In the waning days of the 2024 presidential campaign, Donald Trump has sued CBS over the way that 60 Minutes edited an interview with Kamala Harris.
The lawsuit, filed in U.S. District Court in Amarillo, TX, seeks $10 billion in damages and is just the latest litigation that Trump has filed against a media entity that broadcasts or publishes content he doesn’t like.
The lawsuit claims that the network violated Texas’ Deceptive Trade Practices Act, which generally is aimed at false advertising.
Trump has been fixated on 60 Minutes and has threatened to sue CBS ever since it aired an interview with Harris as part of its election special on October 7. Trump initially agreed to sit down for an interview for the special, but then backed out, according to the network.

Updated with latest schedule: Kamala Harris and Donald Trump are making their closing messages to voters this week, which will be ever apparent in swing states, where commercial time is filled with political spots.
The travel schedule of the final week of a campaign typically offers a glimpse at where a candidate wants to share up support, but the race has been so tight this cycle that Trump and Harris have been dropping in to all seven key swing states. Campaigns are studying where people have already voted, with a number of states setting turnout records. In North Carolina and Georgia, for instance, about 1/3 of the voting age population has already cast ballots, according to the University of Florida Election Lab.
Here’s the latest on where to find Trump and Harris in the coming week. Some details Tba.

Fox News host Bret Baier has admitted the wrong clip with Donald Trump talking about his “the enemy from within” claims rolled during his exclusive Special Report interview with Kamala Harris, which prompted a stern rebuke from the U.S. Vice President.
Talking on Thursday with Fox News panelists Harris Faulkner and Harold Ford Jr. during his weeknight newscast, Baier said: “Harold, I did make a mistake, and I want to say I did make a mistake. When I called for a soundbite, I was expecting a piece of the ‘enemy from within’ from Maria Bartiromo’s interview, to be tied to the piece from your town hall, Harris, where you ask the former president about the enemy from within. It just had the piece about the town hall.”

Fox News’ Bret Baier said that a wrong clip was run during a key moment of his interview with Kamala Harris on Wednesday night, which led to the vice president calling out the network for leaving out Donald Trump’s call to use the military against political opponents.
Baier said on Special Report this evening that he meant to use a clip from Trump’s interview with Fox News’ Maria Bartiromo on Sunday. In that clip, the former president talked of the “bigger problem” being “the enemy from within, not even the people that have come in and are destroying our country. We have some sick people, radical left lunatics. And it should be very easily handled by, if necessary, National Guard or really necessary by the military.”
Instead, what only ran was a clip of Trump at an earlier town hall with Harris Faulkner, where he was asked about his Bartiromo comments.

Fox News hosted Donald Trump for a town hall on Wednesday that was designed to focus on issues relevant to women. But Jimmy Kimmel saw the event as nothing more than "propaganda," topped only by the nickname Trump gave himself
Held in Georgia, the town hall audience was comprised entirely of women. The former president sat on stage with Fox News personality Harris Faulkner to answer questions and explain some of his policy positions.
However, the questions were far and few between. And while Kamla Harris sat for a combative interview on Fox later that night, Trump appeared to have one softball question after another tossed his way.
"This was like North Korea-level propaganda," Kimmel said in response to the town hall. "This was a handpicked audience of Trump-loving women in Georgia."
The comedian then called out Trump for sharing a "made-up" story about a woman who can only afford two apples instead of three.

Donald Trump once again attacked the “enemy from within” at a pre-taped Fox News town hall that aired this morning, as he called domestic political opponents a greater threat than even foreign adversaries.
Trump was asked about his remarks earlier in the week to Fox News’ Maria Bartiromo.
“We have two enemies. We have the outside enemy, and then we have the enemy from within. And the enemy from within, in my opinion, is more dangerous than China, Russia, and all those countries, because if you have a smart president, he can handle them.”
“The thing that is tougher to handle are these lunatics that we have inside, like Adam Schiff. I call him the enemy from within.”

