The son of a piano teacher mom, and "the first man in Brooklyn with a
hi-fi" dad, Kerry learned to appreciate music and the arts early in
life. Ultimately, it led him to study music and theater arts at SUNY at
Stony Brook (SUSB) where he graduated cum laude.
Following college, he spent a year working as a program coordinator at the Stony Brook Student Union where he booked performing artists, oversaw workshops and supervised the video club. However, not content with simply scheduling others, he left to become a founding member of Long Island's Pastel Mime Company, a troupe formed by former students of the SUSB Theater Department. They traveled much of the eastern United States performing and conducting master classes at colleges, public schools, cultural centers and summer camps.
After several years, he followed the admonition to "Go west, young man!" and moved to California where he was involved in designing, building and operating audio and video systems. Having helped his dad assemble their hi-fis and stereos in his youth, Kerry was very comfortable with a soldering iron and he knew his "gozintas and gozoutas".
It was there that he was hired to help wire up a new video facility and he got his first taste of professional video production which he learned "on the job".
