, Salli Richardson-Whitfield, to land a nomination in the field, something she accomplished last week. She did it for her work on HBO’s Winning Time, which she also executive produced.
This marks the first Emmy nomination for the veteran actress-turned-director, who last week also earned her second, sharing the Outstanding Drama Series nom for HBO’s The Gilded Age in her role as executive producer.
In an interview with Deadline, Richardson-Whitfield spoke about the key role Ava DuVernay played (twice) in her taking on a new career as a director in her 40s, the challenges she has faced as a woman in a male-dominated drama-directing field, and her relationship with HBO where she...

The The Way Back cast goes beyond lead actor Ben Affleck. The movie stars dramatic actors and comedy actors alike, including Al Madrigal and Janina Gavankar. The Way Back also boasts a robust ensemble cast featuring memorable performers from Percy Jackson and The Thing.
The Way Back cast extends far beyond its lead star Ben Affleck. The 2020 basketball drama was directed by Gavin O'Connor (reuniting with Affleck after helming his action-thriller The Accountant) from a screenplay by Brad Ingelsby, who is the son of a basketball coach. The movie, which cost roughly $25 million, suffered financially in its theatrical release, only earning $15.5 million because it was released shortly before the Covid-19 pandemic shut down theaters worldwide. However, it was well received by both critics and audiences, earning 84% scores from both groups on Rotten Tomatoes.
The Way Back was one of a crop of titles that were released on premium VOD just weeks after their initial release.

True crime is getting more and more entertaining by the day and I don’t if that’s a good thing or a bad one. We have another brilliant true crime drama series, Under the Bridge, created by Quinn Shephard. Based on a 2005 book of the same name by Rebecca Godfrey, the Hulu series is set in 1997 and it follows the murder case of a 14-year-old girl which we see through the eyes of local police officer Cam Bentland and the author Godfrey. Under the Bridge stars Lily Gladstone and Riley Keough in the lead roles with Virtika Gupta, Chloe Guidry, Javon “Wanna” Walton, and Izzy G starring in supporting roles. So, if you love the thrilling and dreadful story of Under the Bridge, here are some other shows that have similar tone and story elements that you should check out next.

The rising star on transitioning from man to beast for Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes.
When Owen Teague was four years old, he saw Disney’s Beauty And The Beast and wanted to be in it. Not do a voice in it — actually be in it. “My mum was like, ‘Um, okay, sure, but that’s an animation. There are community theatres you can audition for?’” So he started doing community theatre, mostly musicals. Then, in 2005, Peter Jackson’s King Kong arrived. Seven-year-old Owen was bewitched. When his mum explained that King Kong was played by an actual guy in a performance- capture suit, Teague saw his future.
Almost 20 years later, he is that guy. In Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes, Teague plays the lead, Noa, a young chimpanzee born nearly 300 years after the events of the last film in the franchise. After a successful audition...

Mare of Easttown's critical acclaim may not lead to a second season, as HBO is being cautious after a previous crime drama's mixed reception. The miniseries' great ending doesn't necessarily require a second season, as it effectively wraps up Mare's story with enough closure for viewers. HBO's success with miniseries like Mare of Easttown suggests they shouldn't press for future seasons if the quality may not match the first.
Mare of Easttown's critical acclaim naturally paves the way for a second season, but after the mixed reception of another one of HBO's crime dramas, it might make sense for the network to take a more cautious approach to a second season. If you're making a list of the greatest film acting debuts of all time, Kate Winslet's unnervingly ecstatic portrayal of Juliet Hulme in Peter Jackson's "Heavenly Creatures" better be at or near the top of the list -- and you should absolutely tether it to co-star Melanie Lynskey's startling debut as Pauline Parker in the same fantastic movie. You can't set the bar any higher than this, and all the two actors have done over the last 30 years is meet or surpass our expectations.
While Lynskey ultimately found her groove as a versatile and rousingly effective character actor, Winslet's career skyrocketed to superstardom in 1997 when she landed the role of Rose in James Cameron's disaster epic "Titanic." Her red-hot romance with Leonardo Di Caprio's dashing Jack granted her cinematic immortality, at which point she was faced with the daunting challenge of living up to mainstream moviegoers' expectations.

True Detective has to be one of the most brilliant anthology mystery thriller shows ever made. Originally created by Nic Pizzolatto, the HBO series told a dark and haunting tale through the brilliant performances by Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson in its first season. The quality of the series took a nosedive in its second season and the third season while better from Season 2 didn’t really match the expectation that the inaugural season of True Detective set. Now, we are in Season 4 titled Night Country and with a new creative force behind the series, the fans are getting exactly what they want. Mark Ruffalo is calling for an Israel-Hamas ceasefire. At the DGA awards in Beverly Hills on Saturday night he told Deadline the pins on his lapel represented “peace lillies and Artists for Ceasefire”.
Ruffalo said that Artists for Ceasefire is “calling for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza. There are 1,200 Israelis dead and 27,000 Palestinians,” he continued.
“We’ve come to understand this bombing isn’t working, we’re not going to bomb our way to peace, and all we’re saying is, what’s wrong with giving a ceasefire a chance? We have a million refugees on the border of Rafah right now, who are looking at another bombing surge, and we have 400,000 people starving to death right now, without any humanitarian aid being able to get in there. So we’re asking the leaders of the world, especially President Biden, to demand a ceasefire, a lasting ceasefire, and give...

Country star Zach Bryan recruited Western film legend Matthew McConaughey for his “Nine Ball” music video, released on Monday.
The video, directed by Matthew Dillon Cohen, tells the story of a boy whose father is a gambling addict. McConaughey plays a pool shark who brings his young son to the bar while he bets cash against his opponent, played by Scott Shepherd.
In an alternate timeline, Tye Sheridan plays an older version of McConaughey’s son, who grows up to play billiards in the same pool hall as his father. The narratives jump back and forth from each other, depicting the effect of the father’s gambling on the son, and ends with a flashback shot of McConaughey carrying the young boy out of the bar after a bar fight.
“Nine Ball” comes from Bryan’s EP Boys of Faith, which he released in September 2023. At the Grammy Awards last Sunday,...

Mark Ruffalo's upcoming show, Task, will be set in the same universe as Mare of Easttown. Task will feature Ruffalo as a complex FBI agent leading a kidnapping and murder investigation, similar to Kate Winslet's role in Mare of Easttown. The connection between Task and Mare of Easttown should be emphasized and capitalized on, potentially through character crossovers or references to the original show.
Mare of Easttown ended in May 2021, but its legacy will reportedly live on in Mark Ruffalo's upcoming television series, Task, which must take advantage of its connection to the critically acclaimed show starring Kate Winslet. The 2021 crime drama limited series was created and written by Brad Ingelsby for HBO, and Ingelsby is also the mind behind Ruffalo's new show alongside Jeremiah Zagar. Following the success of Mare of Easttown, Ingelsby secured a three-year deal with HBO to create new projects for the premium cable network,...
