Project Hail Mary is an alien sci-fi movie about an astronaut (Gosling) who is tasked with saving Earth while he is alone in outer space. Marvel Television almost gave general audiences greater exposure to this character in 2018 with a New Warriors series, which would have starred Milana Vayntrub as Squirrel Girl. Unfortunately, despite a seemingly exciting pilot episode, the series failed to get picked up for a full season order.

Exclusive: Milana Vayntrub has boarded the Amazon MGM Studios’ upcoming movie Project Hail Mary, joining previously announced cast members Ryan Gosling and Sandra Hüller.

Phil Lord and Christopher Miller are directing the film from a script by Drew Goddard. Producers include Amy Pascal via Pascal Pictures; Gosling via General Admission; Lord, Miller and Aditya Sood via Lord Miller; Rachel O’Connor via Pascal Pictures; and Andy Weir.

In Project Hail Mary, which is based on The Martian author Weir’s novel of the same name, middle school science teacher Ryland Grace (Gosling) wakes up on a spaceship with no memory of who he is or how he got there. Unlike their golden run on the big screen till phase 3, Marvel didn’t quite replicate its huge success on the small screen, with most of the Disney Plus MCU shows earning less-than-stellar reception. While fans have complained about MCU’s recent catalog being bloated following the abundance of TV shows, Marvel has also abandoned an overwhelming number of TV shows over the years.

Poster artist Clara McAvoy claimed she was being paid to do a promo poster for it, assuring fans an official announcement might be heading our way in early 2017 or late 2016. Unfortunately, it never happened, leading many to speculate Marvel might have put the kibosh on it.

Milana Vayntrub, the actress behind the popular AT&T commercial character Lily, has opened up about facing online sexual harassment and how she received support from fellow commercial star Stephanie Courtney, aka Flo from Progressive. In a new profile from the New York Times, Vayntrub recalled how she first auditioned for the character of Lily, an upbeat AT&T employee, when she was 26 years old and “dressed like I imagined a friendly girl would dress.” She became the face of the telecommunications company between 2013 and 2016 before taking a hiatus. However, she revived the character in 2020 during the pandemic, which she revealed was her own idea. “This time, Lily would be working from home. AT&T greenlit the proposal. Vayntrub directed the spots herself. She filmed the national ads in her own house, recreating Lily’s hair and makeup herself under the remote supervision of a professional,” the Times profile states. But in a New York Times story today, she revealed she received encouragement and support from an unlikely peer – Stephanie Courtney, who plays the character “Flo” in ads for Progressive Insurance.

Courtney contacted Vayntrub by phone when the online abuse was at its worse. Courtney was empathetic, and Vayntrub recalled that Courtney was a good listener. Talking to her peer made Vayntrub feel “like there were people on my team,” she said in the Times story.

In August of 2020, Vayntrub posted an Instagram livestream asking that the online harassment against her stop.

The Motion Picture & Television Fund’s second annual Lights, Camera, Take Action! Caring for Hollywood’s Crews telethon exceeded its fundraising goal by raising $786,512 on Saturday night, the nonprofit said.

The telethon, co-hosted and co-produced by Yvette Nicole Brown and Tom Bergeron, aired live on Ktla in Los Angeles, aiming to raise relief funds for entertainment industry members impacted by the dual WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes this year.

It had set a goal of raising $750,000 this year after raising $865,000 a year ago.

Performances during the two-hour telecast included from Annette O’Toole and Michael McKean, Chris Mann, Darren Criss, Harry Northup, Lalah Hathaway, Leslie Odom Jr, Musyca Children’s Choir, Tausha with The Boxmasters, and Wendy Liebman. “The Drew Barrymore Show” returned from its summer hiatus Monday and all hell broke loose.

The WGA picketed Barrymore’s daytime talk show, which employed three WGA members prior to the strike. The program joins the ranks of ABC’s “The View,” which also returned. “The Talk,” “The Jennifer Hudson Show,” and “The Kelly Clarkson Show” have all announced their intention to return before the strike ends; they can expect the same treatment.

All daytime talk shows are not created equally as far as the WGA is concerned. “Tamron Hall,” “Live with Kelly and Mark,” and “Sherri” don’t employ WGA writers and should have cleaner comebacks. Of course, they still can’t have actor or writer guests promoting their films or TV shows. (SAG-AFTRA has been on strike since July 14; the WGA strike started May 2.)

Director Marie Alice Wolfszahn’s Mother Superior has taken best feature in the main competition at the Brooklyn Horror Film Festival with the abortion-focused anthology Give Me An A garnering the Gold Audience Award during the seventh edition of the festival.

Other main competition jury prize winners at Bhff, which ran from Oct. 13-20 with events held in Williamsburg and Prospect Park, included Wolfszahn for best director, Megalomaniac’s Eline Schumacher for best performance and a special jury mention for the Paolo Strippoli-directed Flowing.

In Comedy Central’s upcoming movie “Out of Office,” Ken Jeong and Leslie Jones star as a dysfunctional couple whose marriage increasingly unravels during work-from-home. Marvel is officially launching a scripted "Squirrel Girl" podcast, with Milana Vayntrub assuming the titular role. Shaun of the Dead famously launched with the tagline “Zom, Rom, Com”, as in “zombies”, “romance” and “comedy”. It is fair to say, that is a tough combination to get right, and Shaun of the Dead naturally nailed it.

Werewolves Within takes these themes, adding a dash of small-town Americana charm and running with them. There is a healthy chunk of “Slither” (criminally overlooked) and a little bit of The Thing style paranoia, as a scientist gets drunk as a natural reaction to what her “science stuff” has told her about the recent, grizzly deaths. Our film kicks off, with our instantly lovable Finn (Sam Richardson) heading to a small town, “Beaverfield”, shortly before a blizzard hits, to start his new job as the park ranger.