Former President Donald Trump will do a Fox News town hall next week focused on issues impacting women, before an all-female audience, the network said.
The town hall will pre tape on October 15 and will air the next day, as part of Harris Faulkner’s 11 a.m. Et show. She will moderate. The event will be held at Reid Barn in Cumming, Ga.
Fox News said that Kamala Harris also has been offered a town hall “which had been extended to her campaign multiple times since she became a candidate for president.”
Harris has attacked Trump for declining to do another presidential debate. On Thursday, a CNN deadline passed for Trump to accept, and the network instead offered both candidates individual town halls. Harris accepted an October 23 event; Trump’s campaign has yet to do so.
Trump has said that it is “too late” to debate, given that early voting has started.

Update: Networks captured the harrowing scenes of explosions in the skies over Tel Aviv today, as Iran launched a missile attack on Israel.
Major news networks quickly switched to reporters in the region for ongoing coverage, while broadcast networks interrupted regular daytime programming for special reports.

“This attack appears to have been defeated and ineffective,” he told reporters.
He said, “Obviously, this is a significant escalation by Iran, a significant event, and it is equally significant that we were able to step up with Israel and create a situation in which no one was killed in this attack on Israel.”
Sullivan said that they do not know of any deaths in Israel, but they were tracking the reported death of a Palestinian in Jericho in the West Bank.

Saturday Night Live’s landmark 50th season will kick off nearly over a month ahead of the 2024 presidential election with plenty of material for its cold opens and other political skits.
With Maya Rudolph returning to portray Democratic presidential candidate Vice President Kamala Harris, its likely that James Austin Johnson will portray Donald Trump and or Joe Biden in parodies of the candidates. Doug Emhoff (who has been portrayed in the past by Martin Short) and Vice President Tim Walz will also likely receive parodies, though Short’s Only Murders in the Building costar Steve Martin has declined the ask to portray Walz.
The first five consecutive SNL shows’ hosts and musical guests have been announced, and given the volume and talent of cast members over the years, a look back at political parodies by hosts, guests and members of the comedy ensemble can be found below.

Former Ohio University journalism professor Justice B. Hill has proudly been a card-carrying member of the National Association of Black Journalists (Nabj) for nearly five decades. But this week, Hill echoed similar thoughts of many journalists who converged on the first day of the 2024 Nabj Convention and Career Fair in Chicago. As they heard the organization would be interviewing former President Donald Trump, Hill felt a sense of bewilderment and betrayal by his organization.
“It’s a mess,” Hill told The Hollywood Reporter. “The whole thing came together in the past couple of days. And I hate things being not transparent. There’s controversy among members — one of the co-chairs of the Chicago convention [Karen Attiah, a columnist for The Washington Post] resigned. You don’t surprise members this way. He has never spoken at our convention before. He was invited in 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020, and he refused to come. So, why is he coming now?...

Updated: Donald Trump lit a firestorm from comments he made at a combative appearance before the National Association of Black Journalists, as he questioned whether his Democratic rival Kamala Harris was really Black.
“I’ve known her for a long time indirectly, directly, very much,” Trump said. “And she was always of Indian heritage and she was promoting Indian heritage. I didn’t know she was Black until a number of years ago when she happened to turn Black, and now she wants to be known as Black. So I don’t know, is she Indian, or is she Black?”
His comments quickly drew condemnation, including from White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, who called them “repulsive.” But he doubled down on them in a later posting on Truth Social, writing that “Crazy Kamala is saying she’s Indian, not Black. This is a big deal. Stone cold phony. She uses everybody,...

President Donald Trump went on the attack while appearing onstage at the National Association of Black Journalists convention in Chicago in a contentious appearance that quickly went off the rails and saw the candidate repeating lies about his past policy toward Black communities and questioning Vice President Kamala Harris’ identity as a Black woman.
“She was always of Indian heritage, and she was only promoting Indian heritage,” Trump said from the stage at the Chicago Hilton. “I didn’t know she was Black until a number of years ago, when she happened to turn Black, and now she wants to be known as Black. So I don’t know, is she Indian or is she Black?

