Abitur in Halle. Studied Applied and Theoretical Linguistics in Leipzig and Warsaw, graduating in 1982 as a certified language mediator for Polish and Russian.
Until 1985 interpreter in the tourism and cultural sector, then EDP employee at the Halle television set factory. 1987 to 1990 worked in the culture/education department of the district executive committee of the LDPD/FDP; 1995 to 1996 managing director at the Humanistischer Verband e. V. Berlin, since mid-1996 freelance translator.
Founding member, first chairwoman and board member of the Erhard-Hübener-Stiftung e. V. in Saxony-Anhalt.
Since 1990 member of the state executive committee of the FDP Saxony-Anhalt, since 1995 state chairwoman and deputy district chairwoman in Halle, since 1993 member of the federal executive committee of the FDP, 1997 to May 2001 deputy federal chairwoman, 2001 to 2005 secretary general of the FDP, since 2005 again deputy federal chairwoman of the FDP. Deputy federal chairwoman of Liberale Frauen e.