Former President Donald Trump’s appearance before the National Association of Black Journalists generated controversy as soon as it was announced — and went off the rails just as quickly once it started.
Trump was more than an hour late to the Q&a alongside ABC News congressional correspondent Rachel Scott, Fox News anchor Harris Faulkner, and Semafor political reporter Kadia Goba. According to HuffPost, the delay was caused — at least in part — by a backstage “standoff” between Trump and Nabj organizers over the use of live fact-checking during the panel.

On Wednesday, former President Donald Trump participated in a Q&a session at the National Association of Black Journalists (Nabj) Annual Convention and Career Fair in Chicago. During the speech, he continued to make racist comments and mispronounce the name of his Democratic opponent in a very contentious panel.
Rachel Scott, senior congressional correspondent for ABC News; Harris Faulkner, anchor for Fox News; and Kadia Goba, political reporter at Semafor, moderated the discussion.
Trump received a lukewarm reception with sparse applause and audible boos from attendees. The event, scheduled at noon, started nearly 15 minutes late.
Scott opened the discussion by asking Trump about his controversial and false statements, such as Obama and former GOP rival Nikki Haley not being born in the U.S., among others: “Why should Black voters trust you after you used language like that?”

Updated: The president of the National Association of Black Journalists is defending its decision to invite Donald Trump to appear at a Q&a session on Wednesday, as some members decried the move given the former president’s conduct.
Trump is scheduled to appear at a session at the association’s Chicago convention with ABC News’ Rachel Scott, Fox News’ Harris Faulkner and Semafor’s Kadia Goba as moderators.
“While Nabj does not endorse political candidates as a journalism organization, we understand the serious work of our members, and welcome the opportunity for them to ask the tough questions that will provide the truthful answers Black Americans want and need to know,” Ken Lemon, the president of Nabj, said in a statement posted on X/Twitter.
He said that Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris were invited to appear, in keeping with a tradition of inviting candidates of both major parties each presidential cycle.

Donald Trump is set to take part in a Q&a with Black political journalists as part of the 2024 National Association of Black Journalists Convention and Career Fair in Chicago. The news has created a furious backlash on social media, with a number of prominent Black journalists decrying the move.

The major TV news outlets are planning special coverage on Sunday, following a shooting at one of former President Donald Trump’s rallies that left the presumptive Republican nominee wounded but Ok.
The former president’s campaign said Trump was “fine” after being rushed off the stage in Butler, Pennsylvania, when gunfire erupted. Trump posted that he was hit in the upper part of his right ear. The shooting is being investigated as an attempted assassination on Trump, law enforcement officials told the Associated Press. Updated with Potus statement: Hunter Biden, the son of President Joe Biden, was found guilty Tuesday of three felony counts related to the purchase of a gun in 2018.
A jury in Wilmington, De, rendered its verdict after three hours of deliberations. The verdict was covered across all major news networks, although news cameras were not allowed in the courtroom. Broadcast networks also broke into programming for special reports.
Biden faces up to 25 years in prison and a fine of up to $750,000. His sentence is likely to be much less than that given he is a first-time offender.
Biden’s trial was the latest criminal proceeding that has infused the 2024 presidential race. It started just days after a New York state jury convicted former President Donald Trump of 34 felonies. “The gatekeepers are gone,” Colin Jost told a roomful of journalists at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner on April 27, before pivoting to the punchline: “Did you know that 90 percent of people now get their news exclusively from social media? And that must be true because I saw it in a random guy’s TikTok.”
For those (ever fewer) media gatekeepers who have major reach, trust is currency. And there’s still a halo effect for those TV stars with broadest viewership — i.e., network TV hosts — particularly evening and morning show anchors for NBC and ABC, a new THR/Morning Consult poll shows. The survey, conducted May 4-5 among a sample of 2,239 U.S. adults, asked opinions about 40-plus major TV news stars, as well as surveyed trends about America’s fractured media diet during a presidential campaign year.

The three major news networks all carried Donald Trump’s remarks reacting to the Supreme Court’s unanimous decision Monday that states cannot deny him access to the ballot.
In doing do, Trump was given a platform to blast prosecutors and judges in other cases, and to make unfounded claims that President Joe Biden has been engaging in a “weaponization” of the Justice Department.
“President Biden, number one, stop weaponization. Fight your fight yourself. Don’t use prosecutors and judges to go after your opponent so you can win an election,” Trump said in his remarks from Mar-a-Lago.
Trump used the occasion to also argue that he should be immune from prosecution in the January 6th federal conspiracy case, something the Supreme Court will consider next month. But he also suggested that Biden orchestrated his legal woes, even at the state level.
Fox News, CNN and MSNBC carried the remarks live.

Republicans are trying to spin the Biden impeachment inquiry forward after an hours-long deposition with his son Hunter Biden on Wednesday. It’s proving difficult, as the closed-door hearing doesn’t seem to have yielded many revelatory details.
Some Republicans are even conceding that Biden performed well under questioning. “I think when the transcript comes out, it’s gonna read well for him, because they did a great job prepping,” Rep. Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.) told Fox News host Harris Faulkner Thursday.

Fox News host Kayleigh McEnany took an obtuse approach Wednesday to covering Donald Trump’s win in the New Hampshire primary — and the lies he told in his victory speech — focusing instead on how other news networks covered the comments.

Nikki Haley said last week that New Hampshire voters would have an opportunity to “correct” the results of the Iowa caucuses when they headed to the polls Tuesday. Whether they did depends on Haley’s definition of a course correction. Trump secured a solid — although not a total landslide — victory in the Granite State, further thinning the former South Carolina governor’s already-long odds of unseating the former president atop the Republican Party.

The internet broke over the all-but-confirmation that one Ms. Americana — Taylor Swift — and Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce are starting their very own love story. Swift was spotted enthusiastically cheering on Kelce from a private box at Arrowhead Stadium, in the company of Kelce’s mother, Donna. The pair were later spotted together in the stadium and drove off to dinner in Kelce’s own getaway car.

In her lawsuit (read it here), Jankowicz claimed that the network last year began a “malicious campaign of destruction” against her.
“Over the course of eight months in 2022, Fox talked about Jankowicz more than 300 times,” according to the lawsuit. “Across its broadcast and online publications, Fox’s employee hosts and commentators derided and lied about Jankowicz on repeat—and continue to do so even today.”
The New York Times first reported on Jankowicz’s suit.

On Monday morning Fox News crash landed into a new era of poisonous, right-wing propaganda production — one without their leading man Tucker Carlson. The network, which had long defended Carlson from all forms of backlash, announced in a statement that “Fox News Media and Tucker Carlson have agreed to part ways.”
But according to insiders, while the reasoning behind the decision remains unclear, the parting of ways was far from mutual. A report from the Wall Street Journal indicated that Carlson was informed of Fox’s decision just 10 minutes before...

Fox News and Tucker Carlson have parted ways. The rest of the network seems thrilled.
“Pure joy,” one Fox reporter told Rolling Stone of their reaction to the split. “No one is untouchable. It’s a great day for America, and for the real journalists who work hard every day to deliver the news at Fox.”
“It was a good move to part ways with Tucker,” added a producer. “He knowingly spread lies throughout his time at Fox, but I fear management will replace him with someone who is just...

Faulkner essentially read the network’s statement verbatim (see below), before delving right into a segment about a Washington state bill that would allow transgender medical procedures for minors without parental consent. Watch above.

In a shock announcement Monday, Fox News Media said that it would be parting ways with Tucker Carlson, the host of its 8 p.m. program Tucker Carlson Tonight. Carlson’s final show was on Friday.
“Fox News Media and Tucker Carlson have agreed to part ways. We thank him for his service to the network as a host and prior to that as a contributor,” the company said in a statement.
Fox says a rotating slate of guest hosts will fill in at 8 p.m. on a show now called Fox News Tonight until a replacement is found.
The decision to split with Carlson is a surprising one, with Carlson’s program routinely ranking as the most watched on Fox News and on some days all of cable TV. Carlson and Fox’s afternoon panel show The Five had been trading off the ratings crown in recent months.
